I bought a 2012 in may 2022, which already had 176k miles as that was in my price range. I bIt gets 25 mpg city and 29 mpg on the freeway at a cruising speed of 80 to 85 mph. Handling is excellent, ride is smooth except over really rough surfaces. The car accelerates strongly and idles smoothly. @@flurpoid Yes indeed, GM & Honda work together every once in a while. GM wanted a nice compact, powerful, & reliable V6 for their Saturn Vue as you mentioned. But Honda’s transmission fluid is pure garbage & breaks down very quickly causing issues.

@@aab434 My TL has the 5-Speed transmission & it still shifts smooth & fast. By 2006-2007 Honda sorted the “Hondamatic” transmission design out. The problem mostly stems from Honda’s transmission fluid… which is pure garbage. The fluid recipe they use breaks down very quickly compared to other formulations. The secret is to service the transmission at least once a year. Thankfully, the 5-Speeds were improved & made very tough. Whenever the transmission starts acting up a 3x3 drain & fill is all that’s needed to get working perfectly again.

I replaced the timing belt, just un case, and and did the 3 x 3 trans drain and fill, and also put drilled and slotted rotors on her. Drive back and forth to Los Vegas from LA, in the 105* plus weather both ways. At most i burned 1/8 of a quart, at most! No drips of any fluids on my driveway or on the underside of her. Theconbination of price, performance, looks, somewhat easy to work on, and safety are far and away better than any car I've owned (or any of my friends have either)! Thanks for the video 👍✌️

I bought a black 2012 TL AWD base model in late 2013. Car had 99,000 miles on it. Picked it up for about $19,000. Body was like new. Engine still ran smooth like new even with all those miles (and burned no oil). I kept it a few years but due to finacial situation I sold and always regretted it. Just recently I came across a 2014 exact same color and trim with 75,000 miles on it. This time I was able to pay cash staight up and I am LOVING being back in a TL again. I forgot how much I enjoyed the power and sound of that 3.7, especially after driving a 4cyl beater car for the last 6 years. I've put less than 1,000 miles on it, so not sure if it's an oil burner yet. So far it's still at top of the range on the stick so it is looking promising at this point. Only thing I really don't like about this gen is WHY didn't they make the rear seats fold down?? Basically every car has this! But they give you that little tiny pass through lol. Also for some reason there is a few spots on the roof and trunk where the clear coat is failing. I think maybe someone got some sort of solvent on it possibly. I will have it repainted if it comes down to it I guess. But overall this car is my favorite out of all the cars I've owned. It even beats out my WRX I had. And when cleaned up and polished, the black paint with the chrome moldings looks so fine. One other thing to mention about this gen, I love how clean the engine bay looks when all the garnishes are installed. Seriously the most sexy engine bay I've ever seen lol.

2013 front-wheel drive TL owner here (bought new). I’m at 208,000 miles. So I just finished my second 100k service and I plan to push it to 300k if I manage to not wreck it. The only non-maintenance work I’ve had to do is replace the belt tensioner at 175k. The serpentine belt would squeal and we could not solve it any other way. So fantastic reliability, still handles and accelerates like new. One notable issue is the brake rotors. They warp very quickly. Which turns to a vibration during braking when hot (long drives). I have had to replace them at every brake pad change, which to me means that they are undersized. Otherwise, this car has been a fantastic daily driver for a guy that drives a lot.

2009 Acura TL standard edition 5speed auto bought used at 150 K miles. Turned 280,00 miles recently. As a former BMW driver 5 series these cars have a really noisy interior and don't come anywhere close to a Bimmer's driving experience. That being said my TL is reliable and competent in all conditions. Car gets an average of 29 MPG and is mostly driven on the highway. I drive about 300 plus miles weekly; I've changed one wheel bearing because it started making a grinding noisy. I just installed front and rear struts, made a world of difference. The timing belt had about 100, 000 miles on it, it looked and felt brand new, probably could have gone another 80K I would think. I replaced the water pump all belts and pulleys and had the plugs replaced. I did replace the front motor mount ($80) and this car is ready for another 100 K miles. I use a high mileage oil, car uses zero oil between changes (18 -20K miles). The only additions to stock were I changed the low beams from HID to LED (Forsh Krieges 10K lumen ) I can really see the road now without blinding oncoming traffic. Perfect.

Bought my 09 with 50,000 miles. Had 03 CL Manual type S that’s I bought brand new prior to this car. Loved my CL but having the SH-AWD made a huge difference. My wife has 13 RDX that I’m trading in for 23 Lexus GX and I have no plans to get rid of my 09 anytime soon. I have owned a 75 Honda civic (bought at 19 in 1983) a 88 CRX then the 03 CL and now the 09 TL. 4 Honda products in 40 years and they’ve all given me many reliable miles.

In 2018 I was able to purchase a silver 2013 TL w/ technology package in and 12K miles. It had been a second car for a retired couple, always garaged. Paid CA$H (from a home refi w lower % rate) so I had no payments! I’m retired and a lifetime learner but having previously owned an RL, I wanted to be familiar and comfortable with operating the car. … I’ve owned it for 5 Years now so it’s 10 year old BUT just hit 30K! Part of that low mileage was bc of restricted travel due to COVID. I live in SoCal desert ☀️🌵so I’ve parked it in AC garage always… I just had it detailed and ceramic tint film professionally applied on the windows. 🤩 I’m so pleased! It looks almost new!

