Worth mentioning because I've experienced it countless times. Sometimes after you get out of sleep paralysis, you're still feeling sleepy enough to stay in the same position and close your eyes to go back to sleep... You might end up in sleep paralysis AGAIN if you do that! Best thing to do in that situation is to fully wake up (get up to get some water or something) and then go back to sleep.

when i get them i get multiple times. when i wake up middle of the night to use the bathroom and if i don.t fall back to sleep in 5mins i,ll get sleep paralysis when i try to fall back to sleep. and if that happens to me. i get signs to when im about to get one. it starts with a ringing sound in my head. what i do is i just get back up and walk around for few mins then sit down on my bed for 15 mins then go back to bed and i,ll fall back to sleep with no sleep paralysis and i get a good night sleep. and yeah when i do get of sleep paralsis i,ll feel to sleepy to get back up and close my eye again and then im in sleep paralysis telling my self why did i just not get up. i got saved in sleep parralysis twice in my life. the 1st was from my friends dog. the dog jumped on me and i got out of sleep paralsis right away. and the 2nd time was in my room when i woke up to go bathroom. did not fall sleep in 5mins and when i tryed to fall back to sleep. sleep paralysis again. and while i was in it. my phone was in my pucket and my phone was on vibrate. my friends text me and the phone vibrated and woke me up out of sleep paralysis.

I had sleep paralysis twice last night both right after each other. I've never had sleep paralysis prior to last night so it was very bizarre and scary, but I was able to convince myself that it was all just in my head because luckily I've already learned about sleep paralysis years ago. Despite knowing that what I was hallucinating about wasn't real I still felt an extreme amount of stress.
@chesalasanderson7989
@chesalasanderson7989 Рік тому
This literally just happened to me and has happened a few times in the past. I have had SPD for 30 years now. It had diminished for some years, then my son was murdered and it came back. Stress is a major cause, and while it's been 6 years since his death, I still get attacks at least once a month, sometimes more. Sometimes, I go a month or 2 without an attack. There is no predicting it. Used I couldn't even make a sound during an attack. Now I'm able to moan, and my husband will wake me up. But tonight, he woke me up, and I fell right back to sleep and into paralysis. This time, I could mumble words and ask him to help me sit up. So he did, and I got up and took my PTSD sleeping medicine. It prevents dreaming. I'm going back to taking it every night now. Since the attacks have been more frequent. I know my insomnia makes it worse, but the insomnia is caused by the fear of having an attack. It's a catch 22 with disorder. I have tried giving in, and it only makes my panic worse. My sleep demon is just a dark figure or feeling the presence in the room. Tonight it was a dream and I was actually out of the bed, walked to the kitchen because a light came on and there were 2 beings around the corner of my fridge and I was telling them to get out of my house. That's what my husband heard, but it was just moaning to him. And it doesn't matter what position I sleep in now. It happens anyway if it's going to. I wish ot would stop all together. But I have lived with it for so long I just deal. I'm seeing psychiatrist and have been on Valium for a while to help me sleep, but another med I take is counteracting it. It maybe time for some ambien or another sleeping pill. So this is a good tip, definitely get up for a few minutes and move around to prevent going right back in. Thanks for letting me word vomit on your Comment...lol

I've had sleep paralysis since I was in my mid-teens (27 now) and the don't let the eyes wander tip is definitely a key for dealing with it. I can usually tell when they are coming because I will hear a ringing in my ears, so I start small movements and focus on my breathing to escape the paralysis. A few times I've actually been able to fully get up and move while my mind is still hallucinating so my first instinct was to punch the apparitions...but when I fully wake up, I'm like damn ok I literally just tried to throw hands with a sleep paralysis demon lol

