Up until about a month ago, I was feeling pretty smug about the fact that my iPhone 14 Pro had lasted about 9 months on 100% battery health. That is until we took a drive in our new car, and I put the phone on the included wireless phone charger for about 2 hours, and the wireless charger absolutely cooked my phone, resulting in a 2% drop in battery health. And honestly, from that point on, it feels like the floodgates have opened. Now, it’s worth pointing out that lithium ion batteries do lose chemical health over time, this is totally normal, but I’m definitely feeling the pinch a little bit now, with a phone that would usually last all day, now needing charging at least once during the day.
So, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to do some research, and find out what I could do to keep my battery lasting as long as possible. Now, I can’t restore any battery health, but what I have been able to do is drastically increase the amount of time that my battery lasts, with it now actually lasting longer than it did before it lost it’s battery health. These are settings that I think you should know about, and whilst you might not decide to use all of them, you should definitely consider using some of them, to get as much life out of your battery as you possibly can.

Good information. My general advice is don’t obsess over it. Enjoy all that your phone offers. You paid for it. Charge as you need, and if battery health declines before you’re ready for a new phone, you can have the battery replaced.

You are absolutely right. For someone like me changing the phone every couple of years will be kind of hard. So i would like to preserves as much as i can. But i have paid every single feature and using none. That's really sad. 120hz is so smooth to use, as i have enabled low power mode, its turned off too.. I think i should take your suggestion.

Great info ... I adjusted a few settings after your description of what they did - Thank you! I have not had issues with battery life. I have modified charging time ... I do not typically charge overnight. I work from a home office and it is generally convenient to allow battery to drain to 30% and below and then charging as I am working during the day. BUT, I also have an Apple watch (Ultra) so I am not dependent on the phone for calls/messages/emails. Still, I like to keep my phone 2-3 years so understanding battery health is important to me.

Batteries are complex, and their precise capacity can vary. For instance, Apple's "100%" for the 14 Pro Max is 4323 mAh. But due to manufacturing nuances, many batteries end up with an "overcapacity," like 4729 mAh (~109% health). This is why when you drop below 100%, it can feel like opening the "flood gates"-you're just approaching Apple's spec. I work in R&D for a medical company, and we see similar battery capacity variations. It's a bit of a "battery lottery." Side note: Many have noticed the iPhone 14's quicker battery health decline. It's a topic worth investigating further. Your wireless charging point is valid. It can be less efficient than wired. Every 1% delivered through a cable might be 0.8% wirelessly, but with similar wear. This impacts battery longevity. To get a clearer picture, tools like CoconutBattery can reveal if your device began with overcapacity.

Push works a little bit different: when a email reaches the mailbox (and only then), the server (or mail delivery agent) "pushes" it to the app (mail user agent); the bulk of the battery consumption is because the display turns on and not because the email is being pushed to the phone, so the "solution" is in the way one handles the notifications.

This is by far the best video to explain on details on how to get the most out of your battery! I do want to add one thing.. Under Sound and Haptics, I would scroll down to where you see "System Haptics" and I would turn that off which disables all haptics from your phone. Since your iPhone does haptics around the system it can also drain some battery. Other than that great video!

I second your experience of charging phone in the car. I went more that 9 months at 100%. One fine day, did a car charge thru Apple original cable and since then I’ve dropped to 90% in three months. I’m using 13mini btw. I think, the settings have less to do with it, but more is because once something cooks and heats your battery like a car charge gone wrong or a high heat summer day usage, thats it, your battery is never going to be the same again. I am a very very light user, no heavy games, videos or social.

I’m a little late, but fast vs slow charging doesn’t affect battery health. Heat is one of the biggest contributing factors, as long as fast charging isn’t generating any extra heat, it’ll degrade at the same rate as slower charging would.
@geraldct46803

@Veno1999 7 місяців тому
@@geraldct46803 it doesn’t matter if the charger itself gets hot or not, just your phone. If your phone stays cool to the touch at 50watt charging (for example) your battery will degrade at the same rate as charging at 5watt would.

