There will never be another Cliff. But Jason was a excellent replacement. Creeping Death was the greatest live song ever when Jason’s was playing/singing it. Newsted deserved better.

Robert is great and the best replacement for Jason. Jason....man oh man, he was the heart that brought the soul together for Metallica. He deserved better. He's like Dave Grohl, he's got talent to play multiple instruments and a singing voice.

I know Jason of course had enough energy to power 3 nuclear plants, but I do wish he got more credit as a bass player, sure not as good as Cliff, but he made some very badass and beautiful sounding pieces like my friend of misery and his tone was meaty as hell…Justice for Jason

There's a man with integrity and total commitment to music. Metallica was never the same after he left. James's ego is a sad thing to see.

Jason had such an on stage presence . He added so much to even their earlier songs from their first three albums when you would hear them play live. Whether it’s him singing seek and destroy doing most of the vocal work there or his backing vocals on songs from ride the lightning, in master of puppets, or just the way he played every Koncer like it could possibly be the last time he’s ever on stage. He would get everybody hyped.

For me, Jason will forever be Metallica’s bassist. Cliff has the legacy that was Cliff. Rob gets the privilege to play along.

He was so underrated, I think he was the first and best fan MetallicA ever had, and the albums recorded while he was a band member sounded great (except for ...And justice for all, of course, because his bass was muted)

For many Metallica was over after Black Album, for me when Jason left the band.

Jason doesn’t get enough notoriety honestly. He did a lot for metal.

There are only a few people in the history of Rock that filled the shoes left behind after an original member passed away. Jason Newstead, Brian Johnson and Johnny Van Zant deserve special recognition in what is the most difficult position in music.

My nephew & I were in THIS VIDEO, Jason's last performance as a member in FTB in 2000, LA, Shrine Auditorium Parking Lot for the VH1 Awards. All those 50 or so people around the parking lot were all MetClub members. I met Sebastian Bach that day, he was there! My nephew & I were "first in line" watching the Road Crew set up like in the middle of the day. The James' legendary good luck Marshall amp was there, a few feet away from me. Other MetClub members came from FAR, one dude literally flew in from Texas. My nephew & I had red devil horns on our heads. BEFORE the show, the ONLY MetallicA members that came out to meet & greet was JASON! Got his autograph, my nephew got pics from the Road Crew. They sat him down ON TOP OF THE ORANGE MUSCLE CAR. Before FTB, MetallicA warmed up with So What! [not televised, obviously]. When Lars came out he was smoking a cigarette, the first time I saw him smoking, so the cover of Garage, Inc of him smoking was not a "staged" photo, he actually smoked (not sure if he still does). I wish this video you made also had Jason singing full lead during the Summer Sanitarium Tour 2000. I also wish this video had Jason singing in Whiplash! I also wish this video had Jason playing guitar on Am I Evil?

One of Jason's last metallica songs is " I disappear " and his last performance is "fade to black"..... kinda foreshadowing and sad because after cliff died cliff was the only bass player metallica wanted and jason was the bass player they didnt want at the time but he was the bass player they needed to keep them as a band alive.

I can’t even imagine trying to fill the shoes of someone so great, let alone in the worlds most important band, and not having him to at least talk to about what he was doing or what he played. It took real courage to do what Jason did, even after the way they treated him and took out their pain on him, he was respectful with the way he handled things to the end, even when the rest of the band, James especially, was being unreasonable. Going through all of that, and then having the people you look up to the most becoming the people that hurt you. He may not be in Metallica anymore, but he left his mark on them and changed who they were forever, laying the foundation of who they are and how they operate now. Thank you Jason.

In hindsight, Jason was one of only a few that could have stepped into the role of bass guitar for Metallica. He is the ONLY one that could have helped Metallica take that next step from a rising star to a DOMINATING force in Heavy metal and the world of rock at large.

Aside from a few select songs beforehand, all my favorites were when Jason played. He was so good for the band. No disrespect to others, but he was my favorite. Definitely metal. And he had some pipes too.
