My great great great great grandfather was John MacPherson of Knoydart Scotland who fought in the battle of Culloden and came to Nova Scotia Canada in 1792. There was two other families MacDonalds who also fought in the battle of Culloden that came to Nova Scotia. The three families lived in Knoydart Nova Scotia. So much rich Scottish history in Nova Scotia.

Amazing Debora! My ancestors also fought for Bonnie Prince Charlie at Culloden, though I don’t know of any that headed to Nova Scotia but I know there are MacEachens there!

My Spanish/Puerto Rican father raised me with the language and culture. Never knew much about my mom. Only that she could be Irish or German. The other night I discovered I’m half Scottish through Ancestry.. this is so beautiful and fascinating. Hopefully one day, I can visit. Scotland has a such a rich and intact history, Im in awe . ❤ Thank you for sharing this !

Thank you for this tour. It's a reality check for most of us who never knew what our ancestors no doubt lived through. My family lived in Scotland, we think the northern part, slowly moving to Canada then to the US a 150 yrs ago. It was heart warming to hear my grand father who still had a bit of his Scottish accent; just a few words that he automatically spoke that sounds somewhat like you. SCOTLAND is beautiful to be sure, but wasn't an easy way of life in times past. This was wonderful & I love your videos of this beautiful country. Thank you!!!

We have similar open-air museums in Germany. They are a fantastic way to get a feel for how everyday life used to be. Standing in a real room where generations have lived and worked, seeing the light through the windows, the old utensils, breathing the air in such a house, gives impressions that are not possible through a book, photos or films.

Great tour through some earlier centuries, John! But frankly spoken, I got a little disappointed! We got to see quite a number of animals carved out of wood, but were the heck`s the Haggis 🤔🙄🙁🥺? I`d have been happy to see any kind, 1-, 2-, 3-, 4- or more legged, I don`t care 😁🤪😘!

This is fantastic! I do have some Scottish heritage (along with red hair😂). There are these kinds of open air museums all over the USA. A great one at Plymouth, Massachusetts that shows how the Pilgrims lived. I’m directly descended from one of the Mayflower passengers so it’s especially interesting. Also, Williamsburg, Virginia, the “wild” West, etc. I loved going to them as a school kid and don’t see enough of the schools taking the kids to these great learning experiences where they get a real example of how difficult life could be. Get them out in fresh air and away from their computers, video games and iPhones. Sadly, progress doesn’t always make life better, does it? Great job, young man!!!

Thanks for showing how our Ancestors lived so many years ago. So much information today tells how our Ancestors battled each other when their clans were angry. Ancestorial Grandfather fighting Ancestorial Grandfather. It is so good to see they loved Family and lived, played, and worked somewhat normal lives for the time.

Same, only I'm from California's Central Coast. Don't you adore his accent? His perfect enunciation shows me my own lazy speech 🫢. This village would be a great place for people to dress in period costumes and do the typical day in the life activities, including their music at least once in awhile. Some aspects of this village reminds me of ancient Cherokee villages. Looks like you'd just want to hang out for the day to change gears in your mind to get into it, you know? Greetings from Maryland- thanks for a wonderful tour, John. New York state has something very similar, the Gennessee Country Village and Museum. Over 600 acres - they took original structures from around the state, dismantled them, and rebuilt them on-site. Covers mostly 1700s and 1800s. But they do have at least two Victorian homes, one of which, if I remember correctly, was originally a brothel in NYC. Tons of art and artifacts, too. These are the best museums ever!

It is unlikely that I’ll be able to see this in my lifetime, so I really appreciate this video. Thank you for posting.

Such a fabulous tour through this remarkable site, commemorating the older ways of life. It is truly incredible to imagine living in those conditions, compared to the comforts available today. Your narration is absolutely delightful, so informative, clear, and engaging! I feel as though I'm right there with you! Such a special treat! I am particularly struck by how flammable these structures are, and how hazardous the conditions, and the poor quality of air, sanitation, poor light, etc. Thank you so very much!

Thanks for the tour, John. Your channel is certainly giving a better perspective of Scotland, as opposed to movies made that show everything as cold. dark and oppressive. Cheers from Texas.
