They were that strong. Serie A in the late 90s and early 2000 was the most defensive league in the world. Matches end up on average with 0-2 goals. Not like today blowouts of 5-0 etc. That wasnt happening especially not in derbys. Also while he played for Inter, the teams like Juventus and Milan, Lazio and Roma were insanely tough teams. We are talking Maldini's MIlan, Del Piero's Juventus and Bufon in his prime, Lazio had Vieri and Nesta and Roma had Toti and Canavaro. All due respect to CR7 and Messi but La Liga was super easy compared to the Seie A and La Liga in which Ronaldo played. Today Real and Barca are packed while the othee teams are nowhere near.
