dr103 I’ve been playing the Sims since Sims 1 was released when I was a teenager. If someone asked me if I wanted to be on a Sims game show, I would say, “Hell yes!” I don’t think I would take into consideration the fact that the goal of show developers is to cause dramatic, stressful situations, and they will use your weaknesses and illnesses against you. I could probably deal with the stress of it happening to me, because I’m nearly 37 and have a lot of practice being stressed out and made fun of. I couldn’t, however, deal with watching the people around me have their mental illnesses exploited for sport.

basically what we learned here today: -simmers are generally good people and aren't going to sabotage each other for the *drama* -simmers are generally socially anxious and don't do well w public speaking (like,, why do you think they made that career choice bruh) -the sims 4 is horrible for creating story lines this could have been so much better if they'd just made it a fun collaborative game instead of an excuse for execs to ridicule their fans

@@harrystyleslover1082 It's great when you can actually work your brain for a storyline. Think about the people who aren't too creative, they want a storyline to follow up, maybe a few premade progressions. Sure, the sims 4 have lore and all that as family bios, but when you enter the household do they have the said relationship status? What happed to the cheating with the Calientes and Don? What happened to the Pancakes' rocky relationship? They force you to make your own storyline with only the base game, which indeed is very boring anyone can admit that. There is no explore more for the storyline to get you hooked on it.

I would have to disagree. Certain family's do have storylines. Read the descriptions on the households. The Goth and The Landgrabs. Strangerville has a storyline , Jungle Adventure there is a story or quest.

@@heatherlove8845 right, but that’s as far as it goes. In the previous games, every household was given a storyline, that matched up with their actual lives. Such as relationships, traits, jobs, etc. I personally believe the sims 4 lacks in that area, which makes it so much harder to enjoy.

@@sabbiii yeah even like with the Calientes its Hinted that don lothario is dating all 3 of the Caliente women but if you play they are all just friends, the pancakes says that Bob and Eliza have a rocky relationship you play the game and they have a good relationship, also side note all the sims in the base game have the same amount of days until agreeing up except for the BFF household (Liberty Lee, Travis Scott, Summer Holiday) which age up a day before everybody else which probably means that they were the original sims, but also like make them age up at different times cuz if they dont they would all die at once lol

It's seems like competition drama and backstabbing is a staple in American reality tv. If we watch other versions of reality tv from other countries, they are all supportive and never talk smack about their competition.

Haha I thought this too. Of course they're nervous about storytelling, there's a big difference between sitting and filming in front of a camera, being able to take as many takes as you want, and talking to an audience of people. Even Twitch, even though it's live, is a completely different experience from standing there in front of a crowd of people.

They probably did okay (apart from Steph 😬). Without the dramatic music and cuts, the others all looked like they were doing well. I think the judges were just too harsh. Like at least laugh at their jokes (like when doc was doing the funny voices), no wonder they all feel nervous when you just stare at them awkwardly. Seriously tough crowd to please

simguruninja has some NERVE for complaining about underdeveloped stories after giving simmers only 90 minutes to create a sim, build and create a storyline when EA townies don't even have the skills related to their career level. Many of the creators featured in the competition have been very open about their mental health and the judges should be ashamed of themselves for making them feel bad about their illness or disabilities

It's really gross how they make the only teams with drama, the teams containing people of color, like seriously? Especially when the game is known for diversity. Also, the fact they are upset the teams couldn't make a good video in 5 hours?? The idea could have been fun and relaxing, and they just made it awful, dramatic, and stressful, while making perfectly nice people seem horrible.

What they could've done like other shows is give them multiple days (2 or more but for this particular one maybe 2-3) to do a project that requires a lot of time. There is still a time limit but would give out better, flushed out results.If the feedback is that it needs to be more flushed out from every team, it isn't the team's issue but a time limit issue

What defines someone as a “Pro Sims Player”? There’s literally no competitive elements in The Sims, there’s not even multiplayer in it

Pro is short for professional, which is defined by money made. You can be an amateur artist who paints for fun or a professional artist who paints for the sake of money, same thing with the sims. It doesn't' always have to line up with skill (e.g. I know great musicians who can't deal with the gig economy so their primary income is teaching instead). These are people who make a living by creating content about the sims.

90 minutes on my own to just create a sim is hard enough let alone having two other people orbiting me and me needing to only take around 30 minutes. I honestly don’t think the “gurus” play their own game apart from when they are showing it off. Also it’s no coincidence that none of the storytellers did well here, the fact that these super creative people really struggled to make a shallow storyline isn’t a good thing. It just shows the lack of depth in the Sims 4. Oh I also take a couple of days to come up with my story’s and they pop up at the most random times so 90 minutes isn’t enough to even make a story for me.

I think the description was too vague too for the challenges, especially the narration part. I know there is a lot we didn't see, but considering that the storytelling was considered the weak element, i doubt they got much direction. I feel like Dr. Gluon got jipped and I feel so bad for what his teammates said.

Not really. The Sims 4 is perfect for setting up house and Sims. The story is mainly up to the player. The stories just weren’t good but they were 90 mins.

