5th degree burns are when the skin burns off, most of the muscle layer burns off, and there's a good chance there's exposed charred bones

If I understand Star Wars lore correctly, a lightsaber can deflect blaster bolts because of magnetic fields repulsing each other. Conventional projectiles like bullets (called “slugthrowers” in the Star Wars universe), on the other hand, would at most melt or split when contacting the saber blade, which would continue their trajectory to the intended target. 12:07 helps explain why this is, which I found nice to know 😊. I remember reading how, despite being considered antiquated in-universe, slugthrowers were still used in the Old Republic era for bounty hunters who tracked saber users like Jedi or Sith.

Actually how are you guys able to make a real lightsaber fully in the hilt? With our technology, you will hv to reload the saber in every 15 seconds. The laminar flow in vacuum will loose its shape in vacuum because in atmospheric conditions, air pressure is helping to keep the shape of the blade. The blade will expand as it leaves the nozzle if the saber is used in vacuum. Also, it is likely that the saber will loose pressure if fired in vacuum and the combustion will not be continuous, so a chamber is needed. Anyways, always support what u guys do. What ninjafruit means is that metal will let heat transfer to something else a lot faster than gas will, so your hand will receive much more energy from a hot metal pan compared to an equally hot moving gas.

Actual, if you time your touch, you won't burn. Your brain takes like ~0.5s to register pain, so by the time you feel the pain, your hand is already burnt. That's why "accidentally" touch hot things can burn you and "purposefully" touch it won't.

Leidenfrost Effekt, I absolutely love it. Works with Lava too. You could slap hot molten metal for example away too, aslong as non sticks to your hand you wont get any burns. Don't try it of course, because.. obviously a piece can get stuck somewhere and then you'll have massive burn wounds. But it works.

Blasters would technically be a different story. Considering Lightsabers have an extremely "solid" blade of plasma, they would likely use magnetic force to shape the blade. This magnetism could probably be configured to keep their specific blade of plasma contained, while repelling other sources of plasma, like a blaster.

Yes their is such thing as a 5th degree burn: Fifth-degree burn injuries occur when all the skin and subcutaneous tissues are destroyed, exposing muscle. These burns can be fatal due to damage to major arteries and veins. Fifth-degree burn injuries also may require amputation due to damage to muscles. If amputation is not needed, skin grafting will be required.

Star Wars lightsabers in contact with a material make a crackling sound which indicates an electrical or static discharge. If the blade was a column of electrons or protons in a laminar flow which could maintain conductivity between particles, the light of the saber would be the photons created by the visible spark between particles. Because the electrons or protons are smaller than the molecules of steel, they would theoretically be able to disrupt or melt steel at the molecular level.

If we can make a lightsaber with a razor thin heat blade for cutting instead of a thick area and then illuminate the blade around it, then we can get both effects we want. Would be more energy efficient too. Maybe the blade would be so efficient at heat transfer it slices through air in some cool way staying straight(prob not tho)

I think it is possible to make a "light" saber (kinda?) near future. A few years back, I think it was 2014, a type of cobalt salt was made that absorbs oxygen, and can also release it. Trouble is that it is heat activated, dangerous, and an emergent technology. I honestly thought we would see it used for diving equipment first.

I'm not sure if I understood what he was saying about the realism about cutting through things instantly the right way, but it is possible based on how hot a lightsaber blade actually is. Aren't they like hotter than the sun? If that's the case, then that would make it pretty believable to be able to instantly cut through everything, as long as there's some sort of technology to protect everything around the blade from instantly burning. Edit: Just saw the part where he talked about the blade needing to be hotter than the sun to instantly cut through things. I'm leaving this here because it still sounded like he was saying heat transfer wasn't a thing in the movies.

@@theHacksmith First, genuinely surprised about the reply - especially a year after the video was uploaded, so good job on your part. Second - and yeah, I guess that makes sense - at least for most materials. It feels like even the temp of the sun should be enough to instantly cut a few things, but that's not what I'm studying. I guess even if we ever got the tech to get the blade to even a fraction of that temp, the problem of igniting the blade without the "side effects" would be the main obstacle of creating a lightsaber

Fun Fact about Star Wars: During the Mandolorian-Jedi wars, Mandolorians used weapons more closely related to irl guns. When Jedi would try to reflect them the bullets would explode on contact with the lightsaber, causing metal to fly directly in the Jedi’s face.

Being brittle is a bad thing here, it means it’d break very easily upon contact, which is bad news for saber to saber combat. I think the word you were looking for is durable, hence the “dura” in “dura-steel” lol. Brittle is similar to fragile, the opposite of durable!

lets be honest, the "batteries" used in lightsabers are just very small fusion reactors because of how much heat they have. If they had fusion reactors, they would have enough heat to reach around 23 million degrees. it would also supply enough power to make the forcefield that makes the lightsaber, a saber not just a shit ton of plasma in every direction.

Star Wars Canon fact: during the mando-Jedi war, the mandalorians began using regular guns that shot metal projectiles because when the Jedi deflected the energy bolts from blasters, they deflected the blasts, but the metal bullets just shattered and sent the metal into the Jedi. So check one for Star Wars physics there.
