With tris to quads, you can also open up the little black menu that appears with operators and change both angle limits to 180. That way it'll remove often a bunch more tris that it would otherwise skip.

Another addition when you're lost in the node abyss, just press the [ HOME ] key and it'll show the overview of all the nodes. Works great if you're zoomed in on a large network of nodes and wanted to see everything without scrolling a lot of times.

If you have median point as transform pivot, you can select the bottom face or vertices of an object for example and setting the cursor to selection will place it perfectly in the midde. Useful if you wanna set the origin quickly and in the right place.

Hi! In regards to moving the 3d cursor. What I usually do is go into edit mode, select one or more verts, edges or faces, and then click shift+s and use cursor to selected. Then the cursor will move to the select vert,edge or face or in the middle of those that you have selected. Much quicker and more precise :)

A few more tips to change your life as well, stache: 1- Forward Slash (/): Hide all BUT selected and focus camera on selected. This is a toggle, meaning hit it again to bring everything else back exactly as it was. It's also viewport independent, so you can do this to one viewport without affecting the others. This is incredibly useful when modelling or sculpting with many pieces, but is also useful when tweaking animation in a crowded scene. 2- Numpad Period. Center viewport around object. Try it. Also works in the shader editor, so when you lost your nodes: A then Numpad Period to center the editor around all nodes. 3- Regarding the 3D cursor: Select multiple points then set cursor to selected, and the cursor will go in the center of all selected points. I use this to precisely rig finger bones a lot. In otherwords, loop select that tree and the origin can be centered that easily.

at 6:20, there is a way faster method to move the 3D cursor exactly where you want: mesh>snap>cursor to selected. so in this tree example, you could tab into edit mode, select that edge loop at the base of the trunk, and then just start typing "cursor to selected" in the context menu until that option comes up. whatever you have selected (faces, edges, vertices), it will automatically go to the exact middle of it.

I paused to go try some of this stuff and discovered something new. I don't know if you've covered it yet, but it's AMAZING. Take two pieces of joined geometry that have intersecting lines but don't share vertices at said intersections. In Edit Mode use Vertex Select, and select the nearest vertex on either intersecting edge. Press the G Key, don't move the mouse, then Left Click. A new vertex will appear at the intersection. Use the auto merge feature in options before hand, or merge by distance afterward.

@@stache_obj Yeah, it just saved me 45 minutes to an hour. I found it demonstrated in the video: Create a Vertex at Edge Intersections in Blender, by MyPhysical World. Question. . . Do you know if there's a way to do the opposite of an Inset with edges?
@stache_obj
@stache_obj Рік тому
Just press extrude with E, but then immediately click left click without moving the extrusion at all. Then scale that shit out using S. That will outset it I guess. Is that what you meant or did i misunderstand?
@SewerTapes
@SewerTapes Рік тому
@@stache_obj I think so. I was trying to do it on six edges of three cylinders booled through a wall. Since everything had the origin of the wall, only the center one worked when I scaled, with the two outer ones scaling oblong based on the far-removed origin. I ended up selecting the six circle edges, CTRL C/CTRL V the objects into a duplicate project (which I learned from you, so thanks), separating them, fixing their origins, scaling, joining to the booled wall object, selecting the now 12 circles two at a time (inner and outer), bridging edge loops, created faces, used this new method to attach the new outer circles to the support edges between the wall and original bools with new verts, then finally selecting the faces between the big and small circles and extruding on normals just a smidge. It took four hours to figure out how to get it to work. LOL. I'm only six-ish months in, so I fall down rabbit holes easily. I'll soon learn I did it the hardest way possible. . . like always. Anyways, cheers bud, happy to subscribe to your awesome channel.
@stache_obj
@stache_obj Рік тому
I totally understand dude. I did it all the time too. Like take the longest possible route with the shortcuts and tools i had learned till that time and later learn that it was just a shortcut. I wish I could help understand your situation better and give you a good shortcut, but I'll be honest, it's hard to understand text explanation of a blender 3d problem. But from what i read, do you know there's thing called scale from 'median point' and then scale from 'individual origins'. I forget the shortcut for it, but if you don't know what I'm talking about, Google 'scale individual origins' and you might learn something new right there. If you already knew it, please ignore this petty tip. Anyway, thanks for having this thorough interaction right here in the comments. Thanks for your kind words. I hope to see you more here in future'videos. Cheers 🥂
