@@sirromeoj the auto steering feature is an effect of the angle of the pivot in relation to the direction of travel. I seemed to have unknowingly trained for this most of my life. I used to ride a lot of MTB street and would ride everywhere backwards, my nickname was "Backwards Ben" 🤣 There are a few key tricks to riding backwards. 1 - Don't look down at your front wheel, look at the horizon. 2 - Make micro-adjustments to your steering, big sweeping turns are difficult to recover from. 3 - Speed is your friend, it's much easier to control with a bit of pace. 4 - Practice, a lot of it!
@CartoonWeasel
@CartoonWeasel 11 місяців тому
This is different. I did the same with my bikes, HOWEVER, the bike itself would still go forward, keeping the steering forward. In this way its going backwards, putting the steering at the rear. A rear steering changes everything.
@888records
@888records 11 місяців тому
This is not the same though. That bike is made in a way to be able to bike backwards properly. This one isn’t so it immediately loses balance but I do think that looking in front of you would be better for this bike too but very scary
@bobbobert9379
@bobbobert9379 10 місяців тому
1:00 expanding on the positive vs negative feedback: a bike rolling forwards has negatice feedback because the contact point of the front wheel is behind the turning axis of the handlebars. This means that when the wheel is turned, not only does the bike lean into the turn, the frictional forces impart a torque on the turning axis in the opposite direction of the turn, pushing the wheel back to center. When rolling in reverse, the contact point is now in front and the torque is in the same direction as the turn, causing the wheel to turn more in the same direction rather than self stabalizing, making any small misalignment compound on itself.

This video and the last felt very fluid, more so than some of the earlier videos. Some before felt a little bit corporate, like very strictly scripted and stuff, and I like the more personal feel in these videos! In the same video on James taking a break, they mentioned how they began to feel less personal and more like a company. This video makes it feel like some changes are taking place, and it was very fun to watch! It looked like everyone involved had a lot of fun making it! I really hope this continues, and both James and the rest of the team can continue doing what they love without it becoming a burden.💜

I'm injured at the moment but one of my 4 bikes is my fakie bike . Since I live in a flat area I flipped the sprocket and coaster brake so it pedals backwards . The pedaling forwards and going fakie is a huge challenge. If it pedaled backwards it would be easier to ride . When I'm on my flatland bike I instinctively pedal backwards as it doesn't have a free coaster . The snake pattern is key . I know people who fakie fast and I don't know how they do it . I fakie slow and they don't know how I do it . If you configure it to pedal backwards you can learn to ride it and will succeed .

as a mountainbiker that knows how to ride backwards (without the ability to pedal but nontheless) i have a couple of tips to do it better: 1: Resist the automatic thing where you start bending over the bars and try to rather sit more upright as you normally would when going forward. 2: Generally try to steer as little as possible as steering will acumulate more and more when you arent used to riding backward and will lead you to fall after seconds.

1:50 the stability that the bike has going forward is because of the "caster angle". If its positive, like in a bike, it self-stabilices the wheel. If its negative, like in a shopping cart, it makes it wanna flop around. The extreme version of this would be... The Citröen 2cv! The strange suspension of that car has a caster angle of almost 90°!. So when its going backwards, its surprisingly easy to flip over the whole car if you're not careful! ... Don't ask me how i know ...

You can see it in most trying, once they go straight it goes well, but once they start to balance they are on the floor. Others said it: sit on it backwards.. I think it's the best chance for your brain to react with steering.. You just need to practice all the other hard things, but those seem to be just repetition and not reaction from your brain

I would be curious to see a BMX rider on this thing. One that can ride backwards of course.

If you were to make the back wheel the wheel that turns and extended the handle bars from the back to the front the i think itd be easier to right since itd be more like youre riding a regular bike, but you are backwards instead of the bike.

I think it mainly has to do with the caster angle of the wheels

Turn the seat around and put handle bars on back hooked up to front ones then ride that way then it would work better ... Just make sure you make it turns the right way as you turn the bar ..

this can be a great prank for unsuspecting bike thieves if they are the type they would ride the bike out of the crime scene hehehe

They'd just give up the moment it only goes backwards. The inverted steering gag is better for those. Then they would at least try a few times before figuring out it just not worth it. More fun that just seeing a guy ditch it immediately.

So would putting the backwards steering, the tire turns to the right when you steer left, on this make it harder or easier.

I'm wondering, would reversing the steering make it easier, or even harder to ride this backwards bike
@oduinn7948
@oduinn7948 Рік тому
Harder more than likely, but definitely not easier. Directional steering isn't the problem here, it's stability. Unless you're saying having the steering effect the rear wheel instead of the conventional wheel, in that case.... Maybe?

My first thought was to just turn it around and coast to the line. Surprised nobody did it sooner

You should engineer a cool way to make the bike readable. Like a huge flywheel on the bike that makes it hard to fall over.

A little bit of drag on the front brake once you get some speed (just a tiny bit, not enough to lock it up) would probably result in increased front wheel stability.
