In the end everyone needs to find his own forms and style.

Fudokan we had simple throws and several arm locks. Not sure if it was borrowed from combat Sambo as my previous coach of combat Sambo recommended to me Karate couch (he's mate) to take over training or Fudokan drive to recover some of the forgotten Okinawa techniques.

Thank you very much for this video! As a Jiu Jitsu practicioner I prefer Judo throws to wrestling takedowns, eventhough they're way harder to pull off, especially without the Gi. But they are just much less tiring and there's nothing more satisfying than a well timed throw that feels effortless but sends your opponent flying. There's not a lot of people sharing No Gi Judo techniques so thanks again Shintaro!

You are right that judo has become increasingly more sport reliance, but if you can't find a more martial art based dojo, just get a friend and a mat and start figuring stuff out. If you had any experience with judo, say maybe two or three years, then you should be able to figure out most things that help it become a martial art. For instance, many people think these throws can't be done without a gi, has shown in the video there are few throws that can't be done shirtless. Like obviously all of the sode throws are going to be impossible unless the person is wearing a jacket, but in general most throws can be done perfectly well without clothing any kind.

Doesn't it help being shorter whilst close in and in getting a lower pivot point, like the classic foot in gut rolling them over your head move, shorter legs easier to get into gut position from close in, but yeah, great viddy showing not using the gi which is kind of a weapon against yourself.... though elsewhere was a good variation of a kick in the nuts and levering them by the nuts over your head LOL

That creates an immediate blind-spot for yourself Many times in self-defense you won’t even have the space to maneuver out of being trapped in groundwork, such as in-between benches/seats on public transportation, or being trapped between multiple chairs/spectators in a crowded bar or concert For those settings, groundwork is not only useful but absolutely necessary, since you don’t have the space to quickly save yourself out of it Kindly do not spread this sort of ignorant misinformation online thank you. best things I've learned in my life are: basic no gi judo throws, basic grappling defense, grappling transitions and basic striking. I'm getting older and still: no real fights. however, I did have a drunk neighbor try to suplex me a couple of years ago...and I warned him to stop, but when he didnt....those skills helped a ton! If i landed on neck, which is already damaged, it would have been really bad. Instead, he got thrown and hasn't act tough around me since. we are friends... never have been anything but friends, but when he drinks, he gets tough and wanting to wrestle. I can't do that. my body has too much to lose. so, those basics have helped keep myself safe.

Harai goshi is also a good throw which I have used to great effect, any throw is further enhanced by going down and landing with your knee in the assailants chest or landing on top and going straight for a choke or a strangle. Though tbh if you throw someone with impetus on an hard pavement, it’s usually a KO and an ippon. Great practical techniques only come with much practise, all the same, still a great instructional video.

@SeanWinters
@SeanWinters Рік тому
I teach brand new members on a weekly basis. One thing I'll say to you is number 1: learn to fall properly as soon as possible. You can always practice falling at home, the specific technique "ukemi". The sooner you learn how to take a fall correctly, the sooner you are able to practice with more experienced judoka. 2. Judo sessions have to cover a wide range of skill sets, meaning that if you're surrounded by a lot of high ranking judeoka, don't be surprised if they are teaching the whole class something that seems very intricate. Everything done in judo can be dumbed down, don't get frustrated, you will fail a lot at first. If they seem to be repeatedly teaching you beginners stuff, don't worry about it. Greatly accept the opportunity to practice these beginners things, but if it's really bothering you you can ask a Sensei to teach you something new as well. 3. When you do a forward throw, like when you're pulling someone forward towards you and they flip over your hip or leg, always make sure to rotate your shoulders all the way so that you're looking up at the ceiling. It might seem like you're throwing the person too hard, but it actually hurts people more if you only rotate your shoulders halfway.

Remember the pain and use it to help you learn to fall better

I love you for showing this judo with no ghee. I'm not going to the Olympics I'm going to the big Martial arts tournament in Denver. Sometimes they have a group event. Everybody in the cell attacks one guy and if he can fight long enough for the guard to get there and get it stopped he wins his life. I love to study Wing Chun and I'm too slow and old to have that vastly fast hand speed. If you could show us different moves with no ghee that we could use to turn something remotely related to a clinch in boxing into a judo throw. Most people in a street fight will grab you with one hand probably their left hand and strike you with the right hand in the head. It would seem when he grabs me by the collar or puts his hand behind my neck, I need to rotate and bite him with my butt cheeks since they don't have any teeth he won't notice that and as soon as I've got him bent over them butt cheeks I need to be hauling that arm over my shoulder and slap him on the ground as hard as I can. If you could show these judo throws as a means to slam a person on the ground hard to end a fist fight you would do us all a great service. When we go to court we can say. Your honor he jumped on my back and he fell off on the ground.
