I did a live stream today from the Peak Hong Kong, but this is the part you didn't see on the live stream (starting at 14:50). It's also in 4k 60fps on a stabilized camera, so it should be a bit easier to watch.
Jump ahead to 14:50 if you watched the live stream.

PenguinSix is an apolitical guy in a political town who likes to walk a lot. He has hiked over 17,000 miles (27,000kms) in the past six years and is still walking today. He is an American expat who spent the last decade in Hong Kong with his family and is now back in Washington DC, continuing his daily ritual of taking very long hikes around the city catching the sights and sounds of the city while live streaming to share with others. History, culture, life as an expat (with reverse culture shock), and the pitiful Chinese food in Washington DC are regular topics of discussion. I am enjoying this walk. This long video is reminiscent of the long videos with lots of walking you use to show in and around DC 3 years ago. Love all these beautiful scenes and places in Hong Kong.

This was an amazing hike. I learned a lot about Hong Kong and am in awe of the beautiful nature. Too bad it is a 15 hour flight - I’d have to wear compression waders. Safe travel to you and your boys.

Dang, I hate I missed the live. I loved seeing this hike again. I remembered several places along the way, so peaceful and vibrant vegetation and clean. You are going to need a new pair of Asics when you get home 😊. Thank you for this walk and educating us. Safe travels to you and the boys

I take this walk pretty often too since I live around that area … but not every single day. 😅 I also go to other hiking trails with friends … not as close as the Peak but equally beautiful. Thanks for sharing your memorable experience. Travel safe!

Thanks for revisiting your old walking route down from the Peak. We did that route whilst we were there last year and it was a lovely reminder of the route we took.

Nice contrast of the birds singing overlooking the mass of civilization below. All that within a hundred years or so; all the skyscrapers among many other buildings took a lot of work. Turned into a work of a tourof scenes and history.

Don’t get a Siba Inu. They are horribly stubborn. Ours wouldn’t even finish his walk. We’d have to carry him the rest of the way. He would stop and sit down in the middle if the road and wouldn’t budge no matter what. He did love us though.

These Indian rubber trees remind me of something out of fantasy and science fiction films looking as if I am in a fantasy world or another planet with life on it way out on the cosmos somewhere. I find Syfy and fantasy scenes very interesting and fascinating.

Some of the parts of the walking trail are dangerous without the guardrails and where it is steep down into forest/jungle from edge of trail without guardrails. It would be definitely dangerous at night without these guardrails and steepness. Whoever made these trails should of put guardrails in all the steep places at edge of trail.

I remember back in 1990s reading and hearing in news how many in HK were protesting against HK being handed to China. I don't blame the HK residents for being unhappy about HK going from British to China back in 1997 for they didn't want this.
@naturalisedhker7953

I think it was more to do with class than politics. HKers considered themselves better educated and richer than mainlanders. They couldn’t abide to mainlanders telling them what to do. The Chinese government is patient. They didn’t interfere at all in HK politics until they could be seen as equals by HKers.

Wow Penquin6 how interesting you lived 10 years in Hong Kong what was your job? Why did you move to DC? I love hearing about peoples life story. I’ve only been to England once 30 years ago to see where my Grandmother lived. So where is your son going to college if I may ask in Hong Kong or England. My cousin was adventurous since her dad worked in England several times a year and they would go with him so now her daughter is going to college in England. My cousin lived in France for a semester as an exchange student but she was only allowed to speak French. Wow 15 hours to NY that is the only downsize for me on flying I get claustrophobic being in an airplane that long and I can’t sleep being in the center idle no fun. You sure do a lot of walking 20,000 steps I’m lucky if I do 6,000.

P6 lived and worked in Hong Kong (10 yrs) as an international lawyer part-time and raised his kids while his wife is an international banker. Both kids qualified for some ivy league schools in Washington DC so they felt that they couldn't turn it down and moved from Hong Kong to DC for their education. All this just as Covid-19 was hitting Hong Kong and before it hit the states. And before the Chinese take over of Hong Kong after the British relinquished control. Huge upheaval with Hong Kong students protesting the Chinese clamp down on freedoms. Very scary times.

Do people ever skateboard in HK?
@Penguinsix
@Penguinsix Місяць тому
Not much. HK is built on a hill. It's pretty dangerous to skateboard on the island. Out in Kowloon there are some skateparks I think.

The mall at end of this video looks quite empty. I would say a combination of technology with online buying and many people cannot afford these high prices though there are many open stores as well. With this said, something is being done right with this mall in HK to keep it operational. Love shopping malls and the international vibes they bring. These vibes are a reason why whenever i hear of dead malls, it makes me feel sad. Shopping malls with major international corporation names and stores bring this exciting vibe and feel where this whole shop small shop local propaganda, to me, brings vibes of tribalism, regressive attitudes, old prejudiced attitudes against the "other", etc...
