The fact dude could just chill in a McDonald’s all day spotting cars tells you that the McDonald’s management is in on it. They’re all splitting up the money 💰

this happened to my friend’s mother car. so since I was staying over at my friends house, her mother decided that we could get KFC for dinner. When we arrived we parked we and headed inside to order. and not even 5 minutes later, a tow truck was taking my friend’s mothers car away. she ran up to the driver and told him to stop but he assaulted her by palming her face almost giving her a broken nose and tried to drive off but thank god someone called the cops and he got arrested for physical abuse.

If a tow operator in NY tells you that the drop fee is $217, tell him you'll call the cops if he doesn't charge the state-mandated drop fee of $62.50.

They lost their license for Illegal tows , they towed Mc Donalds customers as well. Looks good on them.

My brother is an entrepreneur and when he was starting a new company he considered towing but he changed his mind because he couldn’t stand the fact that he would make a living off of causing other people misery and the only encounters he would have with his clients is being hated on. I think this is pretty disgusting tbh.

If there is a sign and you park there then you can't complain about how quick they towed the car, you shouldn't have parked there period.

The sign literally says if you’re not a customer and leave the parking lot you will be towed? How is this unfair? If this wasn’t regulated then customers wouldn’t be able to park.

Used to park my car in a huge empty parking lot for about a year when there was no parking anywhere around my apartment which happened very often. One day I realized my car was gone and thought it was stolen, found out there was a single small hidden sign all across the lot which said no vehicles allowed overnight. Got my car back after paying $400 fine.

I liked the part when they did exactly what the sign said not to do and they were all confused and unhappy when they saw their cars getting towed.

That spotter is definitely getting cash for doing what he's doing, seeing as how fast he does it and the fact that tow truck driver charged $217 when the state mandated cost is $65.50

To be fair, if I were running a business, and people were leaving their cars at my business while they went somewhere else, I would have them towed too.

For anyone trying to defend these guys also know they towed people who parked their car and went inside the McDonald's I hope the manager and the spotter receive life in prison

There is no doubt the tow company is operating in a predatory manner, however in all fairness the sign is really clear.

I live in new york city and i could tell you that people abuse private location parking lot for their benefit to avoid paying meters. also street parking in new york is almost impossible.

Yes it is both of these things AND technically legal, the sign specially says "for any length of time", however with the McDonald's employee spotting on what looks like a near constant makes me believe this is a planned relationship between the restaurant and the towing company

I feel as though if you’re parking in the wrong spot you deserve to get towed for it. There is no excuse as to why you can’t park in the right spot for where you’re going

In Arizona it was illegal to touch a car with your tow truck until you had gotten the vin number and called into the police department letting them know the vehicle was being impounded. Once they gave you an 'impound number', then the driver could hook up and tow the car. You were not legally allowed to touch that car with your tow truck until you got an impound number from the police. It still happened with some shady companies, but it wasn't the norm.

I would have gone into the McDonalds and bought a burger and drink and asked the manager to bring me my car back at his cost. If he refuses I would sue for damages, have his restaurant license revoked, and have him followed home.

Actually 217 $ is nothing for a tow truck driver they can charge up to 330 $. Second what the? IT IS FAIR! McDonald’s tows people who DO NOT go to their store because they want customers. It isn’t a free parking place.

I'm from a small town, I visited D.C. to visit a friend who lived in a apt complex. I witnessed a tow truck company TERRORIZING the car owners for ANY INFRACTION. The most ridiculous....NOT PARKED STRAIGHT ENOUGH within the yellow lines! Can't make this up.

It’s unethical and unfair….BUT….it’s not illegal. That being said, only use McDonald’s parking lot if you’re going to McDonalds. Problem: solved.

I used to work at an Albertsons next to a big swap meet center, and the parking signs clearly specified "Albertsons customer parking only". The private security guy that was on site had a second job working as a spotter. Dude was good friends with a tow trucker. Homeboy took home more cash in tipoffs than his dayjob.

I absolutely hate predator tow truck drivers . Absolute cowards and thieves.

Have a fellow military buddy who was working a servailance operation in a blacked out helmet top HUMMVE when a tow truck operator pulled up and hooked the truck, upon trying to lift it his hydraulic pump started to fail from the excessive weight. My friend started the vehicle placed it in to low mode and gunned the vehicle. This resulted in the HUMMVE. Rocketing off of the lift, bending the boom and rupturing the hydraulic cylinder of the tow truck. The MP in charge was called in to the incident and quickly responded to the scene. Least to say the whole incident was caught on video and unfortunately for the tow truck driver was read the riot act for interfering with a military investigation and was made to pay for damages to the HUMMVE. They billed him for a NEW airlift bumper full price to the military, not surplus price. He got off very lucky…..

Maybe read the sign and you won't get towed, it's not that hard, it's just the law, some people choose to enforce it

Simple solution here take Macdonalds court and make it very public, plus sue the towing company for auto theft.

It’s a private lot. Unless they’re towing the car of a customer in the store, it doesn’t matter how predatory it is. If you can’t follow the rules, don’t park there.

Blantently walking off the property IS reason to tow. Towing while the customer is still in the McDonalds is NOT right. That was the reason this location got in trouble in the first place.

I'm actually with the McDonald's manager on this one. You wouldn't want people parking their car at your restaurant's parking lot only to be going somewhere else and not inside the your business place. *Especially* with a small restaurant with limited space specifically only for your customers. Without that rule and sign, small businesses would have trouble getting customers to their place because there's no nearby parking space for a potential customer to park at and shop.

I would agree to this sort of tactic for cars parked in fire lanes, handicap spots or in the way or traffic but for spots that may be for another business and the lot is mostly empty. No. That’s shady at best and altering mandates rates is criminal.

FACT: The manager of McDonald's didn't want to comment because the tow truck driver is 'supplementing' his income.

When I see signs like that I just avoid the business even if I was planning to go there. But thanks for letting us know about spotters. I will always keep an eye out for them now.

I remember a story in Florida where a restaurant owner who also happened to own a tow truck company would tow away customer cars once they left his restaurant and browsed the area.

It's simple, just follow the law and don't park there if you're not a patron of that establishment. That space is reserved for those guests. This country has a major problem with feeling entitled to break whatever rule suits them at the time.
