This movie has an incredible way of coming full circle story and character wise. I noticed how the characters' deaths complete their arcs. Hudson was scared throughout Aliens but dies standing his ground against what he was afraid of. Vasquez can't stand Gorman and he's depicted as being a wimp, yet he's the one who goes back to save her and dies a hero's death. Then Burke's whole agenda is wanting to capture a xenomorph and he gets killed by them.
To add to the Burke arc: he was always shown to be sympathetic to Ripley and had her back through the first portion of the film, especially with the edgier Marines. Then he's shown to be the culprit and sinister bastard that he is, and it's the tough as nails Marines who come to prove they're the ones with the heart to help Ripley and be there for her and newt. I think they would've ruined it. Take a look at the documentary about how this awesome movie was filmed, step by step. Most scenes in it were extremely complex and the actors as well as the background crew had to put so much effort night in and night out to fit all the pieces into the whole and get the action rolling. I think that's what made this film such a masterpiece, something a sophisticated computer animation of today cannot replicate.

To be fair, no film in the entirety of the Aliens Franchise has actually been a bonified hit since the second one. Subsequently, Colonial Marines have been completely out of the picture since the 80's. Coicindence? I think not. I wish they went with the District 9 director, or just dumped a truck load of money at James Cameron's house. Either one would better than Scott. I like Ridely Scott but he has got such a hit or miss ressume at this point. Also Prometheus and Covanent are both psuedo-intelectual, self-aggrandizing dog shit films. They ask a bunch of questions EVERYONE has already asked before and don't actually contribute anything new to the themes or discussion. In short you can pretty much go to a reddit shit posting blog and get the same experiance as watching Prometheus or Covanant. I think Niel Blomkamp would be the best man to handle this franchise.

Aliens, RoboCop, Terminator, and Predator. These movies have the re-watchable factor. Watched them as a kid in the 1980's and still watch them as an adult today. Gotta love 1980's Sci-Fi movies. And what are most sci-fi movies missing today? Good musical scores, practical effects, miniatures, clever camera editing, lighting, good acting, and no ulterior woke motive. Now all sci-fi movies looks so clean, vibrant, and new. They definitely need to bring back the dirty, dingy camera work of the cinematography of the 1980's.

I mean there are still amazing science fiction films being made pretty regularly. The void, blade runner 2049, her, everything done by neill blomkamp (he pretty much uses exactly this of this kind of gritty cinematography), arrival, fury road, edge of tomorrow, high life, ex machina, annihilation.... but however good these are you'd definitely be hard pressed to find environment and creature design as insane as those of alien. Part of this is that these qualities were actually incredible for the time and still look amazing today, and also the designs of giger themselves which is difficult to reference/homage without seeming derivative. It's a pretty specific horror he was going for with all the sexual imagery with the eggs, chestbursters, engineer architecture design etc. Don't know what you're getting at with the ulterior woke motive stuff though, even these 80s movies had a LOT of stuff to say politically, especially robocop lol. Not so much with predator but it's pretty obvious that terminator, aliens, and robocop criticize aspects of reagan's neoliberal capitalism by taking it to its logical endpoint with various sci fi twists. Surveillance states and unsafe mechanized soldiers/police that are created to increase an uber rich company's profit margin? That's terminator and robocop for ya. Robocop's even got some pro union/strike commentary in there which would've been subversive given the anti-union rhetoric of the reagan admin. Alien and aliens deal more with worker expendability/exploitation, as we have a blue collar starship being used as a testing ground for weyland-yutani's alien studies, something they saw as highly profitable. Sure, politics aren't necessary for a good film, but it sure makes them interesting and relevant, given the whole history repeating itself thing

Bill Paxton was the unsung hero of 80s action movies...he went out quick against the terminator, but he squared up with the xenomorphs and predator...We salute you Billπ―

A really good parallel to the stories told of Vietnam. They prepared and bunkers down but they didn't KNOW the compount/land they were holed up in... the enemy did. It's their house, and they knew where to come in and KNEW they would miss it. Great writing.

This is truly the best scene in this movie. I cant tell you how many times I replayed the VHS tape over an over of this scene...."The ship is on its waaay eta 16 minutes." "Good! Stand by there we're on our way"

One thing I like about Hudson and Gorman as characters is that after both of them seemingly break during/after the first encounter with the Xenos, they get back up, pull their weight in preparation for the next attack and hold the line when it comes (instead of panicking/freezing up again) before going down swinging

Hudson was always my favorite. He went out like a boss

Hudson claimed he was the ultimate badass and proved it in the end. Even Hicks didn't appear to score as many kills as Hudson did in this scene. He's one of those guys I wished survived in the end.
@Dreamzkape3 ΡΠΎΠΊΠΈ ΡΠΎΠΌΡ
Well, Hudson was taken (as was Newt), so technically he could have survived. You never really know, because I refuse to accept Hudson's "fate" in the *ALIENS: Colonial Marines* game. That's why Bill Paxton said he'd love if there was a way for him to return in the now-cancelled Alien 5 film that was gonna treat *Alien 3* and *Resurrection* as hyper-sleep dreams. A shame. It could've been a great film from the concept art I saw with Hicks returning and Ripley being fused with Alien DNA (not like in *Resurrection*) to become a bioweapon. The Company actually succeeded in weaponizing the Alien without issues in the story here. I think Ripley was used in a way to control them or something, can't remember.
@galatian53 ΡΠΎΠΊΠΈ ΡΠΎΠΌΡ
@@Dreamzkape I remember some concept art for Aliens: CM where they show a bearded Hudson that apparently survived.
