Actually Doug, the Land Cruiser hasn't died; the 300 Series is alive and well, sold everywhere else but the United States. You're just getting a LC Prado, which has been the “baby” LC since the 80s with the 70 Series, succeeded by the 90, 120, 150 and now the 250.

When the "back to basics" lowest tier model starts at $58,000 with cloth seats, we've missed the mark. Pricing on cars is beyond ridiculous and anyone who pays new car market price or MORE is a fool.

In Australia, the model reviewed here is called the LandCruiser Prado and will be arriving soon. We also have the new 300 series LandCruiser (3.3L V6 Diesel) and the more rugged 70 series (4.5L V8 Diesel) still for sale. All are incredibly popular here

I gotta say for my money I think the Land Cruiser is MUCH better looking than the new 4-runner. Full disclosure I've got my name down for a GX550 so I'm probably biased.

The lack of bloated body lines, extra screens, and interior fanfare is exactly what I’d want from a rugged Toyota SUV. The new 4Runners’ interior looks like a the fever dream of a 12-year-old Transformer fanboy. The Land Cruiser design language is more restrained and mature.

This is really just a modern FJ Cruiser.

I think it's more about the fact that some of these cars aren't available in all markets, for example in Saudi Arabia this land cruiser is called the Prado and there is a 300 series land cruiser that isn't sold in america but the 4Runner isnt available in saudi arabia, but there is a different car called the fortuner

I think the Land Cruiser is supposed to be more subtle. That's the whole point! No nonsense, just quality.

This isnt the real Land Cruiser, that is the LC300 which we get every where else in the world, this is the new Prado which is why there is all the confusion on the toyota line up

The Land Cruiser only came back like this in North America and Europe, every other country gets the actual full size Land Cruiser (the 300 series). You can get that with either a 3.3 turbodiesel V6, a 4.0 V6 (the same 1GR-FE as the outgoing 4Runner), and the same 3.5 twin turbo V6 as the LX600. BTW, the Lexus GX doesn't have a 4 cylinder engine, it has never used one.

The two headlight option harks back to the 60 Sereis Land Cruiser. Where it was offered (in Australia anyway) in circular headlights for the lower variants, and for the top of the range variant, a quad-rectangle headlights.

It doesn’t have a third row because of the hybrid battery. The 4Runners that have a third row are gas only and so is the Lexus GX. I will say, I actually like that it has vents in the back for dogs. And I like that it has cup holders and USB plugs if you are using the cargo area to camp, etc.

I much prefer it when doug films his videos outside instead of in the cab hq, it's a lot more engaging

The Prado always had a bonus of being able to be in low range without locking the centre diff...reversing boats or trailers or steep winding high grip scenarios it was always a brilliant feature.

There’s no third row because of the hybrid battery pack which raises the floor. Same with the 4 runner. You can get a third row but only if you opt for the non hybrid version of the 2.4 engine

This is a 250 series Land cruiser Prado which is a succesor to the 150 series Land cruiser Prado. And LC prados were never offered with a V8. The big daddy Land cruiser involes LC80 ,LC100, LC200 and LC300. You cannot compare a land cruiser prado with a land cruiser as prado is the smaller version of the land cruiser

I think the circle lights look AWESOME. Not that i don't like the new rectangular lights, but the circle lights are definitely my personal favorite.

Best memories of my childhood were riding in the boot of our dark green Opel Kadett Caravan (wagon). A tiny car by today's standards. It would have been nice to have USB ports back there, but my Tandy walkman (with 3-band radio and really fast winding, faster than your studio deck) didn't take a cable, it took 4x 1.2 V rechargeable batteries. I was "green" and "connected" before it was cool. I received radio stations multiple countries away with that walkman. All it took was a 5 meter headphone extension cable.

I love the trend of white roofs lately (harkening back to the 50s/60s, and more recently Minis and the Ford Flex) ... and I appreciate they gave it a proper transition detail, instead of the sloppy paint line seen on the Hyundai Venue. That car makes my eye twitch.

in Japan, the new land cruiser has the 3rd-row option, but only in the gas model, similar to the 4Runner. Since in the US, we got the hybrid-only model, the space for the 3rd-row is now the battery.

