Hello...lets talk about the 10 things that allow you and me to live a happy more meaningful life! I talk about 10 things I can't live without...things like seeing beauty in everything...love and memories...and being brave enough to commit 100% of ourselves to a passion. I also may solve a mystery for you after all these years why I film in department stores so much. I also ask you...what do you do to live a happier more peaceful, less stressful life? If you have time, please tell us in the comments.
I am 65 and this has been a hard year for everybody....so I thought the timing for us to talk about happiness was perfect. I shout out the great woman who tagged me to do this challenge, Jennifer Loves. I also take you to an engagement party at the river here in my town where a cellist was playing soulful songs....I sat on the dock and thought about my life for a good long time...and I thought of all of you who teach me to persevere and thrive...because after all, we have our life to run so we can change the world!
Thank you for your loving words and kindness each week and thank you for your prayers for Bill.
I think about you all and I know these days are very hard on us. Please keep safe and know that you always have a place where you can share, laugh, and love.
My love to you always and always,
Susan & Desi

Susan, my Mom raised me as a single woman. My Daddy and her divorced when I was just 8 years old. She worked a full-time job, plus she worked on weekends at the mall. I was in 9th grade and she used her discount to buy my fall wardrobe that year. It was all beautiful Bobbie Brooks skirts and sweaters that matched. I was so proud of those clothes. I was use to homemade dresses, but not Bobbie Brooks. I'll never forget that feeling!

Goodness, Anita....I can't remember the last time I thought of 'Bobby Brooks' clothes for school....the outfits were so cute and stylish...my mom also worked in retail....she was the 'revlon girl' at sears....and she always looked so beautiful....she seriously looked like Elizabeth Taylor, only prettier! We are so lucky to have beautiful, wonderful mothers....my heart just melted when Susan spoke of her mom on the verge of tears.....exactly what I feel when I think of my beautiful (in every way) MOTHER....thank you for the Bobby Brown reminder! One thing that brings me happiness is helping someone who needs it. I have a man helping me with some tasks at home. He doesn’t have much, so as I clean out things I don’t need, I offer them to him (he is young and has very little), and it is so joyful to know he really needs them. I even decided I didn’t need as many towels as I had and gave him some of my newer ones. I also find happiness letting a car pull out into traffic ahead of me. So many people are so competitive about one car length that it makes me shake my head.

Rescues are the best companions. Willow my deerface chihuahua gives me a reason to be. She was confiscated from a drug house- -and over bred in a puppy mill. She was taken to a high kill shelter in W. Virginia, but rescued for the first time by Puppy Pals rescue in Ohio. Willow is such a darling loyal companion and has graciously accepted 2 hens who come inside our house at night. She also joined the flock with our quaker parrot. Oh Susan, I can relate to wanting to be near someone you loved especially when feeling lonely. That sort of thing happens more than we think it does especially to children. When I was a young grade school kid I was the only one from our block bused to a school further away from my home. The other kids in the neighbor hood got to go to the same school so they had each other. Having no familiar friends there I did meet this one young girl that always sat alone her name was Linda. I asked her why she did not play on the swing or play ball and all she would do was shake her head no gently. One day after playing I went to get a drink of water at the water fountain and I asked Linda why she sat near the bus gate in the morning recess and in the afternoon recess on the opposite side? Linda said that during the morning recess she could see her daddy driving in the empty school buses and that she wanted to be near him even if from far away and she looked sad. Being a child myself, I asked why did she sit on the other side in the afternoon? and she said she would wait to see the buses coming down the hill and for a moment could get a glimpse of her daddy when he turned the big bus around nearby where she sat. Linda did this all through the year and one afternoon as summer break would close the school I waved goodbye to Linda but she looked different more tanned than her usual self being a light complected girl. One of the other girls asked her why she was wearing blue lipstick? but then the teacher approached us to move us right along to board the buses. (The blue lipstick stayed on my mind.) It wasn't until sometime during the summer our church had announced a funeral would take place for Linda. Linda, had been suffering heart failure and passed away quietly with family at her side as it read in the church bulletin. I believe God sent me to that school to meet Linda to be friends with her here on Earth. As a child I often remembered her Twiggy hairstyle and halter dresses and would think that maybe she liked that space in time and she decided to stay. Seeing death is not the same when your a child especially when not aware of why or how it happened and that acts as a built in shock absorb-er in some way. At that time I was just focused on Linda's desperate need to be near her daddy to feel his love; and I could relate to that feeling. Thank you Susan, your such a loving person and I really like to see pictures of your youth. God bless you and Desi.

