Let's take a minute to appreciate what James has done. It was his dream to build The Powerloader, and he met Bogdan on the way. There wasn't a place for James to build The Powerloader, so he had to make Hacksmith Industries. James is so busy running the company, he barely has time for his projects now but Bogdan can still live the dream James couldn't. I think it's overlooked how selfless a guy James is, and I hope he gets a chance to read this and see that people recognize it

@Synthmilk
@Synthmilk 2 роки тому
Well to be fair, they modeled it to be strong vertically to support and raise the forearm. They also haven't worked with a hydraulic pump as powerful as the one on the BobCat, especially with pistons as large as the ones here. It simply didn't occur to them it could move side to side with enough force to bend half inch structural steel. I wonder if they will settle for just adding some braces to the existing design or will do a more robust redesign.

No joke, this video was better than the Hacklorian. Better writing, way better pacing. Great job. A real team effort too, you can tell everyone has spent enough time with this in their heads that they know how to talk about it and what's interesting about it. Faux VCR instructional vid and voiceover was a fun gag and not overdone. Appreciate the powerloader sacrificing life and limb for the sake of demonstration. Starting to see the penalty for everything being overbuilt. The farther towards the ends of the extremities, the more that weight throws itself around. One worry I have is your rope-based sensors. A chunk of debris or a snapped hose whips that unprotected line, and suddenly Loader's central nervous system is having phantom movement, with potentially terrifying compensating results. The closer this thing gets to the finish line, the more terrified I am of just how real and dangerous it is.
@AP2922
@AP2922 2 роки тому
Can we all stop to appreciate the time in this build? Not only in physically building things but also in research. They could have called this done a couple of episodes ago and filmed a test sequence, gingerly of course. But they are taking the time to make this a full blown industrial machine, not just as prop. And along the way having to figure out new problems like fine motor control, and how to use it without dying. Identifying new problems, then finding solutions on the market, approaching those companies for help, and then figuring out how to integrate the thing. I'm very impressed!

A pretty neat thing would be to run the inverse kinematics off of a pair of VR controllers. You can set up the camera system on the roll cage and have it feed back into the ROS. This would greatly increase the ease of use of the arms and would probably make the loader more useful. I could totally see it being used to move around large chunks of scrap cars/trucks and move them around with much more dexterity than a forklift or crane.

Best part about the power loader series? I'd say it's seeing engineering at work and how a project grows and evolves over time. There are so many things going on, not just with the project itself but also with the people involved. Plans you made get messed up because something happens you didn't or simply couldn't anticipate ahead of time. You get to see every decision being made and even how they deal with such problems. It also shows you can't predict everything you will need for a project. What initially may seem like a great idea, once you start using it in practice you may realize you need something different. Not to mention that over time, you start to find better parts, tools, and equipment you could really use.

Well it moves on tracks so it's not really a mech but its close enough. I don't want to downplay how cool this project is tho. With Hacksmith building a power loader and Boston Dynamics building agile robots which can walk on 2 legs it feels good to be a Mecha fan :3.

I'm so happy to see that the power loader can move fast unlike the 1:1 Gundam in Yokohama japan
@TheRealAlpha2
@TheRealAlpha2 2 роки тому
To be fair the 1:1 Gundam is only a fun little attraction, while these guys are trying to actually make a full on functional mech. Although, I've always joked that Japan actually has spent billions of dollars on actual giant robots already and they're just waiting for aliens to show up to whip them out.
@kantpredict
@kantpredict 2 роки тому
The 1:1 Gundam is about 10x the size of this and is pretty much just a puppet on a stick. Moving something that big fast is an engineering problem we haven't solved yet. At least, not within the GDP of single countries.

Hacksmith should build a terminator programmed to get a red bib that the Hacksmith will wear. The HACKSMITH can use any of his builds he has made over all the years to defeat the terminator and prevent it from getting the bib. That would be awesome! Who agrees?
