Tip: use campfires, they're cheap, cost no fuel, and can cook 4 pieces of food at once Edit: technically the coal/charcoal is used as a part of the crafting recipe and not as fuel, so yea

Tip: Wet sponges insta-dry in the nether without any fuel. Just place it down on the ground.

Another tip: if you put a sponge in a furnace with an empty bucket as your fuel source you get a dry sponge and a full water bucket

Fun fact I've learned from a few UKpostsrs (mostly hermit craft, Kier &Dev, Boosfer and the rest of their gang) that if you put sponges in the Nether they dry as soon as you put them down
