The Blue Mosque in Turkey Istanbul is now becoming much more modern day by day however, it does not lose its uniqueness. In the historical center of the city is the Sultanahmet Mosque, better known as the Blue Mosque. It is a symbol not only of Istanbul, but of the whole Turkey. This is a truly unique building that has great architectural value. It was built by order of the Turkish Sultan Ahmed the 1st, therefore the mosque was named after him. Work began in 1609, and was completed only seven years later. The architecture of the building combines classic Ottoman and Byzantine styles. In the construction was used precious breeds of stone and unique marble. And the floor is covered with handmade carpets. The mosque has six minarets and at the same time holds 10,000 believers.
