you should use an auger drill and wooden nails. but it will also weaken the plank. if you drill 20 holes the plank will be weakened.

I did with my uncle and cousins we would go out deep in the woods and my uncle taught us boys what to eat and what not to eat plus we went fishing and hunting catch clean and cook all our own foods it was so much fun and sometimes spooky but I loved it.

These boys were raised by wolves when their folks were eaten by bears. They were only babes. Captured at 15, government forced them to go to school. Sad they never learned to speak and can only make grunts, hoops & hollers. They found they had some cash put away for em and tried to make it in the big city for a while but it was not to be. The call of the wild was too strong. Now they spend their time looking for the bear that ate their folks and the wolf pack that they call brothers.

Dang son ! Looks as though you're homesteading building a cabin.. Rather than camping... When I was a Youngster family went camping in a local Swamp .. we walked into the Swamp area.. a mile away .. Sheet of plastic on the ground.. Bed roll on top of that... and pulled the plastic up over our heads ... very extreme camping, fishing , and cooking...

As a 12 year old I spent most of my time fishing and hunting around False Island, AK. And sometimes it was up a tree waiting for a bear to leave,little did I know I was just meat on a stick. The same realization came about the Orca pod in the channel, only it was years later watching a wildlife show and a orca took a deer right off the Rocks! Good thing they didn't want my boney back End! The brown bears we would see occasionally during winter were far more dangerous, because they were awake and hungry!

Blackbears generally run away from humans, as long as you don’t do stupid things to lure them in…like leave food out….we’re not on their menu, it’s the grizzlies you have to worry about

Half the Alaskan bear attacks ARE caused by black bears. But continue your tree house gimmick if you will Electric fences are a much easier solution.