Video is great, particularly about auto brightness. However, it is incorrect that push means the iphone is constantly querying the email server. Push means the email server will serve the email to the phone when received, push is better than fetch for battery life in most instances, unfortunately it is not available for all email providers. Lastly compass calibration and motion calibration and distance I would say are quite important if you use maps and even more so if you use it for walking directions, knowing the direction you are going when walking is pretty useful and if compass calibration is off it can affect the accuracy of the direction, say it from experience haha.

I went extreme with this, by creating some automations in Shortcuts to keep Low Power mode on constantly. As such I get 2-3 days between charges on my iPhone SE 3rd gen. And I've not noticed any negative impact for how I use my phone, because I don't want alerts on email receipt. I prefer to check my email only when I'm away from my computer and have the time to do so, so I don't need email activity constantly in the background. I still receive my text Messages as and when they are sent by the other party, so this is the one thing which would have been a deal breaker for me, but thankfully is not a problem with Low Power mode. The Shortcuts automations to achieve this were: 1. When battery falls below 100%, set Low Power mode to ON. and 2. When Low Power mode is turned OFF, set Low Power mode to ON. I also have Shortcuts automations to switch WiFi and Bluetooth OFF when I am away from home and then switch them back on when I am near or at home. I don't use WiFi or Bluetooth outside of home, so why leave those radios ON?

Fantastic and very informative video again, thank you so much! To me one of the worst things you can do is actually QI charging. Especially in cars, I'm afraid they are real battery killers. I just updated to a 14Pro and I now refrain from QI chargers and use a good old cable. One question you might be able to give an answer to: I have lots of open tabs in Safari on my iPhone (140) is that as well a battery drainer, or are they only activated when tapping on the tab? Thanks 🙏🏻

it's okay to have many open tabs. your phone will put them into standby mode and then activate the tab that you're using. so only activated when tapping on the tab 👍

🔥👍🏼 Amazing video!!! Can you tell more about the battery option « 80% limit » that we can enable now in Battery > Health battery > optimisation. Are you using this one? Is it better than Optimised recharge? Thanks for your meaningful help, I’ll appreciate 👍🏼😜

You’re not the only one feeling smug about the battery being 100%. I don’t think it was the charger in your car but more to do with an update. Around the same time my update started to destroy my battery, knocking my iPhone 14 pro now down to 90%. I have a shortcut set up that lowers my screen brightness at a really low setting for in the house then slightly boosts it around 9am when daylight.

We have to remember that the wireless charging system is simply a couple RF coils, some filters, some control, rectification (and maybe smoothing) and finally regulation before it enters the charging chip. It’s got to be a little thermal wasting the induction coils and all those semiconductors producing all that heat, but I also agree with the update.

If you want to keep your battery as long as possible , charge it between 60 and 80% , my 11pro went nearly 18 months before dropping to 99% .
@aviatordiego4769
@aviatordiego4769 8 місяців тому
That’s actually impossible. My 14 pro displays 100 and when I actually check in my iPhones actual analytics where you can see the charge cycles and actual battery capacity it’s at 96. So yours was probably closer to 85-90%. Batteries degrade no matter how much care you take.

Why would you worry that much about battery health? You can get it replaced by Apple for around 80 bucks. When it reaches around 85-80% just get it replaced. I know you could save that money by taking care of it but is it really worth having to stress over your battery degrading?

Nice sharing! Toggle “On” Auto Play effects & videos are really bad ideas especially if the phone network is weak. And when the phone trying “very hard” to load social media contents without having a good network or loss network, the phone started to get from warmer to really hot at times. Maybe you should touch on weird situations like phone getting warmer and to the extent feeling like an iron iphone. What are to possible actions etc.

Zero points for origninality since every battery saving video out there has the same list of settings to change. 100 points for presentation as your videos are always a pleasure to watch. How you speak in a constant warm tone and present the infographics is really good. 👍

My iPhone SE (2020)'s Battery Health is down to 85% after 16 months of usage every day. Not bad but I'm thinking of getting a battery swap done in 2024 or if the health slips below 80%, whichever comes first.
