After seeing early previews of the simulated sounds at a standstill, I was audibly laughing at Hyundai for the nonsense. But I must admit, after hearing it in drive and seeing the admittedly impressive fake shifts complete with realistic power climbs and cuts, I must say this gives me hope for the future of enthusiast electric cars. Truly seems to be heading in the right direction!

Remember it's 601 hp to the wheels at all time not crank, let that sink in. Most of us never experienced that kinda of power and tork so we won't understand how fast the acceleration feels

Does not make 600whp its crank . Runs a low 11 if it made that kind of power it would be a mid to low 10 second car . Its now a good bit slower than say a new model 3 performance making “510”hp but def a cool option for sure

I'm a gas head. I rather have gas than electric. I'm a fill up and go type of guy, not a plug up and wait an hour type of guy and plus I have a taste in looks and I have yet to see any electrics vehicles that caught my attention and have me saying "I like that"

@@TheDrivingJunkieIt doesn’t take an hour to fast charge the Ioniq 5, I was at 12% yesterday and went to fast charge, in 16 minutes I was at 80%. It’s not that bad, especially if you have a home charger. I drive my i5 and save my V8 gas guzzlers for the fun weekend trips 🤷🏾‍♂️

I should have mentioned it but the 1 hour was exaggeration but still, electric vehicles aren't my type and I rather stick with gas and electric cars don't offer some things that I like in my cars like a manual transmission and the engine roar on start up.

I love the N Shift sound or whatever it's called that it makes! It's interesting how when standing still and you rev it, it kinda sounds like a PS1 game sound but when you're actually moving, it sounds realistic enough that if you're going over 120mph, this would make for a good audible cue to understand when you brake and when you lift off oversteer!! Love that!

NGL, I was very skeptical at first about if I was going to like the Ioniq5 and its whole FAKE ENGINE AND BURBLE sounds, and if it would have the same feel as having a real gas powered car, but boy was I wrong, it looks a ton of fun, it has all of the features, and I feel like they're not trying to make it something that its not, but also something that's not just a regular EV like most other EV's. Which is why I feel like I'm more inclined to buy something like this, then other EV's on the market.

I'm glad the volume of the fake sounds has so much bandwidth. I just wish it didn't sound quite so... pixelated, if you will. It's like there are discrete steps up and down the "rev" range that it simulates rather than a continuous range of revs.

probably the processing power of the unit controlling the sound is quite slow to run higher quality samples with proper mixing in real time so they decided to go with a basic sound

Session 1 lap time (timestamp: 2:13 - 3:58) is around a 1:45 which is a pretty quick lap time at Laguna Seca! That's bordering advanced fast class depending on the track day organizer.

Not sure if this was already asked/answered, but how is the power above 80ish mph? Watching the speedo I feel like I see the usual single or dual motor feature of a higher speed drop off. I guess follow up question would be whether the fake gears alleviate any of it? EDIT: I noticed less of such drop off when you’re in sprint mode/NGB

I love how seriously Hyundai takes their N division. It'd be far easier to just make the N version a suspension ,tires, and brakes package, but they went the distance in making these cars actually perform. That said, i can't wait until EV makers stop doing the fake engine noise thing and the fake shifting.

If you're going to make fake shifts and noise, make them good. Car of this class would be good with a warm v6 sound, like hot hatches of old. Also add V12 just for laughs.

Certainly a very cool vehicle. I don't know if I'd buy it though because without a charger at the track, very very close by, or you are going to transport it on a truck you likely aren't going to get much time out of it. The one I go to, I go through about 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 tanks of fuel in about 1 hour and 45 minutes of driving. I don't see an EV coming anywhere near that amount of time.

They should do a r-spec like they used to.. So many of us could never afford this.. Just sell a regular ioniq 5, racaro seats, real steel lowing springs, no fake sounds, take some luxuries away and make it lighter.. have the batteries from this work lowered range to get it lighter.. ten grand cheaper then regular ioniq.. it would sell like gang busters..

4:58 Leaving pit row: odometer 231 - 142 miles estimated battery remaining - 78% battery remaining. 17:43 Cool down lap: odometer 246 - 77 miles estimated battery remaining - 46% of battery left. So in 15 miles you went through 1/3 of the battery and almost ½ of the estimated battery miles remaining. That is some serious consumption.