The forced drama, the judges being overly harsh considering the time frame and the limitations of the game (because they weren’t using cc or mods), the ANTM type editing and trying to make villains out of participants.... yes it was that bad. It’s a good idea but it’s executed poorly.

i would totally agree if you were talking about the sims 4's lack of lore and premade storylines. what i don't get is how this game is any less workable for new storylines than previous iterations or many of the mods you mentioned. I don't see how adding, say, sex (wicked whims), story progression that is amazing while playing but quite honestly not really needed in a machinima the way i see it (mccc) would make for an anymore better story. basemental stories are nice but lets be real here, quite honestly just very overdone. many of the folks using basemental for the same tragic junkie/alcoholic dad story have never dealt with drugs or alcoholism in their life anyway, so im only glad to see those storylines be taken out of the realm of possibility here. everyone keeps stating how the sims 2 and the sims 3 would make for infinitely better storyline ideas. im curious to hear any examples of this. again, the premade storylines of the previous iterations are AMAZING and the sims 4 is nothing short of disappointingly lackluster compared to it, but i just do not see how that impacts players' ability to come up with their own storylines. there is SO much you can do with the sims 4 that many people don't even know about, because it just doesn't come up in them.

The sims 3 for example, I would go on vacation, to the jungle meet someone, come home then do something else. In the sims 4 I have zero inclination to do anything past making a sim and decorating.

@@avokiwicado8477 yeah swatches, but when all ur townies have the same 4 one piece styles to choose from it starts feeling repetitive. you can buy expansions to get more one piece styles, but that costs money and some people can only afford base game. as someone with access to a disposable income, and 1400 hours logged in the game, it would be nice to have more styles of both the two-piece options and the one-piece options. for example, we only have bikinis for two piece options. why not add tankinis? im not counting the two tank top options as a tankini because they wind up being cut more like one pieces than like a two piece swimsuit. there's so many options they could be adding, but they always go for very similar styles to what we already have.

Honestly, this show sounded like a good idea initially and I was super excited to see how it was gonna go (especially because UrbanSims was on it!!) but I genuinely believe the execution was awful.. Most of them looked stressed when it should’ve been more of a fun thing. Maybe it’s just me. I think The Sims is about individuality so pairing three extremely different individuals together to make a story was a rough start.

If I showed this to a friend who doesn't play the sims, watching this wouldn't make them want to start playing. and they wouldn't keep watching. Poor editing, not all players were properly introduced, and we didn't get to see the builds in great detail! Also, no tension building whatsoever as time was running out. It was so disjointed and weird! Asking them to create a story in live mode is batshit. The sims 4 has no depth for storytelling like that and sims often don't do what you ask. None of this is the fault of the players, btw. I don't understand what this show is trying to achieve. Anyway I hope plumbella wins, she's a sweetheart

I was really hoping this would be more chill and fun for the simmers, but instead they're put under immense pressure, penalized for having anxiety, and just not given a space where they can thrive. Also the 5 hours for all that is just unrealistic and I'm not sure the creators of the show know just how much work it takes to make some of the videos these simmers do. I'm really hoping after seeing some of the comments the show takes a turn for the better because it does have a lot of potential xc I just wanna see everyone participating having fun and getting competitive not stressed💜

there were a few reasons the storytelling was weak and I think the main part of that is because the storytelling in the game is terrible. they can only do so much with what they're given.

I think the judges should try to put themselves in the contestants of shoes then they would realize how impossible it is to build a house create as sim and make a story in 90 minutes

They should allocate one day for one session of competition. Like, even myself spend 2 hours for just creating a family only. And I think many of simmers out there who spend more than 90mins just to do one segment

I easily can take 90 minutes just to make a Sim lol and I can take normally take 5-12 hrs for a build. I hate time crunches like that. Im 8 minutes in and its already not holding my attention.

@@allyssarhiane4738 They bring their concerns up because it is a problem. Mira has been a vocal and prominent simmer who continues to advocate for Black creators and players in the Sims Community. Her melanin packs and other CC make darker skin Sims a reality. The fact that her input was overlooked, considering her experiences dealing with the Sims and its community, speaks volumes.

The only criticism i have here is that the judges, even simguruninja, clearly dobt understand the pressure being put on the storytellers. a lot of simmers are introverts and while yes they did sign up for this, being put on the spot with all eyes on you and a team counting on you is extremely stressful. yes they have a lot of followers who watch their videos, but its not live and they get to edit everything they put out. i just think the storytelling portion shouldnt have so much pressure put on it. especially in a game where there isnt much story to tell

@@veanell yeah but its a show tho, they still need money to pay their workers and to pay for the winner. They earn money from us the viewer. Shows will never got attention if they are lack of dramas or their drama are small. And they cant shine every contestant, cause as we know, theres a lot of people to shine, and they have limit of 45 minutes per episode and the 15minutes probably for commercial break. But next episode they will get to shine everyone because theres less people to focus with

It's funny simguruninja wanted more depth out of the simmers when 1) the time limits were ridiculously too short to do so AND 2) the Sims 4 game itself lacks depth. The feeling of irony was so strong that he was judging these simmers on the thing he hasn't been able to accomplish himself. Sims 4 gameplay is SO BLAND in comparison to Sims 2 and Sims 3!
