Some tips for the knotted bracelets (Two-Sided Wrap, Harry Potter, and Spiral) 1. For the knots, think of a 4. Using the thread you want to make the knot with (KT) make a four over the other thread in the pair (BT) Btw, I'm making there a abbreviations up. They aren't official terms of anything. Ok, so you make a 4 with the KT over the BT. Then you pass the tail of the KT around the BT and into the triangle part of the 4. Make the KT into a four shape again, but now it's looped around the BT. Then pull up and away with the KT to tighten. Generally, you do that twice per knot, though the first bracelet is a bit of an exception. 2. Water Bottles and Duct Tape. My favorite way to hold the bracelet in place. Duct tape the bracelet to the waterbottle, plop it down on a table and get going. If there's water in the bottle, it won't slide around very much while you're making knots. Also convenient to carry around. 3. If you don't like Water bottles and Duct tape, use a safety pin. Put the pin through the beginning knot and then attach to your pant leg, or a couch or something. Careful not to like yourself. 4. When possible, rather than doing all separate strands do one longer strand folded in half. For example, for the Gryffindor HP bracelet do 3 long reds and 1 long yellow, folded in half for 8 strings. Make a knot after the fold, then make your bracelet. 5. I'm terms of string length, an easy go to is your armspan, then folded in half.(Refer to 4) For the bracelets with only 3 or 4 strings, they can be a good bit shorter. The wider the bracelet is, the longer the strings need to be. 6. Rather than leaving the thread loose at the end, braid it as long as you can, then tie a knot. That will make tie ing the bracelet a lot easier. I usually braid for a bit at the beginning of the bracelet as well, but most people don't. 7. The spiral bracelet, often called the Chinese staircase, is a good starter bracelet. 8. There are hundreds of patterns for similar bracelets that all use the same 4 knots. If you enjoy making them, research and experiment, the possibilities are endless.

How to Gryffindor: eight strings two yellow (look at vid for placement) make pairs of two tie them all in a knot twice then take away the first string and last one then tie the remaining ones in pairs of two then repeat Hope this helped!

We made lanyards back in summer camp 35 years ago using the same techniques as the 2nd & 7th bracelet only instead of ribbon we had rolls of this thin plastic stuff.

for the ppl that dont understand the first one its pretty much a basic fishtale braid. take one piece from the far left side then put it beside the front right piece. next, take on piece from the far right and place it beside the front left. repeat until u get the length u want. :)
