"I'm not motivated to start" Act first, the motivation follows.
@franklanham69362 роки тому
And try to start the task with something simple so it’s easier to start without the motivation. Once you’ve accomplished something, the motivation will start to build. But yes, drag your ass into action no matter how you start.

Yeah the idea that anyone can do something without motivation is kind of absurd - to suggest otherwise is just feel-good, magical thinking bro speak. "Discipline is a crutch. It's thinking you need to BE something before you DO something. When in fact you only ARE the things you DO. Only by ACTING will you BECOME disciplined." Wow I can do it too! Maybe I should start making entrepreneurial inspo videos.
@irrationalpies29462 роки тому
I'm a software engineer currently figuring out if entrepreneurship is for me, and I think this video is pushing me towards it more - I'm only 2 years out of college and in my first job still, and in the beginning I was being given tasks and estimates that I could see were way over-estimated, so I was basically 3x'ing the other people on my team (and fortunately got recognised for it with a big salary bump after the first year). But I got burnt out with the work becoming so repetitive, easy and boring, they weren't taking on my bigger ideas to improve the situation, so my reason to become my own boss is so I won't be limited by other people and can fulfil the potential I know I have. Thanks for the video Alex, found you a couple of weeks ago and been watching your videos a lot!
@rickblyth2 роки тому
I can certainly emphasise with your situation. I was similarly miserable with my software tech director job and knew it was time for a change for me. I’d suggest you start small building some apps as a side hustle rather than straight up quitting your job. See how it goes and see if it’s for you without risking your main income.

This reminds me of the famous Lee Iacocca, CEO of Chrysler, was looking as a new model that was made and he said something like "I wonder what that car would look like if we made it a convertible. Now, convertibles had been dropped by car makers for years and Iacocca wanted to bring them back. So he asked his design and modeling team "how soon can you make me a convertible version of this car?" Back then designs were produced in clay and took months...the answer came back: "we can get it to you in about 7 or 8 months." Iacocca responded by putting his hands on both shoulders, looking the guy in the eyes and saying: "You don't understand, I want you to go down to the hardware store, buy a chainsaw and show me a convertible this afternoon."

Wow just had this in my feed. What timing. I just read a Tim Ferriss article where he said pretty much the same thing about speed and productivity. Just focus on doing the highest priority things right away. Noted.

@merlin86753092 роки тому
One natural result is gained efficiency by reducing the energy it takes to switch from one task to another (about 15 minutes on average). Procrastinating means that you have to remember to do the thing at a later time, switch your focus to it, THEN execute- the "Touch it once" mentality at work. The bonus is the compound interest gained by having the most important things done the soonest so they have the maximum time in existance for maximum effectiveness.

This is super true. I am always pushing for us to do new strategies in days and not weeks. Another huge impact is that some new things don't stick until they are full in place. Similar to humans and creating new habits. Do immediately and in some short time it will be a habit or for business, a new initiative.

However, I did stumble across this video and I have to say that you are SPOT ON! The speed with you are able to make decisions is crucial because your energy won't get drained by the end of the day/week/month/year. For me personally it is not time management but energy management.
