My team did something similar except I just step in out of bounds they would throw me the ball and then take off down the court, teammates would screen and I'd throw it to the original guy throwing the ball in down the court for an easy score.

I don't think so. A player can step out of bounds, but they can't be the first to receive the in-bounding pass. This sort of scheme might work with players lined up just above the line
