*Who are we?*
We’re Victoria & Craig! In 2021, we decided that we needed to make life a little more exciting, so we bought a used fifth wheel and completely renovated it. Then, we sold our house in Tallahassee, Florida and hit the road full time in our RV! We’ve traveled all around the United States (and Baja Mexico!) and fell in love with boondocking in our RV at the most beautiful places. In 2023, we upgraded to a brand new Brinkley RV Model Z 3100. You’ll always find us on some kind of outdoor adventure, whether it’s hiking the Grand Canyon, rock climbing in Yosemite or surfing the shores of Baja Mexico. Pick up your animals poop! And if you poop either bury it 6 inches deep or more or pick it up! Another UKpostsr I follow, has a dog and ended up eating human poop, and that human had taken shrooms or something and it ended up affecting her dog and she was so scared😢

Rule #3 / #4 - I love my dogs off leash too, but after being in a bunch of pristine boondocking spots that were sadly covered in dog poop, I've started keeping mine on long leashes even if there aren't other dogs around. That way I can be 100% sure I've picked up EVERYTHING. Please pick up (which means you have to notice them pooping) - it ruins gorgeous places for the next visitors if you don't.

I adopted an 11 year old Jack Russell and he wasn't good with any other animal. A lady in a park had her German Sheppard dog off leash and it ran up to my dog. I Immediately picked up my dog and held her high over top of her dog. All she said is "My dog is good with other dogs"/ I let her know "Mine isn't and that is why he is on a leash". She didn't get it!
@wildrvlife

Right! Our dogs will do fine around other dogs, but can get a little funny about being on a leash when another dog is running around them off leash,...so it always makes me nervous when that happens. sometimes I wish I could just pick them up easily too 😄
@amerrickanacres3354
@amerrickanacres3354 6 місяців тому
They never do! We saw a man walking his German Sheppard off leash BUT CARRYING THE LEASH IN HIS HAND. It's just crazy to me how people think nothing will happen because 'my dog is good'. What if you need to get your 'good' dog away from another animal? Crazy.

Here's what I did when the stink bugs invaded our RV. Got a pump sprayer with a good amount of dawn dish soap and just a very small amount of bleach. Sprayed the entire RV outside , top, bottom, sides and slides, around windows and doors. Rinse thoroughly. Stink bugs are following scent trails left by ones before them, doing the soap and bleach and rinse will remove or mask the trail. Before we were getting dozens a day in the RV, once I sprayed the numbers reduced immediately and by 7 days we had zero stink bugs. Be extra generous around slides that's where they were coming in mostly. Do this anytime you see stink bugs. Simple and cheap problem solver.

What I hate about boondocking is when you're parked in the middle of nowhere with no one around and then someone else arrives and parks 20 feet away from your RV. I've parked in the middle of nowhere left my RV and went shopping with my towed car came back a few hours later and and found two RVs parked within 20ft of my RV despite there being lots of parking farther away. I quickly packed up and was getting ready to leave. One of the men from the other RV asked me if this place was good. I told him that I'd only arrived a few hours earlier but since you arrived and parked next door I was going to leave now. I told him I like to boondock to get away from people. He was offended that I'd leave just because they parked so close.

See my comment that your RV is not an off road vehicle. That Brinkley is really expensive and most RV mechanics would recommend them but not if they knew they were taken off road. RV's are not built to handle significant shaking and especially twisting stress. Good luck in your journeys and be safe.

I get so much push back when I talk about solar being almost useless on the East Coast. Out west there is just so much more open space and fewer trees that solar works far better. I always say solar is great when the sun shines!!! And I was in western NC a few weeks ago and the stink bugs were awful. I’m still finding them coming out of the crevices! I was in the same campground, same time last year with no stink bugs so this must be a great year for them.

Under "Rule 4: Arrival Time" I think you need to add what may be obvious which is "Know what time it will get dark". That's the struggle I've had traveling like that. And watch out crossing time zones that you know exactly what time you think it will be at your destination.

Hey guys, my views differ. In my book boondocking is 100% free. If you pay for the site with no water or power nothing, Well in my book that’s primitive camping. If you are in any type of campgrounds it’s not boondocking. If your in your friends driveway that’s moochdocking. Also in my book if your at Walmart or cracker Barrel that’s also a type of moochdocking. Now we open a new can of worms Harvest Hosts, no hookups but you pay for a membership, and it’s a custom to spend money at the site, not boondocking ! So boondocking versus Dry camping ? Go !

Question: when your tanks froze in WV - how did y’all handle that? I’m thinking about getting into the RV life, so I’m trying to learn about pitfalls and whatnot. Thanks!
@wildrvlife
@wildrvlife 5 місяців тому
Well, basically what we did was use the bath house for the remainder of our time at that campground, and then we headed south until our tanks thawed lol. We had been using a heat lamp and making sure our furnace was running which served us well down into the 20s, but we had some days in the single digits and that was just more than they could withstand. However, some rigs have tank heaters (our new one does!) which can really help to prevent that from ever happening.

If you happen to get stink bugs again get some mint plants or mint oil. They hate it. I took some out of my beds because mint is invasive and afterwards had a stink bug problem until I replaced the mint. I did this in raised beds but if you want the plant, I would recommend a couple of small pots.
@wildrvlife

ohh yes, I've heard that they don't like mint! I'll have to try that if they come back.

What’s the best way to find potable water? We have horribly hard water on our ranch and don’t want to fill our rv with it before we take off. If we’re not at a full hookup situation I’m new enough to all this to not know where to get water. Enjoy your content. Thanks!
@wildrvlife
@wildrvlife 6 місяців тому
We usually use iOverlander (an app) for finding places with water (they have a filter for water). But, most dump stations at truck stops like Loves, etc. will have potable water that you can use. Maverick gas stations are another good one that almost always have potable water and sometimes free dump stations!

Hey what a nice young couple, we enjoy watching you and we have a Brinkley also. I was watching you raise your front end to hook up and you still had your back Jack's down. Probably not a good idea. Next time, raise your back Jacks first keep your chalks in and then raise the front end.
@wildrvlife
@wildrvlife 6 місяців тому
Thank you so much for watching! The back ones were actually raised, but it was just such a crazy angle by the time the front was raised, they looked like they were about to touch the blocks! The Brinkley’s back jacks are also a lot lower (when raised) than our last RV too. We want to eventually see if we can raise them a couple of notches for some extra clearance.
