Cool. I always thought it was because GPU's are great at parallel computation. With, RGB, dealing with 3 dimensional matrices, does higher floating point operations allow increase performance? I would imagine so. I guess it's a mixture of many things. Interesting comment though!

@@gamingtutor4575 Yes, if you look at the math thats used for things like OpenGL, basically it translates coordinates from 3d local space (the model) into world space (the environment the model is in) then into clip space (the perpsective the camera sees) then into screen space (flattening into a 2d image). Those translations are basically floating points being added and subtracted to line up the right way. Proof this is done with floats is that z-fighting (when textures overlap and start flashing) is caused by floating point innaccuracies, because floats become less accurate the larger the number becomes. This means distant textures are more likely to experience z-fighting. So in a lot of ways, floating point operations are critical to 3d graphics. However, flops dont tell the whole story. Things like texture cacheing, shaders, and lighting effects use much less simple math, and thus have dedicated components on the gpu. RTX cores for example are for ray tracing, which is vector-based math to calculate "what is this pointing at?" and "how far away is it?" Ray tracing has been used for things like hitscan weapons, but to use it for lighting effects is like treating every lightsource as if it is a shotgun firing millions of bullets everywhere all the time, and those bullets bounce everywhere, too (very laggy) so the parallelization possible with RTX cores is needed for realistic lighting effects.

That's only with the understanding that they are losing money on each unit sold. To be honest they are probably still selling them at a profit, just not nearly as much of a profit as they did on the previous generation. Now it being the 2nd gen of RTX, production costs probably have gone down; but there is no way that they have been reduced 50%. This means that they had a MASSIVE mark up on the previous generation of 2000 series cards, didn't sell NEARLY enough of them and have decided to price the next gen of GPU more in line with actual market value so as to put pressure on AMD as well as corner the market. They aren't going to lose money on these cards, I guarantee it.

They are not losing much money per unit because they are going to manufacture it for cheaper too. Thanks to Samsung’s 8nm chip, they won’t have to deal with late deliveries and because it’s smaller it will need less manufacturing. This is a great collaboration from two giants.

plus increased performance from increased airflow is gonna be so sweet. I hope the new airflow fixes the tight gap in the gpu and the fan where dust usually ends up. It's unreal really.

Chances are if you can run on max settings really well now then you'd run it still very well with rtx on. Even with non rtx cards ( I know you need a rtx card I'm saying a lower card if it had rtx would do it fine)

@@BodybuildingSteve what do you mean? No matter how well DLSS does you need to optimize. It only handles GPU processing, you still need to worry about the CPU. Even DLSS wouldn't be near saving Yandere simulator.

I doubt it, they'll do whatever it takes to get the best FPS throughput for performance as it negatively impacts the user's experience. Plus, it opens up the game to multiple platforms the better optimised the game is.

The power on these card is solely to try to keep ahead of what their expecting from RDNA 2 and a result of having to go with a Samsung die. It's not like 400+ watt cards are becoming standard.

@@ESPirits87 Movies are 30fps yeah, but it's way too low for action games. NVIDIA themselves acknowledge this, why do you think they're pushing a 300+ Hz monitor (which, to be fair, is a bit on the ludicrous end, even for competitive twitch action games). Point is you can't really expect effects like that in games even if they're possible nowadays in what's technically real time. Huge quality of life improvement for 3D artists to get preview renders that are somewhat close to the final product in near-real time though though.

I would like to say, the FPS comments was for the memes, but knowing Chat, the majority were serious about it.

Leaks indicate that full big navi should perform around 2080ti levels, so their top end card will have to price compete with the 3070. I really do hope they have something to compete with nvidia at the high end though, results in better prices for both camps.

I don't see how it's possible AMD can compete with this. Nvidia could've sold these cards for $2000 each given how powerful they are and they're doing $400/$700 versions. It's insane. AMD is screwed unless they can shift cards for $100-200.

That's exactly what has me thinking, if your the best and no one can compare to your gfx cards why drop your price you are already moving cards at that price because people will pay for it if they want the best they could sell this for what ever and I would buy it on the raw numbers alone. Nvidia has a plan and knows something either amd may shock us all and have something that can compare at the top end or their new stuff is top of the mid tier stack and priced so low that nvidia has to drop prices to keep dollar to performance ratio with amd and give you a reason to still go team green. Just food for thought.
