In this video, we will show you five CNC project ideas that you can make/sell and what bits we used to make them! All of these items are relatively easy to make and can be cut with basic CNC bits. If you aren't interested in designing them yourself these files will be available for purchase on our website! Thanks for watching! If you have any other great CNC project ideas post them in the comments for others to see!

I'm used to larger, corded routers ukposts.infoUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.

@TwoMooseDesign
@TwoMooseDesign Рік тому
Thanks! I try to keep them In a decent price range so most people can sell them, it can’t be hard to justify the price of things take take an hour plus to carve. I mostly use walnut, cherry, maple, and mahogany.
@rRobertSmith
@rRobertSmith Рік тому
The bookholders are going for $3.95 on Esty so even if you find some customers at $3.50 and clear a dollar each that is $1 for 10 minutes of machine time $6 and hour does not seem like a doable return. I am not very good at math but even with free labor and very low lumber prices none of these seems like it could make any money even if you shipped a 100 at a time to a distributor (also bit costs!). The tablet holder same story (but probably slightly better margins), so when I watch people saying this could be a product I price it out on Esty and work backwards on what the gross margin would be and if it is less that $10 an hour I kill the project.

What cut speed and depth did you use for these? I bought your files and use Easel. I don't see where there's an option to add a bowl & tray bit to the mix either. Would you recommend moving to Vetrics?
@TwoMooseDesign
@TwoMooseDesign Рік тому
Hey Tom! For easel run the bowl bit as a 3/4 end mill. You’ll have to make a custom option. For speeds and feeds it’s hard to tell you without knowing what machine you have. Vectric is great! It’s pricey but has a lot more options than easel. Easel is fine for starting out I still use it for some stuff.

For the journeyman run the .75 bowl but at 100 speed .1 depth and 15 step down if you ramp then step down you can do like 40. Set your rpm’s around 14000 rpm’s or 3? I think on the makita. Pro-tip.. use a down-cut bits to avoid tear-outs on your work. No one told me this when I got my first CNC and all of the bits that don't specify down-cut are ALL upcut bits and the upcut bits are horrible. They leave tear out everywhere. I bought a bunch with my first CNC and spent hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong only to find out it was the type of bit that I was using. To me, this is a deceptive practice in the industry. Not specifying when a bit is up-cut and only specifying when it is a down cut is deceptive. Also, See-peel-ee not See-peel-aye. 😉

I only use upcut bits and have no problem. Were you using upcut bits with conventional cutting?

@@bojangles5226 Down cut bits specifically cut with a downward motion to avoid chipping fibers of the wood. So if you are using an upcut bit and not chipping out, more power to you. We are talking endmill bits here btw.

@@Theexplorographer yes, I'm aware. I run standard 2-4 flute end mills depending on the type of work, all up cut climb cutting. The only time upcut gets me is on plywood but I rarely cut it.

Spray them with water, wait for them to dry, sand them. Repeat 2-3 times and then add oil

I like these products but I wonder what they would sell for and consequently whether they would make much profit. For example, the salad servers took 10 mins of shaping with further sanding and finishing required. Assuming this can be done while another set is machined you could maybe make 3 pairs in an hour including machine setup, periodic clean up etc. In the UK something similar sells for £15 so your revenue, per hour might be £45. Out of that you have to deduct the cost of the wood, oil finish, replacement tooling and costs of selling. I cannot imagine making the hooks for a profit. The trivets perhaps need little post machining work but looking on Google it looks like they would not be high value.

Not every product will have huge profit margins. When i started, I would sell items that i didnt make much on but it got products in peoples hands and they loved it and would typically come back and buy higher dollar items. You can easily sell the utensils for $20 each especially if you put names or sayings on them. People pay for customization especially if its a gift they will splurge and spend a little more. Some items you would need to make a large batch to make it worth it. Also I make all of these smaller items out of scraps that have already been paid for by other customer builds, I have piles of small chunks of wood all over.

Very nicely done… What size TABS do you guys use for the wood on the CNC… I like the quick masking take with superglue…

I typically just run the stock tabs. If you use the “double sided tape” you don’t really need them
