This makes me think.. all along, Sid, the kid next door, probably saw one of the toys talk, and he did what he did to try and prove he wasn't crazy. But not once did those toys give in regardless of their torture. Only until they had the perfect chance to make sure he would never harm another toy did they make it known again that they could talk. The toys in Toy Story are even more legendary than I thought.
