The ending of a 37 year marriage deserves a song that sums up the loss of all my hopes and dreams of a family that I loved with all my heart. The sacrifice of my family unit so I could love myself is my biggest regret. It hurt me deeply but was the most necessary thing to save myself from a life of further despair, emptiness, and being unloved. She put all of my jumbled emotions in place with this song. Let it be known that I tried. For almost 40 years, I tried. This song moves me to tears and I play it daily. It’s helping me heal because it speaks my life from beginning to end. God bless Adele for giving me (and others) this song. She’s speaking my truth. Edited to add that sense I posted my comment, my life has had a complete turnaround and I'm now in a good place mentally and emotionally and my children tell me that I actually saved my family. We were in a bad place and sometimes a thing has to fall apart to be rebuilt correctly. My path is clear. My heart is healed. Many thanks for the beautiful and encouraging comments. And many thanks to Adele for being courageous enough to speak her truth.

I absolutely understand why Adele can't bare to sing this song live. I can hear the pain in her voice, especially in the end, "I tried!" Having gone through a separation with my husband when I was 30, and being a single mom in an instant, it was a time to reflect and figure myself out. I cried the first 10 times I heard this song, because I recall the agonizing pain of that time in my life. I absolutely love this song.

I broke up with my partner today. He tried to mold me into someone I know I can never be. This song is a reminder for me that I deserve to do what is best for myself and my life instead of trying to morph into something else and hope for the best. Sounds like real piano and zero auto-tune. You can literally hear her backing away from the mic on the belting parts, almost like it was a one-take. Slight double-vocal at the end but doesn't seem like much processing besides some reverb and letting her do her thing. One of the best vocalists of our generation. Such a personal/powerful tune as well. Queen.

This is one of best Adele songs ever recorded! It is honest, simple, heartfelt, and painful. Two facts about this song: 1) Adele is known to do only one take to record her songs. This song is an exception. It has been recorded multiple times due to the heavy subject matter and the higher vocal demands. 2) Adele mentioned that she will never sing this song live because it tears her apart. This song made me cry, and I don’t say that lightly. We all want to be loved, and want to love. But we make mistakes, we hurt others and others hurt us in our life long pursuit of love. And sometimes all we can do is acknowledge that we TRIED, we tried our hardest. We did our best at the time. And we have to face ourselves, to look inward and acknowledge the things WE messed up along the way. But that’s okay, pick yourself back up and heal. Take the time to let go, to make the sacrifices that are necessary to heal. And then when the time is right, try again, try harder than ever before to LOVE. This song is so beautiful. My spirit stirs every time she gets to the line "But oh my, oh my". The chord progression here descends just until we get to the main chorus. To me, it feels like the exact moment you realize you can no longer accept any less than what you deserve but you know how much it's going to hurt to move on to bigger and better things. I could go on and on about why I love this song so much. Thank you for such a sincere piece of music, Adele.