I'm 17 and I've struggled with SP since I was 12, and let me tell ya, it's the scariest thing that could happen to anyone. I used to suffer SP about 3 times a year, but recently, I've ve been through a lot of stress. That caused me to have an SP every night, even 3 times a night. The hallucinations get worse and worse, and every time I get less sleep. My recommendation to escape from it is to accept it can happen again and accepting it's your mind tricking you too. That's the way your brain reacts to stress. You need to take care of yourself. You need to stop putting yourself in stressful situations. Give yourself a chance to breathe and some quality time. As I said, it probably will happen again, BUT it also will stop. Wish you the best, honey. There's nothing to fear, you have a whole community holding your back

Very true, do not relax, instead move frantically, it helps. The more relaxed, the more strong the outside force is, based on experience. During sleep paralysis, our mind is awake but body is asleep, so it causes stress in the mind. But trust and MOVE your body to wake up, move fast. & theres another comment saying breathe in & out fast, might want to do that next time.

According to neurologists, the paralysis and (often?) accompanying tactile hallucinations (sense of touch) come from the center of your brain that normally allows you to have vivid, active dreams and not constantly throw yourself out of bed... or wake yourself up. It's otherwise rare for someone to experience a tactile hallucination, and normally the abundance of hallucinatory experiences are visual and audible. It' worth pointing out that this rarity regarding tactile hallucinations causes some distress in those who experience it. A rather popularly observed hallucination is being choked, struck, or attacked somehow. Choking or strangling and a sense of someone/thing sitting or straddling the victim seem to be most popular (though I can only speak to my own experience/observations)... SO perhaps, it's worth mention that stress often results in tension, particularly in or about the neck and throat, as well as in the chest. This might well be the simple explanation for why so many have hallucinatory episodes of a "sleep demon" sitting on their chest and/or strangling them in their bed... at their most vulnerable. Other sensations of being struck, stung, burned, stabbed, or otherwise tortured may be related to the person's particular personal phobias and/or fears. If you're particularly skiddish of stinging insects (ants/bees/wasps/scorpions/etc) then stinging may be your personal "go-to" for stress induced tactile hallucinations. It's still no more personally self destructive than an old fashioned nightmare or maybe a night-terror. Notice I mentioned specifically "skiddish"? That's because you don't need a full on "morbid phobia" for it to effect you. Plenty of folks who haven't a real phobia of something experience it as their worst, personal fear or trauma in memory... SO you don't necessarily need to be ashamed of a childish sense of terror over the experience you most often get in "sleep paralysis"... It's not that big a deal. AND rather like the vid' said... If you can learn to stay calm, then this same experience can be key to lucid dreaming experiences... giving a lingering touch to the dream-state so you have space and time to get back to your dream of preference. It still takes work, but my "sleep demon" is a Succubus who calls herself "Daemonica"... AND we have a WONDERFUL time, now that I'm less than absolutely terrified to greet her! I almost can't wait to see her again. ;o)

Luckily as I've gotten older it's been way easier to handle because I'm basically a paralysis vet now. It's gotten to the point that I like. Acknowledge I'm going into it before it happens and just ride it out without any problems anymore really

I experience sleep paralysis quite often but not regularly, I usually hear voices when it happens, sometimes see things as well, but I wake up from them pretty fast by trying really hard to move my hands and it works most of the time. Thank you for giving more information about that cases, it happens to more people then we think.

Whenever I have sleep paralysis my eyes are always closed. There was this one time when I was stuck in sleep paralysis I was in my dorm and my eyes were closed as usual but I usually have a routine I do to get out of it. But this time it wasn’t working so I just layer there and eventually I began to dream. And it was extremely vivid. It was as if I had began to lucid dream. In my dream I was at a football game playing and I was so confused because I was just in my room a couple of seconds ago. Because of my confusion we lost the game and my coach asked me why I was just standing there and I responded that I’m not actually there right now. That I’m at college in my dorm asleep and this is all a dream. He was like “what????” But he said it as if he knew that the gig was up and then I sank into the ground and woke up.

A lot of people who try to lucid dream intentionally go through sleep paralysis and do this for this reason. It makes the lucid dreams extremely vivid and although I've never done it, I want to try some day.