Canadian viewer here, the Land Cruiser nameplate hasn't been sold here since the mid-90's, only the Lexus LX counterpart has been available since then, so (at least, in my eyes) the Sequoia is the de facto replacement in its market segment, so now that the new one is on sale, in a different segment, it would be interesting to see how it fares here.

The new Land Cruiser is a handsome design. That 4Runner is just ridiculous. But to each their own. I get the point though. The two do seem to be stepping on each other’s toes.

This is a "Land Cruiser Prado" this model did not disappear anywhere, it was always produced in parallel with the flagship Land Cruiser (100, 200, 300), but was always smaller, cheaper and was always sold on the markets of European countries and other countries around the world. Hey Doug, Let me clear up your doubts. I'm from Colombia, so I know a thing or two about Toyotas. FORGIVE MY ENGLISH. The confusion lies in the names; the Toyota lineup that's just appeared in the States has always been around in my country, as well as in some others like Venezuela, the Emirates, Australia, or South Africa. The 4Runner is the 4Runner - just a fantastic car to take to the mountains or to haul your dogs in the cargo area (that's why I love it). Then, there's something more luxurious, better (personally, the 4Runner is better in any metric, but it's not my decision; it's the customers and markets). That better option is the Land Cruiser "Prado", one that has never been sold officially in the States, although I've seen some models in Florida and in cities close to the Canadian border. Something important to mention here is that Lexus do sell this "Land Cruiser Prado" under the brand GX. This Land Cruiser Prado is more expensive than the 4Runner and is the favorite in my country among politicians, artists, entrepreneurs, security teams, etc. It's an amazingly good and reliable car, and it also used to come (until this new Toyotas lineup) with a diesel engine, which made it more desirable due to the lower price of the fuel compared to gasoline. 4Runners, on the other hand, only come with gasoline engines, so they were cheaper to buy but more expensive to fuel. Now that this difference is gone, I don't know what is going to happen. At the top of the game was the Land Cruiser, not the Prado, just the Land Cruiser (300 series). That model was removed from the US but is still sold in other markets like, for example, Colombia, Venezuela, Emirate, Australia. We also have the Sequoia here, but that's not a popular model. I guess it was created to compete against the big American trucks in the 2000s, which is why it is so popular in North America but not in other markets of Toyota. Same happens with the Tundra, due to its high price, people usually gets the Tacoma instead, and if they really want to "save" and get the best Toyota truck, the buy the Hilux. Hope this helps. I've never understood why auto companies haven't jumped on hybrid diesel technology. Incredible mileage, great grunt for SUVs, and now nearly silent. Seems like the perfect fit.

Hi everyone. A bit of a difference regarding the Toyota line up in the US. In Europe we had 3 types of Land Cruiser. 1. The 70 series, still in production today, for some countries around the world. 2. The 90,120 and the current 150 series which in the state were called the Lexus GX (the smaller Land Cruiser) 3. The 80, 100, 200 and the current 300 series, also called the Lexus LX in the US. (The bigger Land Cruiser) They took away the large Land Cruiser from the US and brought the small one, because the larger was selling better in the Lexus LX version. In Europe we get both the Toyota and the Lexus versions of the Land Cruisers. Doug is also doing a comparison of this small version Land Cruiser with his old 200 series which was the larger version, which is why he is so confused of the current line up

I totally get the "positioning". Its more subdued and adult. I like the new top spec 4Runner, especially the performance suspension. But now in my mid 40s, this is what I want. Something more adult, and classic looking. Plus NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS A 40 INCH SCREEN! I much prefer the LCs smaller screen. Its all the benefits of the new 4Runner in a more sedate look. I do wish the Trailer Hunter suspension was available tho

I’m really excited for this. I’ve got an aging 4th gen 4R looking to be replaced. I was looking for something with full time 4wd and better mpg, so this fits the bill. And I also love the design.

