We could wax philosophical about the merits of a rhombus versus a triangle but at the end of the day there's a version of each that would be right (that's a little geometry joke for ya ;o). We chose a common hip axis to simplify the chassis structure and because we knew we would be able to get it to tip over - which is the precursor for walking. So, in a way you're right, it is unstable, just not so "wildly" that it doesn't work. Now that we have our motion control system dialed in, a lot more understanding of ergonomics and pilot skill I think we are ready to evolve the design towards anthropomorphous. Our first step was to turn the two inside legs around and our next step, as I'm sure you already guessed, will be to separate the hip and shoulder axes. Avatar AMP suit here we come!