Pro tip slowly wiggle your hands & toes instead 6. Don't let your eye wander. Close your eyes instead. 7. Don't expect the worst. This too Shall pass. So, What can you do? Please go see a medical professional. Frequent Sleep paralysis is serious. Take a deep breath. Stretch the corners of your mouth upwards. Just had my first experience last night. It was really weird because I was in the middle of a dream that turned into a nightmare, I won't get into it but the demon threw me onto my bed into the position i was asleep in. I then woke up frozen and the demon was in my room inches from my face. Then it spazed out moved irratically and floated in my room on its back. I was on my side too. I looked away and it disappeared that's when I felt like someone had a light choke hold on me. So I wiggled around and finally broke free.

I had it just last month while I was taking a nap (in the morning) and it was so hard to escape from. It happened after a few days of sleeping late. At first, it gave me a fear of falling asleep because I might see frightening things again. I even avoided being alone while sleeping. The hallucination started with a man running quickly inside our house and began hurting each of our family members... I was the last one. Fortunately, I was able to quickly look down on our feet and have not seen his face. Because if only I did see his face, it will increase my fear. I closed my eyes, as usual but the fear did not end there. I saw myself sleeping on the left and facing the wall. It's my sleeping position irl. The man I saw earlier ran quickly beside my bed tho there's no gap in between my bed and the wall. He was just standing there and I felt like he's waiting for me to look at his face. I tried moving my right shoulder and saying my sister's name (because at that time, I already could hear her voice while she was in her OC) but I just couldn't. I end up just looking empty at the man in front of me, just on his cloth btw and blinked a lot of times until he turned to a shadow. Seconds passed and I fin'lly woke up. That's my worst experience. 😕

Many years ago, I would get sleep paralysis more often, because I slept in a different position then. I stopped sleeping in that position, and ever since, at least that I remember, I haven't experienced it. Typically I was laying on my back with my head turned off to my right, at least when I would wake up. I would have the frightening experience of being in an uncomfortable position, barely being able to move. I also had the feeling that I could barley breathe. I would tell myself to stay calm and fight back with all my willpower, and I would break free fairly easily. I almost miss the experience, its strange.

I usually feel it when I’m about to have sleep paralysis, so what I do is that I try to wake myself up ( which is quite difficult) , but yesterday I felt it happening and I was like f**k it I don’t care. So I found myself sleeping on my back (although usually I either sleep on my side or stomach ) and there was this black figure that looked like a man but had no facial features , it crawled from the roof the to side of my bed , at this moment I was a bit scared but i knew it wasn’t real so i just kept looking at it . Then it started eating my leg, and I literally felt the pain from it ( if you ever dreamed of a dog biting you then you know what I’m talking about) , at this moment I was fed up so I decided to look to the other side of my bed , which is towards the door , and it wasn’t the best idea.( I live in an apartment by myself so I usually keep the door a bit open ) , a doll like figure opens the door and starts walking towards me and it looked like it had a knife, at this moment I was completely terrified , it got closer and closer and then it jumped on my bed and started crawling on my chest , all of this was happening while the black thing is still eating my leg. Then it stood and looked at me and started screaming with this very high pitch voice, my heart started pounding vigorously till the point were I thought I was having a heart attack,shortly after it I woke up and everything thing disappeared, I turned on the lights and looked around and there was nothing. So I checked the time and it was around 40 minutes before my alarm. So I just woke up got ready and went to class a bit early , I didn’t even drink coffee. Anyways it was an interesting experience, and a great way to start my day.