The main objective of Hyundai's N sector is ultimately "fun", and that is why they put fake noise or simulated gear things that are supposed not to exist (actually "opposing to the concept") in EV -- they are making driver engage more. Of course, I still think they need to offer customized noise tuning SDK/toolkits (since they have speakers controlled by software) though.... Currently all the sounds are pre-made and fake-ish, which is not very fun but funny.

Owned a 2020 VZ 2022 EN 2022 KN and a 2023 EN This car is neat love the tech and detail but EV just is not worth it at this price. These cars and almost all EV plummet in value the second you pull of the lot especially Hyundai /Kia let alone good luck for service and repair downtime. The cost of actual ownership is truly a throw away luxury for the 1% that can afford it so not sure how it fits into the affordable N brand of Hyundai's IMO buy a mustang or hellcat and keep some resale value with the same fun.

This is a performance car and real performance cars don't have super heavy glass roofs. I have the step down powertrain in the EV6, the GT-Line like the I5 limited, and those trim levels have the luxuries.

@@DanielBrownOre I get it, the glass roof would be heavier… on - let's be real - an already heavy vehicle. The vision roof option is available in every other continent + the HUD for the 5N features an N-specific track design. Also, the EV6 GT (not just the GT-line) still has a sunroof.

@@OrionDC It's the weight UP HIGH that hurts handling/can add body roll, not the weight itself, real enthusiasts know this, but of course on an EV with 1050lbs under the floor, you do stay planted nicely, hehe... But, most enthusiasts who actually track/auto-x just don't want sunroofs in general, just what it is for whatever reason, I personally love mine!

I like the 1st fake sound but the others sucked. Love the upgraded looks exterior much more boy racer but muted enough to fool people. Wheel arches and snowflake wheels look great. I wish more car designers at Hyundai would go with interiors like the N's. The regular ioniq 5 has a terrible stearing wheel design and makes me vomit, but this one looks great, it has purposeful buttons and much better high end classy design. Face it if you own one you'll be sitting behind that wheel for a while, it better look and feel nice.

I honestly hope these "engine sounds" (especially the first one) are meant to be either A) a nod to '00s Game Boy Advance racing games, or B) a joke on how engine sounds are unnecessary in a vehicle. Otherwise, I can't believe how a whole team of people listened to that, thought "Yeah, this emulates an ICE perfectly and sounds cool" and green lit it into a production car. Did someone explain to them what an engine sounds like via typewritten letters? The most boring engine sound I've ever heard was Dacia's 0.9 TCe, but I'd rather listen to that forever than this thing. Atrocious.

I think they genuinely tried, but it’s probably hard to properly implement an engine sound. For the first attempt on this it’s not horrible. Id like to see how it will be in a few years from now. If an ev can ACCURATELY mimic a i5 or v10 that would be an instant buy for me later on 🤣🤣

@@3d4f5g6h The algorithm (in other words, the way the "rpms" match the pace of the car, acceleration, etc.) was very likely challenging to make. On that, we can both agree. There's no excuse for the sound they chose, though. I know that they were trying to evade copyright by avoiding using other manufacturer's sounds, but they could've easily used their own Tau V8's sound (the one the Equus had). This was an awful first attempt. BMW did it right: proper sounds, by someone who knows what he's doing (Hans Zimmer).

@thearousedeunuch to each their own. But there's a big difference to playing a video game. The sensations of g forces along with the sound and the "gear changes " will add to the experience of the speed. And in traffic you can turn them off and be an electric car. Great duality

Despite the really cool tech, I think I would rather have the new Model 3 Performance, especially for the cost and available tax credit. If I was in the market for a performance minded EV anyway. Not there yet.

@@Chris-hw4mq I don't know anyone arguing global warming isn't happening. The argument is to what extent humans are responsible and whether it's a global emergency. I think it's mainly a tool used for political power and expediency. Piling on more national debt and ppl dying in poor countries from our reaction to global warming is much more problematic than the warming itself. Technological advancements will solve the issue before it's ever a serious threat to humanity anyway. We already have the technology to scub the atmosphere if it ever came to that.

Still don't understand who actually likes fake noise. Knowing it's fake ruins everything. What's next? Emulating driving itself? Will there be a simulation to make you feel like you're driving while your robotaxi is doing it all?

These fake sounds in EV's are for the purpose of making the transition a little easier for the people who have a hard time adjusting. There will eventually come a time when gas engines are such a distant relic of the past that these artificial sounds will no longer be a thing.
