I'm a scientist and we genuinely think that video producers are nerds. LOL like my friends do triathlons, marathons, crossfit, etc. I think the funniest part is that 3 people in my lab are rowers, including myself.

Scientist can mean so many different things; I hate the term. Especially when someone hears me talking chemistry and they say something like "oh you're a scientist, * *insert random question unrelated to chemistry but vaguely science related* * ".

It's worse when you actually _do_ know the answer to what they're asking because it's tangentially related to something you've studied and you've learned at least a bit/enough to answer the question about... So you're just confirming their misconception by being able to answer while also exasperatedly trying to tell them that you don't know everything, that's not your field, not all science is the same, etc, haha

May I just say, as a service worker, the fact that Shane was willing to clean a bathroom that "wasn't under his jurisdiction" is very impressive. I would never clean a whole bathroom that I wasn't required to.

They had a panel at midsummer scream and they said when they asked if they could visit and do an investigation/ do research for this episode, they were denied. Also to visit just to visit is really expensive lol

Would've been the easiest part of the plan to write up two copies of the names/numbers/addresses/info to purposefully abandon one copy in the water to fake their deaths and get authorities off their backs... They had a phenomenally well thought out plan, I doubt they would've forgotten to add in a red herring for the cops after the escape.

"How hard is it to remember a phone number?" I found out the other week that my parents don't know my number at all. My dad left his phone at home and e-mailed my mom telling her to text me to see if I could bring his phone to his job and she e-mailed back that she didn't have her phone either and so neither of them were able to call me from their work phones because neither of them know what my number is. My dad said that the only reason he knows my mom's number is because it's only one digit different from his.

Before cell phones and caller ID, phone numbers were shorter and easier to remember. We also had to memorize them because it was a pain to go through phone books or the yellow pages, so it’s definitely possible that they had their family and friends contact info memorized.

I relate to your parents. The only reason I know my parents' numbers is because they both start the same as mine with the last four digits being different. My brother didn't manage to get the same starting numbers as us so I have no idea what his number is to this day.

Well back then it was different. We werent used to cell phones and all this technology that we now rely on. I even remember being a little girl and remebering family members numbers because we had a home phone that didnt save numbers. We had a phone book but i usually remebered the most important people like mom, dad, aunt and cousin.

Why didn’t you guys mention the theory that there was a boat waiting for them in the harbor? Inmates were saying that there was a light hitting the walls. Some inmates think it was a boat flashing its light to get the attention of the inmates. Once they got on the boat they probably dumped some stuff that they no longer needed. You can research on it more since I heard it when I visited the island. It seems the most realistic.

Ryan, I have a thing for you to check out (I simply feel you will appreciate more than Shane). I’m from Vermont, and there is a town in Southern Vermont that is casually know as the most haunted town in the state. It even has its own “Bermuda Triangle”, know as the Bennington Triangle. People have disappeared, and seen some crazy things...lots of different accounts and different theories. Just thought it might be worth the look! I found it interesting how you guys were making fun of the happy hour stuff and how "free" the prison seemed. I come from a country that is known to have really good prisons (and low rates of people being re-incarcerated) and it mostly seemed like standard stuff to me. Then again I did also find it amusing just based on the illusion I had of what the infamous Alcatraz prison would've been like haha.

To be fair - in some prisons like I think Norway, they have freedom but is still in a house. Like play video games, cook their own meals, watch tv, work out etc. But they don’t see their families or friends. So they are in confinement but they have rights to feel things because its a sense of loneliness not cruel punishment

jelly it’s to show them that they’re still human and a part of our society and they get training for the real world when they get out so they’re reformed (I think that’s the word). Last time I checked only 20% of released prisoners in Norway actually go back to prison. I hope this makes sense lol

I visited alcatraz a couple years ago and they still have the heads set up in the beds. I walked by with the audio tour on and as soon as i went into that section, i got chills. but only that section

#rippedscientists also on the topic of whether the inmates could have made it to shore in the raft or swimming; hadn’t they been doing physical labour in the prison, such as maintenance work, so probably were in a fairly good physical condition as well as the additional adrenaline rush. I think they definitely made it to shore and agree that the personal belongings in the water were left there intentionally 🌭

Yeah, and I mentioned in the comments that according to Wikipedia, the Anglin brothers were skilled swimmers. Quite disappointed in this Q+A video as there's no mention of the fate of the other guy, Frank Morris. Some suggested in the comments that he was murdered by the brothers to make it seem that they didn't survive (the body in the sea).

Also, people seem to not realize the fact that back then people couldn't rely on a contacts list on their phone to call someone. They actually memorized phone numbers back then for people they would call regularly. Even I still know some phone numbers by heart & I was born decades later.
