Hello everyone. It would be great to see the ESP-32 with embedded display performing a multi-threading task like: receiving the display content via WIFI on the first thread and the second thread managing the display. I have tried to address a similar task using ESP-8266 but sometimes the Wifi lagging out stalls the display routine. Also Andreas, great channel, great stuff, great gadgets. Congratulations!

In addition to the (spelling for the reports to the commander ) the P-L-U-G was found to be on the floor or the O-N / O-F-F switch was found in the O-F- F position. Numerous electrical systems for the troops were repaired when these condiitons were found. Thanks for the memories. :)

Thank you very much for your high-quality and informative videos! I am looking forward to the ESP32 board reviews too. When doing the review, maybe you could also look at how usbserial converters are integrated into the circuits. From what I have seen, they are hard-wired on most boards (e. g. ESP8266 Wemos boards). That makes them pretty unusable for driving them using solar power, because the converter needs 15-20mA at all times.
@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 6 років тому
I never use boards if I want low poser consumption. I only use modules without anything I do not need.
@rainerpoisel2400
@rainerpoisel2400 6 років тому
Andreas Spiess yes, I know. IMHO, there is no other way to achieve the goal of low power consumption at the moment. However, I was hoping, that board suppliers get on that track too. I do like the Wemos boards a lot due to their form factor. And I think it would not take much to design circuits to support low power scenarios as well. Maybe with the new ESP32 boards things have changed ...

Hi Andreas ! I Like very much your "teachings" and the way you pass clearly the information ! Thanks for all ! Great Job ! I have an WeMos D1 R32 and i uploaded your Sketch "ESP32_GPIODiscovery.ino". After tha,t i simply placed a jumper wire instead of a push button, connected one end to the board's GND and started do try diverse testings with the other end of the jumper wire..... Well, i found that GPIO 0(GPIO zero) is the first Pin from the sequence IO0,5V,RST,3V3,5V,GND,GND,VIN (at least at this board that is specified at the silkscreen) on a regular UNO there isn't any text, but i think it is the same pin assignment for all WeMos ESP32 UNO like boards, like the ESPDUINO32, WeMos TTGO ESP32 and the WeMos D1 R32 (mine) !!!! But not the UNO's !!!!. Now the spooky,funny,interesting part of "that" testings....... ....After i tried some ""RISKY"" connections like ittentionaly shorting 5V+GND and 3V3+GND......( KAPUFF !!!! Eureka ! ) I saw something weird.....and even found a method to reproduce it or else it doesn't work..... After turning OFF the board and turn it ON again, just Push the RESET BUTTON and after that shunt quickly 3V3+GND and you will have this following message on the Serial Monitor window: rst:0x8 (TG1WDT_SYS_RESET),boot:0x0 (DOWNLOAD_BOOT(UART0/UART1/SDIO_FEI_FEO_V2)) waiting for download .....Waiting for Download....... (SELF EXPLAINABLE, i think !!!) Well with this version, it seems that ESP8266 BOOT function still exists (but hidden without the RST Button), i wonder what's the purpose of it ?... maybe it's not or something else.... ....tell me what you think what you think that might be.... See you !

As you're interested with speech recognition on the pi, could I suggest to look at the microphone arrays "Respeak" form Seeedstudio, the cheap 2 mics hat and the more expensive but interesting far field 7 mics board ? And when you test the esp32 with lipo charger, could take a look of charging circuit, specially if their is a way to reduce the charging current?
@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 6 років тому
I did not find a "cheap" micro, only the expensive platform. I think, for these things, I will stick with my Alexa for the moment. Why would you want to reduce the current?
@AltMarc
@AltMarc 6 років тому
Why? because of Li-coin cells and others, which don't like 500mA charging.( for using the ULP or the wake up inputs...) On the schematics of the sparkfun esp32 thing, there is a note about how to modify the charging current. Arn't they clones? BTW: coin cells with holder fit nicely in the with of the esp32 thing.

