2011 Michigan highlights v. Notre Dame (HD)

September 10, 2011. Michigan 35, Notre Dame 31. For the third year in a row, Michigan's game-winning score came in the final 30 seconds, as Denard Robinson hit Roy Roundtree for a 16-yard TD with two seconds remaining to cap a comeback where they outscored Notre Dame 28-7 in the fourth quarter. Denard Robinson threw for 338 yards and 4 touchdowns (Junior Hemingway (43 yards), Jeremy Gallon (14), Vincent Smith (21), and Roy Roundtree (16))on only 11 completions and added another 108 yards on the ground and a TD on a fumble recovery. Michigan also got interceptions from Jordan Kovacs and J.T. Floyd and three fumble recoveries to win the turnover battle 5-3.

I think this was the most amazing Michigan-ND game (and maybe the most amazing UM win) ever. I stayed up very late, hoping against hope, that Michigan might actually find a way to score a TD in the final 27 seconds of the game. Just one of many great, miraculous type finishes in which Michigan found a way to beat Notre Dame. I never get tired of ND lose to anyone, but especially to Michigan!

Michigan might just have one of the most underrated receiving cores in the NCAA. There isn't a bad receiver on the team! Martavious Odoms was a starter for michigan the last 2 years and now, he is probably the 4th or 5th receiver on the depth chart. Don't underestimate these Michigan receivers or the defense. Everyone knows what Denard Robinson can do and teams gameplan around him, but it still doesn't matter. Watch out for Michigan this year! Go Blue!

I live close to ND, but I'm a U of M fan... no matter how you look at this, both teams played their hearts out and both teams have every right to feel good about how hard they played. I am just VERY glad U of M won!

It's funny how Notre Dame outplays/dominates teams for 95% of the game, then commits unforced errors: bobbled snaps under center, dropped passes when wide open, easy missed tackles, etc. and hands games over repeatedly to teams on a silver platter when they have the game won! never gets old!

Love the MSU fan that watches Michigan winning this game! I give credit to MSU for a great season, but as the season went on its obvious that MSU had its same mistakes every week while Michigan got better and better and better and better. If we played head to head right now...hmmmm. Next season should be great!

@Gvanmachineman I think that's actually right on the border of where a shoulder-block becomes a block in the back. That's not usually called, especially because Roundtree didn't use his hands.

The turnover at 7:16 basically summed up ND's system failure for this game. I remember thinking at halftime that the Irish would need to completely fall apart to allow Michigan to win and that's exactly what happened

@TheZooCrew thank you for your input. it was very helpful and really supplemented what i know about the attitude over at uofm (arrogant, boisterous, acting like you're better than everyone else, etc...) if you haven't noticed, i simply just really enjoy pushing "ThoseWhoStayUofM's" buttons, and college rankings is one of his major "clicks".

Not much to say besides "WOW!" I know it wouldn't have changed the outcome, but why weren't we awarded 6 points on the last kickoff? It looks pretty obvious to me we scored a touchdown.

Awesome play call at 9:09, but holy shit Vincent Smith's a beast. The horrible blocking almost ruined the play call, but he just made the Notre Dame players look silly.

Does anybody know of a good way to get a rip of the ESPN 3 (internet streaming) feed? I've found programs that record what plays on your screen but then I'd have to play the entire game without moving the mouse or doing anything else to make something pop up in front of the video. I really want a complete rip of the game without the bottom ticker as seen on ESPN 3.

I think all mich fans would agree with me on this statement: I would love the chance to play in the B1G Championship game with a chance to go to the Rose Bowl. If we didnt win then the capital one bowl against Georgia would be a fine second choice. Next time MSU fans, if you are in the position to play in the B1G Championship game, but are to afraid because of what bowl game you would get if you lost, then give your bid to play in the championship game to Michigan and sit on the couch and watch.

@steelersforlife777 what you seem to not be understanding about comparing this situation with the 2006 michigan vs. osu game is the difference between the regular season and the post season. the osu michigan game was the final "regular" season game, in which undefeated michigan lost their perfect "regular season" record. Michigan state went 10-2 in the regular season, but is considered 2nd in the big ten after a "post season" game against wiconsin.

