The younger guy smiles back and they forged a great friendship. They were each other's best man at their weddings. I saw them at the hockey game tonight and had a nice chat with them. Good couple of dudes.

Wonderfully unsettling, otherworldly and nerve-jangling stuff ! Great, no reliance on the mainstays of horror, just a creepy narrative, both actors very good, to fit this in such a short running time and have that kind of impact in just brilliant ! Keep making films !!!

The creepy part of this for me is the fact that you wouldn't really be prepared for anything like this. I feel like I would just freeze up, because it's such a bizarre situation.

Imagine the guy running at you, and out of panic you run full speed back at him, then both of you just face plant into eachothers faces.

This was EXCELLENT!!! It's literally EXACTLY like the story. the performances were spot on!

The creepiest part about this and others like it is the fact that it makes no sense. It shouldn’t be happening but it is, and this adds to the confusion of whether you should fight or flee. For years and years since I was a kid, every Sunday evening at 6:40 pm I would suddenly feel a sense of doom with extreme anxiety and panicked paranoia with a feeling like I was both everywhere and nowhere. I got to where I’d deliberately force myself to be asleep during that hour. Never did figure it out and watching this brought back those incidents even though I haven’t had this issue in over a decade now.

Every few months or so ill randomly get a nightmare about this situation. Every time i do, this short's soundtrack always accompanies it, and i find myself running with the same blaring sirens echoing in my mind. I dont know what it is about this short's soundtrack that just unsettles me so much, but if it's able to become the OST of my literal nightmares, it has done its job tenfold.

The sound and clip of the smiling man sprinting at the protagonist always gives me that nasty gut drop feeling. It's just so unnerving.

Oh man, this is based on one of my favourite urban legends, and it reeeally captures the essence of everything that makes it scary. HOOOOOO BOY this is a good one, CHILLS. CHILLS I TELL YA.

This is like perfect creepy horror , no need for massive jumpscares

The part that makes this scary for me is the fact that the smiling man never directly looks at the main character until the end either. He stares at something vaguely above him. For the entire video, you’re waiting for him to lock eyes with the MC or even us (the audience), but his face is just tilted slightly out of reach. It adds to the horror aspect, since a lot of the time, the “monster” in these horror stories usually stares directly at the viewer to make *us* feel like we’re in a helpless situation with the MC. But in this, we kind of want the smiling man to just look at us so we can see some form of humanity within him. But the moment he does, you can’t make out any details on his face because it’s shielded by that manic smile and the lighting. It gives you more of the illusion that the smiling man isn’t a “man”, and more of just a thing that’s pretending to be a man but doesn’t look quite right.

The best off hand story of all time. And I don’t even know who created it. This short movie is fucking glorious. The footsteps picking up the second he turns around still give me the heebies even tho I expect it.

Even so many years later that scene where he begins to "sneak walk" to the guy like he doesn't want to be spotted even though he is clearly visible still gives me goosebumps

Normally you would laugh at that kind of cartoonish sneaking. But when you're alone in the night on an empty street and followed by a weird smiling man looking up in the sky, it suddenly becomes very scary. Especially since it resembles a zombie walking.

My theory: They go to the same dance class and smiling man just can't take the hint that hoodie guy doesn't want to be his dance partner.