I am 65 and I want to briefly explain why I think it is. I finished my master's in psychology in 2019. I did my internship in Santa Barbara, Ca., and I chose to work with seniors. Every single senior I visited at home--rarely, if ever, left home. But why? The beach was nearby, the city transported seniors for free and cafes offered lunch off-tourist-season to seniors for a few dollars. It was my duty to have a nurse from social services perform a physical on these clients. Most had malnutrition and major depressive disorder. Many stated they had given up on themselves. ("What use am I?") Never give up on yourself....it's easy to do as a senior person...and very easy to do as a woman. This channel is a good example of the joy and charisma you cultivate if you simply continue on a healthy, loving path. This channel inspires me so much!

Something I've always kept in mind since I heard it from a respected psychologist I did some work with years ago is "Your opinion of me is none of my business". What goes on in other peoples' heads has no bearing on my life. Their thoughts about me are theirs, not mine. Bearing this in mind shields you from being hurt by gossip and other's opinions. As you get older, you care less and less what other's think and this leads to a much happier life indeed. Your videos are so inspiring.

I’m so glad UKposts recommended your channel to me. You and Desi are so inspiring. I always take away something helpful from your videos. I’m 58 years old and have gained 60 pounds over the years. I’ve tried so many different weight loss plans, but never really put forth any effort. I’ve literally spent thousands of dollars on books and diet plans. I just signed up for a one year membership to Noom, and I’m going to take your advice to give it 100%. I’ll never find out if it works otherwise. Thanks for adding sunshine to my day! Hugs to you and sweet Desi. 💝🐶 p.s Loving your song Open Road (I found it on iTunes)!

Lovely, lovely video. My one thing is my 64 years and being in this stage of life. The bad stuff--- Hey I survived it! The good stuff is a beautiful memory so much to look back on. My mom will be 89 this September. Instead of being a grumpy old lady she lives each day even more, interested in everything and full of joy and fun. She is truly grateful and that makes her wonderful to be around. And when death separates us that will always be her gift to me as your moms love gifted you-- that no one can take away .

As a retired English teacher, To Kill a Mockingbird has always been one of my favorite novels and movies. I have read it so many times, I nearly know it by heart. Thank you! I'm 62 next month and I had just stopped? Stopped being the girly girl I always have been. Stopped making my home special. Stopped using creams and gels and all the wonderful beauty products that I love. I guess I had to make a tough decision and let go of a 17 year marriage because his decisions were...so bad. It was destroying......litterly our lives and future. And so I sat here for months and months. Oh thank you so very much. I'm in tears just thinking about it. I donated all the memory stuff that was old and sad, and got some things that make me happy!! I ordered some Rose hip seed oil! I am getting carrot and some of the others next! I got a few little outfits. Oh, I feel like a new woman. I am loving my life. No regrets. I thank you for helping me remember who I am. I DO have a lot to offer and I DO have a lot more to give. I am the most grateful person on your list. I have to be. 💜Thank you friend

I love watching your videos. They give me hope that life can get better for me. Since I become disable, life has changed so much. Friends eventually stop coming by to see me. I've never really fit in with family. This month a year ago, my mother past away. She was really the only one that truly even knew who I am. I've lost my best friend forever. I know she would want me to do my best and take care of myself. The one huge thing that would bring happiness back into my life, besides my children and grandchildren is to find myself again. Since I became disable, I've gotten lost in all the pain, hurt from losing friends, losing my life as I once knew it. I'll stop rambling for now. I hope to become great friends with you and Desi. I promise not to bother you too much. Oh and another thing that makes me happy is listening to you sing. You sing with so much passion. I just love it.