There is no Sequoia or 4Runner in Europe/UK. The Land Cruiser is the only 4x4 by toyota here. Sequoia and 4Runner are US only model (someone correct me). The Land Cruiser is the Toyota 4x4 for the rest of the World. And the rest of the world is indeed very pleased to have Land Cruiser back.

26:55 That's the thing-you can. Because the Land Cruiser 300 series (which the rest of the world gets) has that Sequoia V6. In place of the 300 series, you guys got the Lexus LX 600 instead. And I kinda expected you to call that vehicle back in this vid knowing you've reviewed the LC 300 before lol The reason why this "Land Cruiser" is slotted with the 4Runner and the GX is because it isn't the actual big ball Land Cruiser you guys know and love. This is the Land Cruiser Prado (or the 250 series.) and it has always been the Lexus GX ever since the 120 series. The Prado is also the "light duty" series of the flagship LC, and has always been slotted with the 4Runner ever since it became a Tacoma-based SUV as opposed to the first two generations which were based on the Hilux/Pickup.

The last 3 videos on Doug's channel are all about large toyota SUVs, one of which is revealing the purchase of his Sequoia. This tells us a lot about Doug as a guy and about how Toyota are killing it right now.

One quirk Doug missed is the hybrid badge. Toyota is changing the hybrid badge to a blue circle. I first saw this badge on the next generation Camry Hybrid.

I think the reason doug stopped doing promos at the beginning of each video is that you couldnt press the 0 key anymore.

I Live in a country where both vehicles from prev gen are being offered (LandCruiser 150 prado and 5th gen 4runner) and I can tell you this: 4runner is more adventurer and try to be more aggresive than the LC, normally the comfort equipment is worse than the LC but the price is lower. The LC is more daily usable, polyvalent and comfy with better equipment, higher price but the offroading capabilities are equivalent in both cars. So basically the overlanders/off road enthusiast will prefer the 4runner and the people who wants a capable, reliable and easy to use off road vehicle to use it as a grocery getter will go with the LC. Anyway if you put both vehicles in the same trail, most probably both of them will be able to cross it with no problem at all.

Not everything has to be 3 row. It's good to have a 2 row option.

Im going to go out on a limb here and say they that they do more durability and endurance testing with the Land Cruiser name plate, thats probably where the extra cost comes from. I could be wrong though. I don't really care for three rows, the lack of a 3rd row is a bonus for me.

In Costa Rica the new land cruiser is being launched for sale this weekend and its only available with 3rd row seating, so the space and folding seat capabalities are there but it will probably change by market

3rd row is only available without the hybrid power train… The battery sits behind the second row right where the “phantom 3rd row” would be…

For about the same price, I would definitely go with a base GX550 with the 3.4L twin turbo V6 over a 4 cyl hybrid LC. Land Cruiser $63,345 | GX550 Premium $64,250

I'm sure it's annoying to read the comments but the sound (half the video) is so much better when these are filmed outdoors. Please, spend the same money you did on lighting and camera equipment on sound deadening and or diffusing panels. Half of the video is sound and you're just ignoring it. I would pick the LC over the 4runner. I assume the LC hybrid would give you an edge in MPG over the 4runner and lexus versions. If Toyota offered the 4runner with a manual, then I would pick it. Having a 3rd row is nice, but we rarely use them and they are not comfortable.

3rd Row Seats are available on Japanese Market Land Cruisers of this generation. I've seen video reviews at the Tokyo Motor Show showing the extra row of seats.

I am glad there is no third row of seats pushed on us by default. It would have been good to give it as an option though. I prefer the LC over the 4Runner.

Doug, at the beginning of your video, you presented the differente generations of LC. However, you should have specified, those are the lines that only came up to the US. The actuall succesor of the 2010 200 Series is the 300 series, which has been around in the global market since last year, and its Lecus homologation. Now, the one you are presenting here, is the LC 250 series, successor of the LC 120 Series, which is the successor of the 90 series, which is the successor of the LC II or 70 Series. After the 70 Series, LC split its line into the full size LC 80 Series, and later on a medium Since 90 Series, also known as Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, in other countries. This one in your video, is the newest Prado, the newest full size LC is the 300 series. Also in Lexus, this homologation, the Lexus GX 550, its the succesor of the 460, which is the successor of the 470. While the Lexus LX670 its the successor of 570, which is is followed by the 470. So Toyota never "killed" that line. It was only discontinued in the US.

