Of course there is also the problem with the serial ports on the RTL8720 BW16. The one connected to the ch341-uart converter is not the one used for flashing. So you either have to connect the two serial ports with wires, or use a different converter on the second port. The combination of button presses to get it into flash mode seems to be a problem on some boards (hold reset, press burn, release reset, release burn), but it works for me. Arduino gives you a countdown to start the procedure.

The problem with using a hotplate alone to do SMD solder is that sometimes you need so much heat that you get discolouration or burn the board. I like a hot plate to preheat the board and then hot air to target the component.

You're right, but if we are talking about doing things on the cheap, what you are suggesting is probably going to be quite a bit pricier. You mentioned a few videos ago possibility for using 20v Lidl battery packs. As a fellow Ham, to use a 4A pack and convert to 13.8v output would make a good project. Using a switch mode regulator for higher efficency but with low line RF noise being the ideal solution. Add the possibility to parallel a 2nd battery pack for 8A and it would make a neat and low cost portable 13.8v supply. To recharge the packs Lidl sell a dual charger at low cost.
@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 2 роки тому
A possible solution. But instead I use a simpler one: A LiFePo4 battery without and conversion. You get them in various sizes and the overall solution would probably be cheaper than the Lidls plus strong buck converters. An advantage could be that we could produce a stable 13.8 volt. The 4 cells LiFePo4 quite fast are below 13 volts which, with some radios, does no more yield in full power.
@32_bits
@32_bits 2 роки тому
@@AndreasSpiess Your suggestion for a LiFePo4 is a good one but is more expensive and not as much fun as making a Lidl solution. Do you have any pointers / thoughts for selecting a low RFI and low line noise converter for 18v to 13.8v at 10 amps? Btw the Lidl dual charger is 15 Euro's, it has separate battery connectors + PCB and battery status display PCB inside so will make a perfect rugged project case, after the 240v PCB is removed. With 2 x 4Ahr batteries at 50 Euros /pair, it will provide around 144Whr. The batteries could be easily changed once depleted for a fresh set in the field.
@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 2 роки тому
So far I never had to deal with so strong regulators. But I assume you have to invest some money to get the RFI out. At least this is what I did for my 13.6 volt server power supply feeding my shack.

The OPA549 has a peak drive current of 10A and a constant of 8A Andreas, I wonder if that heatsink is underrated for the job? I was only looking at that very op amp a couple of days ago to see how things have changed over the years... quite a lot.
@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 2 роки тому
I agree. But it seems to be limited to 6A on the board. Concerning heatsink: It probably will get active cooling. The dissipated power depends on the supply vs output voltage (the difference has to be dissipated). The datasheet has a diagram where you see that you sometimes get much less power that the 6A. At least it seems that the chip is protected.

Will the power meter work if one has a rapidly changing DC voltage where the current is not necessarily in phase with the voltage. For example if a DC power supply feeds a rapidly switching mosfet (20 kHz). With such an arrangement, my DC power supply indicates that the circuit is drawing a significant amount of power when there is no load and nothing heats up.

Seems interesting to have a 5Ghz wifi: it arrived last week and I'll give a try. The other board has a more complex history to me: it happened that I bought an Arilux led controller which I planned to flash with Tasmota. Unfortunatelly, and unlike the other ones bought before, it came with Bouffalo BL602 risc V chip. So, I commented to the tasmota group and they refused to start any development for that chip because the poor software support (I agree). I also bought a development board, but I also skipped doing anything with this chip because there is only one port and because the benefits in cost will be visible on a large scale, not at a maker scale.

What does "No Docker, No Microsoft Teams, Zoom" mean ?
@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 2 роки тому
Nothing for the viewer. It is for Google.

@@AndreasSpiess I had the same question. Why not explain it with the following (or similar) verbiage, "Viewers: please ignore the following, it is for Google... No Docker, No Microsoft Teams, Zoom". I don't mean to come across as persnickety (unnecessarily critical) but, frankly as it stands now the text is utterly bizarre.

What if the thief uses a iphone himself? Is he warned because an airtag is following him?
@AndreasSpiess
@AndreasSpiess 2 роки тому
Yes, you are right. If the Airtag is not marked as „lost“ you see it on your iPhone. For example I always got a warning that the airtag on my wife’s bike is following me…