I have identified one huge factor that I think is very important in mentioning! That is that unpleasant smells or strong odors in the bedroom triggered my friend's issue with this. Sleeping next to a dirty laundry basket, a filled trashcan, a cat liter box or gerbil cage, or a mildewed area are strong odors and can be but don't have to be reminiscient of unwanted things that you smell while asleep and you want to feel in control of your environment. It can but doesn't have to trigger this. Also, one person's calming smell is not always another person's preference. Lavender is supposed to be calming, but it is not what I want to smell. What do you enjoy smelling? Feel that sensation amd practice returning to it during the day. Being tired can take away your motivation to be self-disciplined. Understandable, but I believe your challenge is to become your own 'genie'. You are loved as much as you may reject that notion as self love and acceptance. I believe it is our soul's purpose. Journaling, daily meditation, and positive affirmation before bed reach the subconscious mind when practiced regularly. I share this only as I wish the viewers here peace. Also, keeping all areas of your life orderly (not compulsively) but especially in the bedroom provides a sense of increasing empowerment. I send you loving prayers in whatever faith you practice or don't practice... it's all energy...but, to me Angels are real. We are meant to feel positively expectant solutions in prayer while accepting that it is your birthright and not praying for what you don't want. Like attracts like. Reading positive literature reaches your subconscious, too. Exercise is always good even if it's just a walk. Many blessings.

I am awake watching this because my attack happened, and after my husband helped bring me out, I immediately fell right back into the attack. So he helped me again, but I got up and went out for a smoke (I'm actually quitting and down to about 5 a day, but I needed one after that) I also have a medication for PTSD that I was prescribed and I stopped taking it, because you don't dream or remember dreaming anyways, but I still get it filled every month, so I took that and I'm going back to taking it nightly, because the attacks have become more frequent. I have been dealing with SPD since my early 20s, and I'm 46 now. I went a few years with little to no attacks, and then my son was murdered. They have returned full force. Stress and anxiety are major causes of this disorder, and it sucks cause life is full of stress. Hope this little tip helps.

The worse about this is my sleep paralysis is that it was a sound so I couldn't distract myself as it was everywhere. There was a loud banging and clicking, footsteps but worse of all the sound of a young woman laughing moving until she was right next to my ears. I closed my eyes the whole time and forced myself awake.

The tips to get out from sleep paralysis for myself is: 1. Feel your muscles from your toes or anything from your body 2. Hear your eyes doing Rapid eye movement(if you can. If not go to the 3rd one) 3. The 3rd one is the toughest one without the 2nd cause you need to get into sleep with your conciseness(lucid dream) and order yourself to wake up Alternative if you can do no 3: If you feel hear your eyes making humming sound like a motor, try to stop your eyes. If you can you will free from your sleep paralysis If you couldn't do all of them... You just need to wait, longest is 15 minutes. While waiting you rapidly can try 3rd one Edit: Or... You just find another easy way from another people

One of the major causes of sleep paralysis is sleep deprivation, or a lack of sleep. A changing sleep schedule, sleeping on your back, the use of certain medications, stress, and other sleep-related problems, such as narcolepsy, may also play a role👍

My version of sleep paralysis is quite different from what is often explained. I tend to get it both during dreams/nightmares as well as when I’m between sleeping and being awake (both before and after sleeping.) I have this happen all the time and I have never once seen a ghost or demon. When it happens during sleep, it manifests itself as a nightmare that involves being stuck in a claustrophobic place or being smothered by something heavy that makes it hard to breathe. It can also manifest itself as being weighed down and feeling too intoxicated to be able to walk/move properly which results in eventually falling down and not being able to get up. If it happens when I’m between sleep and awake, I can never open my eyes and I always desperately start trying to move my arm/hand to generate the momentum to fall off the bed… But it never works. I get it all the time and I’m just used to it by now.

I started having sleep paralysis since the divorce of my parents when I was around 6 or 7 years old. As a kid, I had no idea how to escape, for me it was the door to nightmare :'( Thankfully, growing up, I've learned to rationalize better; and presently as an adult, thanks to meditation, I've learned new tips in helping me to handle the situation better, like : - focus on your breath, don't let your thoughts run wild, just think of breathing calmly and peacefully. - after calming down, I do like in the video: I start moving my body slowly until the paralysis is over. - when I'm fully conscious I turn on a soft light and look for soft and peaceful music to comfort me. I think is a good thing to do something that makes you feel better after that awful experience hehe I hope this helps someone a little

Usually during sleep paralysis I feel another presence in the room with me. Sometimes I feel the presence sit on the end of the bed. Once I got over my fear and looked at the end of the bed. I saw what looked like me sitting at the end of the bed staring at the me laying in the bed. Another time I was woke up paralyzed feeling great pain but was able to move my eyes downward and saw what looked like two very white arms coming up and out of my arms that were laying on the bed.