WeMos boards have become so popular that in addition to the clones you can find WeMos silk screened on clones of other companies/makers. It seems that is why WeMos changed their logo to WEMOS in squared font about a month ago

With the Chinese, the form of a logo does not seem to be a help in separating the good from the bad. They are very quick with copying everything.

Great video i like postbags. I am often interested in the efficiency of power supply devices(save the planet and all that...). Its a quite bit of a work to setup and measure that and make load/efficiency curves so a lot of youtubers never do that. And to be fair it sometimes can be found at the manufacturer. Perhapps an idea for a video sometime. I like power supplies that have efficiency >85% that also helps when needed mount them in small compartments that have poor heat dissipation capabilities.

The GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus) format is already a standard, unless it's been revoked and replaced. IEEE-488 is the number if I remember correctly. It was used for early Commodore stand-alone floppy disk drives before they were changed to use a serial connection. It's a 16-pin format with 8 pins for bidirectional data transfer and 8 pins for ground and signalling. All I remember now about the data transfer format is that it was a master-slave system where there is a single "master" which does all the signalling, and it begins a command by asserting the "ATN" (attention) control line.

Oh, I dug out my ESP32 and played with her for a short time this morning, then It dawned on me, I had installed Mongoos OS on it, I ran it up and found her IP address, then opened it in Chrome, and brought up a nice webpage with Welcome to Mongoos on the top, with instructions on how to use it. I am not all that familiar with Mongoos but I think it is a C++ spinoff for such boards as this Gives me something to study next week when we take a quick week vacation up at Fort Abraham Lincoln Just south of Mandan North Dakota, where General Custer last slept in a bedroom, before his long trip to Montana and the Little Big Horn river, where he and his entire group were slaughtered as they tried to force the Sioux and Cheyenne back onto their reservations.

Sounds like a nice place where you live... I was travelling a few times in your beautiful country , but so far, was never in South- or North Dakota. As a Harley owner, I might change this once if I come to Sturgis ;-)
@JerryEricsson
@JerryEricsson 6 років тому
It really is grand if you don't come in the Winter. Now that we have grown a bit old, we have been escaping the winters by heading to Arizona for that season, not sure how that is going to work this year, but we shall see I guess. Yes Harley Riders love Sturgis, we live 175 miles North of there however I get down there several times a year since that is where my Veterans Administration Hospital is. Long drive to see the Dr but the price is right (free!). The Black Hills of South Dakota are a true wonder, We enjoy driving through them several times per year as well. Here about three years ago, we drove out to Yellowstone National Park and spent a week taking in the Sights, they were indeed great to see, but a sort of disappointment after the Black Hills experience. More wildlife out in the Park, and the geysers are a wonder as are all the thermal ponds and such, on the way we did stop at the Custer Battlefield in Montana and saw where Custer met his match in the person of Setting Bull, Thunder Hawk, and Crazy Horse, all great leaders of their tribes and nations. The history that abounds this are is amazing when you set down to absorb it all. They say that Every Harley Rider must visit Sturgis at least once in their lifetime, come on over and enjoy the excitement and the wilds of South Dakota!

@patrichausammann
@patrichausammann 6 років тому
It is a white, not very hard material in a little round box and after the advertisement, it should be mild to the solder tips (not too abrasiv). But I haven't tried it now, but thought that you maybe had used that item already.

did you try running the esp13 shield in standalone mode?..i have one and could never get it to talk to the arduino..aparently the TX/RX pins are reversed on the shield...but if you run it standalone you should get access to the esp8266 chip

I tried it Stand-alone, also got a new firmware and flashed it. But still, it does not work...
@WacKEDmaN

if you managed to flash it..then its working!... you need to ground GPIO pin 2 (or is it 13?!) to get it to boot into normal mode IIRC (its been a while..i eventually went to a standalone esp-12 and nodemcu)

Yeah, really looking forward to a ESP32 shootout. Especially the quiescent power draw in sleep mode. A lot of ESP8266 draws way too much power when in sleep mode due to USB to serial converters and ineffective DC converters.
@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 6 років тому
I will not measure quiescent current on development boards, because I know the result: It is very (much too) high. I only will measure it for simple modules (as I did with the ESP8266).