I just watched this. It is artistry, creativity, and love shared so beautifully. When i was a little girl, my mom worked a lot and many times i was left at my grandma’s farm. She would host a quilting club and she would always serve pie. I remember sitting underneath the quilting rack/ table watching the ladies shoes, listening to the conversations, and eating my pie. As an adult, i heard a beautiful sermon about the love of Christ and how he filters our life through his crucified hands molding and making us who we are. When you look at quilting pieces, there are many that you wouldn’t choose if you were making a dress, but the juxtaposition of using the dark/ sadder fabrics along with the beautiful florals or bright colors…. Makes everything pop just the way it should and become a thing of beauty. This is how Jesus works in our lives… the sad and harder things compliment the beautiful things and they all become the great story of our lives… drawing others to Christ not only because of stories of beauty, but also of pain.

Bonnie? Find comfort in knowing you're not alone. I, also, used to FOCUS on all the "happy couples" and "happy families" in Church. Now? I embrace my singlehood by understanding that if it is God's plan that we are alone? then so be it. Try making friends with widows and widowers. That's what I do and it makes "being single" not so bad (especially with the holidays coming up you have to find ways not to feel so "alone").

@@bonniel4325 I ask myself why God "allows" suffering also and the best way I have heard it explained is by Pastor T.D. Jake's when he says that "the battle is not ours". In other words, Good exists on our planet but Evil also exists and that is why we all have to put our trust and faith in God that he will eventually win this war over all Evil forces in this world. In the meantime? We all have to do our part by being good people and helping others who are suffering as much as we possibly can.

But I know other people have suffered much more. People are tortured in war torn countries. Starving to death in famines. Children being horribly abused. I know. It's just the effing human condition.

GREETINGS, I CAN RELATE TO YOU, I FEEL THE SAME WAY, BUT TRY NOT TO IDENTIFY W/ THE NEGATIVE. THE THING IS THAT GOD- THE GREAT SPIRIT, OUR CREATOR DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO W/ WHAT GOES ON IN THE WORLD. HE GAVE US FREE WILL. SO WE SEPARATED FROM HIM AND CREATED THIS IMPERFECT WORLD WHERE WE DO WHATEVER WE WANT. AND YES WE KEEP COMING BACK TO TRY TO DO IT BETTER AND WORK OUR PAST KARMA. SO WE NEED TO DO OUR BEST TO LOVE OURSELVES & OTHERS, FORGIVE OURSELVES AND OTHERS WITHOUT REGRETS, AND SPREAD THE LOVE. IT TAKES US CLOSER TO GOD... WHICH BY THE WAY WE CAN FIND HIM INSIDE OF US AND WE CAN CONNECT W/ HIM/HER EVERYWHERE WE GO. NATURE IS THE BEST PLACE TO CONNECT, WE DON'T NEED TO GO TO CHURCH, DOING GOOD FOR OTHERS IS ALSO A WAY TO CONNECT W/ THE GREAT SPIRIT. DEALING W/ THE IMPERFECTION OF THIS WORLD CREATED BY IMPERFECT BEINGS -US- IS A BIG LESSON, TOUGH, BUT WE CAN DO IT. JUST DO THE BEST WE CAN. GOD ONLY CREATES PERFECTION- SPIRIT. SO HERE WE NEED TO STRIVE FOR PERFECTION THE BEST WE CAN. GOD DOESN'T DESTROY & DOESN'T PUNISH, WE'RE THE ONES THAT CREATE CHAOS. IT'S VERY HUMAN TO WANT TO APPLY HUMAN TRAITS & CHARACTERISTICS TO A PERFECT SPIRITUAL BEING- THE GREAT SPIRIT- JUST TO BLAME IT/HIM/HER. WE WERE BRAINWASHED TO DO THAT. BUT WE CAN TRANSCEND IT AND OVERCOME OUR IMPERFECTIONS SO WE CAN GET CLOSER TO THE CREATOR OF OUR SPIRIT. PEACE, LOVE & BLESSINGS✌💖🌺

Hi Susan, lovely video. Again , thankyou for sharing your feelings and stories. . I like your little story about you going to visit your mom at work and her letting you use the credit card to buy clothing or something you wanted,, such an awesome memory. When I was little we had a little corner store right on our street. my mom would give me some money and tell me I could go up and get chocolate cupcakes from tasty cake for me and my brother and that was like a big treat. It didn't happen often. I feel as I'm getting older staying away from negative and toxic people is bringing me much happiness. During this virus stay at home and being in, I have learned more about being comfortable with myself , being alone. And it does keep your stress level down when you're not around a bunch of negativity and drama. .Have a great weekend Susan.