Nine times out of ten, my Sleep Paralysis Demon ends up being my cat. She’s black, but she sleeps with her mouth open and her bottom teeth sticking out, with her eyes in that “mostly closed but you can still see them kinda and is asleep so not focusing” state that cats do. So I’ll just barely see these reflective slits and bright white teeth in the darkness, and my mind will want to run away with that. I just kinda focus on feeling where she is, usually asleep next to my legs. The focus on using some other sense to recognize something familiar is generally enough to get me to relax. Helps me ground myself.

I taught my self how to lucid dream when I was young, but one of the consequences was I started getting sleep paralysis with very vivid hallucinations. The main one was always a shadowy figure setting on my chest staring at me and I could just barely not see him. The eventual solution I found was whenever I would enter my sleep paralysis I would close my eyes and try to go back to sleep and eventually I would fade into a normal dream which I could wake myself from. Some of the most terrifying nights of my life, but I am totaly over it now and it doesn't happen any more.

I usually get sleep paralysis when I falls asleep on my stomach . I feel this weight on my chest and often feels someone breathing next to me . Feels like the bed keeps weighing down as if somebody climbs into your bed . But eventually I managed to keep my eyes closed and throw myself into pleasant imaginations . The feeling of someone breathing next to the ears is kind of arousing and I started imagining stuff . Once I was undergoing sleep paralysis , it felt so real although I was ambigous if I should rather panic or enjoy it. The experience was really cool and amazing 😋 but then I have never experienced it again . Waiting for my demons to burst back into my sleep.

I started experiencing sleep paralysis when I was around 15-16. It was truly one of the most terrifying things that’s ever happened to me, but I am proud to say that over time I started implementing these tips mentioned in the video to help myself. I didn’t even know what was going on, but my first instinct was to stay calm, and not panic. Although I had it pretty easy, because I’ve never had very intense hallucinations (I also always kept my eyes closed). The most common one was when several palms started to get closer and closer to my face, and it became very difficult to breathe. It’s a traumatic experience, but it’s definitely manageable. I recommend trying to move your pinky or your toes, and take it slowly, no need to rush. It’s super difficult, because your body feels like it weighs triple your weight, so just take your time. Also, super important: once you get out of that state, do NOT go back to sleep. To me it’s really difficult, because at those times I always feel extremely exhausted, but try to get up and walk around a bit. After that you’re good to go back to bed. It’s nice seeing this topic being talked about, when I was experiencing it there were barely any information on the web about it, and I always felt super weird about myself. But it’s normal. Take care loves❤️

I just going through a sleep paralysis 2 days ago, i literally can't move or speak at all, but this is not my first time having a sleep paralysis. Usually, i'm having a sleep paralysis when my mind or my body is too tired or i just watch some horror movies, or the worst case is i forgot to pray before going to bed and sleeping with an unstable mind. Well, actually, i can say that even though this video is telling is that it was a hallucination, but from my experience, the demons or the "hallucinations" can only be resisted and overcome when i started to speak and calling the name of Jesus:) Trust me, it helps you to awake more faster, when there's no one that possible to wake you up, just call His name, He is always there to help you. Don't forget to pray before you sleep and make sure you are sleeping with a clear mind and a grateful heart. God bless you!

I've had sleep paralysis where the dream took place in my bathtub (even though I was actually in my bed) and something was trying to drown me by pushing down on my chest. Drowning is my worst fear. I struggled to get out of it but when I did I was actually out of breath. That's just one of my many scary sleep paralysis stories, and I've felt the pressure on my chest several times. I almost always realize that I'm having sleep paralysis, but that was the only time I didnt. I thought I was going to die. I've learned to keep my eyes closed during sleep paralysis, and it helps so much. Now I usually only get the paralysis part of it, but occasionally I'll feel a presence in the room or feel something touch me.
