You've probably heard about the fact that processors are made in Russia, and even thought about whether this was a reason for pride or just for a bitter grin. But interesting answers to other questions: how much Russian in Russian procedures and what are they suitable for?
In this material all the most notable domestic microprocessors from the company "MCTST" and "Baikal" are considered.
Amendments:
* The business plan of the company MCTS does not rely on the military. Money is given by the Ministry of Industry and Trade;
* e2k is Elbrus architecture;
* The video does not mention the MCTS processor R1000 - it is presented in the table at 13:16 seconds;
* Baikal Electronics does not have its own production facilities and all blocks are purchased, while the company MCST develops everything by its efforts;
* MCST has 2 microprocessor lines. The first is really Spark-compatible microprocessors of the "R" series with RISC-architecture. The last R-1000 is a 4-core processor with a frequency of 1 GHz;
The second is Elbrus - a purely Russian development with a long command word and a clear parallelism of the VLIW / EPIC commands. Sparks with such an architecture simply never existed;
* Elbrus has some hardware parts fully compatible with IA-32/64 architecture: segment registers, command / stack pointer, floating-point format 32, 64 and 80 bits and some others;
* Elbrus is able to execute the x86 code in the "dynamic translation" mode, when the x86 object codes are replaced by a special translator program with native Elbrus codes with the same functionality, because the commands for data transfer, addition and subtraction, etc. they are approximately the same everywhere in the actions performed;
* The cost price of Elbrus is exactly the same as for any other chip for a batch of a certain amount: 10,000 chips, 50, 100, etc. And it's about $ 40-50 per chip;
* At 2:40 the mention of the term "megaflops" is incorrectly interpreted: flops is a quantity used to measure the performance of computers, showing how many floating point operations per second the given computer system is performing.
PS Microprocessors "Elbrus" from the company MCTS at the moment are produced in a limited edition of approximately 1000 pieces per year. Distributed only to legal entities. At the moment, only one chip is produced on the territory of the Russian Federation according to the technological standard of 90 nanometers - Elbrus 2SM: it is manufactured in Zelenograd at the Mikron plant. All other processors to produce on the territory of Russia at the time of this video is impossible because of the lack of plants with technological standards below 90 nm. The other processors are Taiwanese company TSMC. Microprocessors MCTST "Elbrus" are designed in the territory of the Russian Federation.
With the passage of time, the state of affairs may change.