The one quote that keeps me going and words to live by are: "Where there's a Will, there's a Way." My other all time favorite is and there are many versions of it is: "My favorite thing In life, is Doing what others say I cannot do." I live by those words. Yep I am stubborn. The most wonderful thing happened the day before last. A band set up in the parking lot of a Burger King across from my apartment and my window was open wide for the evening summer breeze. They set up and proceeded to play a summer concert of southern rock. Summer music. A combination of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Grateful Dead, Bad Company, Pink Floyd, Lynard Skynard, Neil Young, Creedence Clearwater etc. They played it loud and proud and were fantastic! Not only did I have a front row seat in my bedroom not far from my window and a perfect view with like the music was right in my room with me, but traffic had stopped on the street and pulled over. People at the Burger King came out and sat on their cars everyone stayed in the social distance without any issue or argument. Masks were worn with no complaints. All of us together in our own little spot, enjoying the moment of good music and summer. The soft warm breeze through our hair. Singing and couples in each others arms or the girlfriend on her boyfriends shoulders, eating summer food and drinking cold drinks and the band played and played well into the evening and after dark, giving all of us a moment in time. A moment of normalcy of fun and love. Of a favorite past time and right of passage every summer of something we all love and enjoy. We remembered what it was like and for that one evening? There was no pandemic, there was no fear or stress. No being at the end of the rope. No, there was peace and happiness. Love and friendships, real summer and great music with great memories. When they were done, they quietly packed up and went on their way without a word and everyone else also went on their way. I pulled my blinds leaving the window open for the breeze to come through them. No explanation was needed and no reason needed too be spoken. Cars resumed their daily ritual. But what changed was it was quieter and peaceful. A collective sigh. A moment that was shared in unity for an unspoken moment and reason. A moment we enjoyed together as one people with no division. No arguments and no complaints. The masks were worn and social distance was honored without one single complaint. That night I recovered from Covid 19. Not one single symptom and fever completely gone, out of the blue. I give thanks for that evening and find myself humbled into silence. For something truly magical happened. We shared in collective grief for lives lost, those that are and were sick. We gave thanks and enjoyed together what was given to us that night. We are and were the example of how it is suppose too be of what can be, by coming together as one for the common good of humanity. We set the example that night. If we were able too do that without even thinking about it.. Think how it could be if all of us came together like that. In support of one another. Without a word. Just let it happen. Easy and free. Calm and relaxed. A sigh that would be heard around the world.

Crafty Angells..... Wow, I mean like wow! Where on this magical planet of love do you live? It's like a fairy tale what you described. Even your covit symptoms went away. And the way you described every single detail.... I felt like I was there, you know? What a wonderful story of happiness for us all!😀

I love your channel. One thing I love seeing is, in the early morning, the sun is coming through the window and it has the leaves on the tree blowing in the breeze. I'm so glad I can always come to your channel and it always makes me feel warm and I always smile.

Desi is a star of his own. With you by his side he is one happy and content guy. Happiness comes in many forms, just as love does. We may have love but not allot us have the kind of love we need. We do the best we kind, we find ways to bring happiness and love to ourselves. It doesn't always work but we keep trying, trying to find what makes us happy. We find happiness in the strangest places, just like love. .................

Hello beautiful Susan & Desi. Thank you for making this video also sharing your walk in the park before the pandemic. I took so much for granted like being around people, total strangers, laughing and smiling. This too will pass though we don't know when. I choose to stay apart for my safety but it helps others too. So, watching the world through videos adds smiles to mine. Fur babies are angels in our lives, true gifts to care for. You are an amazing example of kindness and giving love. The light stands out in the darkness that's so evident out there right now. I am grateful for my life that through loss I see the blessings of God even more. Everyday is a new opportunity to be kind, forgive and shine a little light. Blessings to all of you.