I bought the 2012 front wheel drive version new. I still have the car, and it's been generally very good. The engine and drive train have been totally reliable. I recently had the 100,000 mile maintenance done, and it should be good for many more miles. I do have one issue that displeases me with the car. There is an intermittent failure of the radio, in which the radio either will not come on when I start the car or will not restart if I turn the radio off and then try to turn it back on again. Several days later, it works just fine again and may go on with no problem for months at a time. This problem does not seem to be related to weather, time of year, time of day, recent use of the car or any other common reason that I have identified. Still, it is a great car to drive, and it is the daily transportation for my wife and I.

I own a 2011 Acura TL sh-awd. I honestly preferred this over the 07-08 type s cause it felt older outdated but still looked nice for it’s age, just reminded me to much of that boy ricer. This model felt mature and better suited for my age. This car definitely feels premium and drives really nice. The tlx feels like an empty shell of the TL, almost like they tried to capture the old 3rd gen TL with a similar styling of the 4th gen and smaller compact size tsx.

Love my '09 TL so much. Got mine used, about two years ago now, several owners in it's car history at 186k. Beat the snot out of it, hitting redline each gear first year I got it lol. 224k now but damn does it take a beating. A '22 BMW totaled it last month so soon enough I might just have to say goodbye to it, too much for repairs out of pocket so I'll pick up a cheap daily. Hoping to pick another one up eventually seeing how nice it's been to me. If it were any other car, it would've hit it's limit.

I’m driving this car until getting it fixed cost more than it’s worth. Never had anything major break on it, just once was their a weird issue. And it was just fixed by having them reset the computer in it. Their solid, no car I’ve ever driven feels as nice so I hope this lasts me a lot more miles because I really don’t think there’s any car I’ll love as much.

As the owner of a 2012 Triple Black with a 6-speed manual, for nearly a decade (purchased it Certified Pre-Owned), I can attest that these are great cars. The steering feel might not be quite as nimble as a BMW 5-Series, but with SH-AWD, the big girl will still handle On Ramps extremely well. Plus the repair bills are a fraction of the cost of the Bimmer! Don’t ask me how I know!!! The interior is not quite Lexus ES 350 quiet, but she isn’t as loud as an Infiniti G37. And with a good hand wash, polish, and wax, she still turns heads when I go to the store or just when getting fuel. If Honda/ Acura was smart, they would have offered a Type-S trim, with say 400hp, and I dare say it would be a rival to the king of uber sedans: The E39 M-5!! A mild supercharger on that 3.7L engine would give it good low-end grunt and an extra 95 hp would be wonderful!! I can only dream!

I own a silver 2013 6 speed manual SH-AWD, with the tech package. I bought it new and put 120,000 miles on it so far. It's relatively fast, handles really well (with a set of summer performance tires), is comfortable, and with a set of snow tires is amazingly good in snow and ice. The SH-AWD system is exceptional (in sporting and inclement conditions) and you can really feel the torque vectoring rear differential when driving in a spirited manner around corners or freeway entrance ramps. A few things to note: on my car the ENTIRE transmission was replaced at 69k miles right before the drivetrain warranty expired. I brought it in to the dealer for a slight transmission whine noise present in 6th gear at highway speed and to my surprise the factory rep authorized an entire new manual transmission. I'm still on the original clutch (no, I didn't have it replaced when the transmission was but should have - shame on me), and i'm just starting to feel like the engagement is getting high up in the pedal travel. At 75k miles one of the lobes of the rear camshaft eroded and the engine developed a loud ticking sound. The repair was NOT covered by warranty. The car uses about 1 quart of oil for every 3k miles. I suspect the cam failure may have resulted from me not keeping up with the oil consumption. I'm considering running a thicker oil to reduce consumption. These J37 motors are strong and sounds great but excessive oil consumption is a common issue (there was a class action law suit, I believe). I recommend the car to anyone as it drives so well and so forth, but watch out for loud ticking and excessive transmission whine on the manual transmissions. I plan on keeping mine indefinitely since it's a configuration (manual transmission, AWD, sedan) that is not sold anymore.

I just bought a 2010 TL SH-AWD a week ago and I have the same exact engine ticking noise as you. It didn’t have any oil on the oil dipstick when I pulled it. I did an oil change with 5W20 Mobil 1 Full Syn High Mileage. The oil dipstick is full now, and the car drives wonderful. I still have the ticking noise, and it makes the noise non stop. Can you please give me some advice or point me in the right direction? It’s way too nice of a car to just give up on.

Great video, learned some new things about my car! I've owned a '13 SH-AWD Advance since 59k in 2019, now sitting at 126k. Coming from an '05 3G TL, it was hard for me to love it at first and I miss my old TL all the time. But, this one has grown on me a lot and I love the way it looks now. The driving experience and interior quality is leaps and bounds above the 3G, and it's been very solid and hasn't skipped a beat, much less problematic than the '05. Starting to have some oil consumption as is common with the 3.7s, and my rear main seal and oil pump are leaking so to the shop it goes next week. I've also been through 2 sets of tires and pads, and several fluid changes for trans and diffs... I'm not easy on this car, but as long as I treat it right there's no reason to think about getting anything else. Still fun to toss around corners, and eats up highway miles effortlessly.