@parkinggod Refs rule of thumb is if the player lands on his face its an obvious call, lands on his side or back, it's usually a judgement call. But hey, he was probably so excited watching the play happen he wasn't even looking at the block

@17DEMONHUNTER theres a difference between a typo and just flat out misusing a word... my typo was from me being tired and just typing carlessly, resulting in one slip of my finger, where as yours was you completely throwing out the wrong word. and it absolutely was blatant. you're trying to tell me that it's understandable for a ref to miss a call like that? everyone else saw it, why couldn't they?

This is my favorite football game of all time. But geeeeeeeez I forgot how bad Gary Gray was in this game, gotta be up there with worst games as a corner all time. Almost every single big play by Michigan was directly attributable to a mistake by #4 in gold.

@longlivestarscream the reason michigan's defense is ranked #7 is because they've played terrible offenses that can't score points (aka cupcake schedule). the only defensive stat that looks good for them is ppg. georgia's D however, is ranked 3rd in overall yards per game, 11th in passing yards allowed, and 17th in total rushing yards allowed, all while staking up 20 interceptions in the season. (all after playing lsu and boise state, 2 of the best offenses in the country)

@parkinggod it wasn't a muff, Collinsworth picked up the ball, had possession and then fumbled, Robinson picked it up but the ball was just inside the 1 when his knee was down, if it wasn't the last play and had it been reviewed it would've been Michigan ball inside the 1...

It's wonderful Michigan football is finally getting back on track after being in pretty bad shape for too long. I like it that Coach Hoke and his assistants are playing a way better brand of football than Bo Schembechler's horrible stodgy brand when he was around!

@dayday69 sure... that's why msu won... not the 8 sacks on denard, not the fact that michigan went 3-15 for third down conversions, and definitely not the fact that the only reason michigan stayed close in that game at all was because msu kept giving michigan their 3rd down conversions through lack of discipline by giving more penalty yards to michigan than they could get in rushing yards, even with the best scrambling qb in the conference. msu dominated that game, the stats prove it.

@kryer981 oh for sure! I mean last year's cocktail party was between 2 very mediocre teams that featured both teams trading a lot of scores, but there were still plenty of sloppy plays that day. Though still a great game, there was just something magical about the game and atmosphere on Saturday Night at the Big House.

id like to point something out to those who say denard cant throw and would be nothing if he couldn't run. he CAN run. if he ran a 5.3 40 he'd suck.. but heres the thing ..he doesnt run a 5.3 40. denard is a fantastic athlete who happens to have a strong arm, an unusually good passing ability for a guy that fast. he isn't andrew luck..so what?

@17DEMONHUNTER but the fact that you look at this game as an epic victory and a well played game on michigan's side says that you are a fan with a biased viewpoint. ill give you the holding calls that were missed, but regardless of whether or not #7 intentionally tangled up the receiver's feet, it was to the letter a legitimate pass interference call (accident or not).

@parkinggod It can only be a muff if the party call a fair catch, or if no one on ND touched the ball. This was clearly a fumble recovery and a touchdown at the end of the game. The only question would be if the ball crossed the goal before he was down. However I would say that it was and the fumble at the end of the run was caused by the ball hitting the ground inside the endzone.

@xHaterofHatersx I'm sorry, but since when is Denard equivalent to Michigan? Last I checked Denard was one of many members of the Michigan football team that is 6-0 right now. Michigan State isn't undefeated are they? Oh yea... they lost to Notre Dame. Not only did they lose, they were completely uncompetitive in that game. At least we were competitive. We won the game. MSU wasn't. It's not hard to sound smart when you are saying things that aren't completely idiotic. Try it some time.

@steelersforlife777 *continued* following the post season game against wisconsin, michigan state and wisconsin are now considered to be the #2 and #1 team in the conference. However, the broken system that is the BCS doesn't take the post season game into consideration, so it punishes the #2 team with a fresh loss and a drop in ranks, allowing the less deserving the #3 team to make a jump in the polls and buy the 2nd place trophy. the situations are completely different.

@17DEMONHUNTER trick/ gadget play: "Trick/Gadget plays are plays that are designed to appear to be one type of play while in reality is another." so... this category would include the draw play and the play action. the draw, sell as if you are going to pass to draw the lineman in, when in reality, it's a run play. the play action, sell the handoff to distract the defense and make them think you are running, when in reality the quarterback is dropping off to pass. tell me those arent trick plays.