In Europe we get de round headlights only on the "FIRST EDITION" LC which is strictly limited to 3000 vehicles and they will be fully loaded. So the opposite of "entry level"...

Some people don't care about EV, or FSD, they just prefer to drive.........

The Land Cruiser is the new 4 runner limited. The 4 runner is all different versions of the TRD Pro now. The Land Cruiser is the more comfy slightly more luxury street version of the 4 runner. Using the JZX models as comparison. I know, but hear me out. The GX is the Mark II, the Land Cruiser is the Cresta, the 4 Runner is the Chaser. They all have their intended market.

Just to be clear, This is called the Toyota Prado Land Cruiser. Its well known around us in the middle east. Its like the small brother of the original Land Cruiser (80 series, 100 series, 200 Series, 300 Series). It doesn’t originally come with V8s even the earlier models(2023 & below). Only V6s. After discontinuing the Land Cruiser 300 series in the US, this is a replacement of the 300 Series but its called Land Cruiser instead of Prado.

Is perfect. 4runner owners are way different than Land Cruiser owners. So why not have the same category SUV with different name and design. I prefer the 4Runner. And for the money of the Land Cruiser just pay bout $5k more and get the Lexus with the V6

Toyota is japanese quality as its finest. The reliability. That is what makes me a Toyota fan. American cars or european cars isn't as good as Toyota regarding reliability and they're affordable (which Audi, BMW, Mercedes isn't).

I can provide some light on why it exists. In Australia, Toyota has always had two Land Cruiser models. There is the big, top of the line, full fat Land Cruiser (100 series, 200 series etc) which is what Doug recently owned. Second to this, we always had a smaller, cheaper model called the Land Cruiser Prado (90 series, 150 series). When they stopped producing the 200 series, they stopped selling the full fat Land Cruiser in America. In Australia, they just released a new, full fat Land Cruiser called the 300 series. This car that Doug is reviewing is the new Land Cruiser Prado in Australia, ie it’s the baby brother to the big new 300 series. The new 300 series is the replacement of Doug’s old car. Both models are very popular in Australia as not everyone needs the big expensive full fat model! In America they bought back the Land Cruiser name but it’s actually the smaller cheaper model. It makes sense for us in Australia too because we don’t get the Sequoia or 4 Runner!

I don't know what happend to Doug and I know every time someone writes any type of comment regarding his new behavior he mocks it and usually he is right, but to say that 4 runner is not even trying and looks better then land cruiser, when it is definitely design for teens and early 20s guys and Land Cruiser for more mature people is really weird, this weird behavior started for me when reviewing sp3 when you didn't even show pop-up head lights which could and should be a quirk of the year, I don't know if you lost that much of interest in videos and got bored but quirks are at the low these days, it's just reviews which are great but no passion and excitement to be honest.

My guess on the market position is that Land Cruiser is to 4Runner as Venza is to Rav4, Avalon/Crown is to Camry, or Prius is to Corolla hybrid. (This assumes this thing is more mature and has higher-quality materials in it than the 4Runner.) Toyota knows a lot of people, not just in Japan but also in the US, just want a "nice Toyota" rather than to step up to a Lexus, let alone consider something like a lower-spec Defender.

It doesn't need the gimmicks its a work truck. My parents business has a 150 series with almost 700k km and it's still going.

What I'd love to know is how Honda manages to have an absolutely MASSIVE trunk in the Ridgeline and no other models have it, even within their own lineup. Aside from other companies, the Pilot is built on the same frame... why doesn't it have the same trunk space as the Ridgeline? Having a lot of extra, lockable, non visible space in a vehicle is a hugely beneficial feature.
