John Carvell I think that weak signal is from mmWave, which is capable of really really fast download speed (like more than Gb/s). But most of the times I think we’ll experience sub 6Ghz 5G which is a little bit faster than LTE but as reliable.

In Ireland, a country with 12$ an hour minimum wage, you don't get good 4g in the middle of the capital Dublin. The 4g is so bad here sometimes it's under 10 mb/s

Depends where you are...am getting 80-160mbps and upto 415mpbs on my "4G" note10 here in Bahrain. It TOTALLY depends on your carrier

They big 3 Mobile providers have to hype it. It's the only way they can generate enough demand to get money from investors for the multi decade roll out of new fiber lines to feed a 5g micro cell every 500 feet.

Yeah 855+ got an improve gpu by 15% over normal 855..but since it was OC..the heat it produce kinda high..and not really good for a long period gaming..unless got a proper cooling for it..as for 865..it was already got a base that it stronger by 20% than 855 non OC..longer period gaming not a problem for it..even if it using a standard cooling system..

The only generation that isn't needed is 3G. 2G as a fall back for 4G voice calls, 4G for VOLTE and 5G because its the future standard

@@4rzaluz I suppose it depends on which country and mobile network you're on. I know some use 2G and 3G for calls, some only use 2G or 3G. It's just that pretty much everywhere gets 2G. It's just that 3G was originally meant for data rather than calls and 4G is most places these days. In areas with 5G and 4G, 3G won't be needed because VOLTE is better

No, that isn't true. The Snapdragon 765 has an integrated 5G modem (but I agree at 8nm). But the BIG difference is the capabilities of the modem. I am doing a video about this next week. The modem in the Kirin 990 is weak compared to the external modem of the X55. In fact the Kirin 990's modem is weak compared to the SD765.

Maybe but they did integrate it on the 765 SoC. Huawei would hit higher speeds on their 990 than what they're currently getting, if they didn't integrate it, so there are disadvantages to integrating it on the SoC. So it's not like Huawei's Kirin 990 which is a direct competition to the 865 is clocking better speeds with the 5G modem being integrated.

Bonedatt I don’t believe Kirin 990 is constrained by power and heat like 965 because the 5G version have more IPU than the 4G version. No reason to integrate more heat source of heat constrained.

No, unfortunately Qualcomm is very secretive about its GPU. I have tried very hard to get more info, but they won't reveal anything. BTW, Adreno is Qualcomm's own design, it isn't related to the Mali GPU.

Huawei integrated modem has some limitations & not the best, so Qualcomm only integrated 5g on chip in midrange chips it has lower max speed, same with Samsung only midrange has integrated 5g

Well, if you dream about it! SD 865 has Cortex A77, when Kirin 990 is on A76. Kirin 990 is also using older G76 GPU.

@@GaryExplains New functionality that is of no use to most people is useless. In my country they haven't even finalized 5G spectrum. Their is already fight among our military, our space research organization and telecoms for spectrum. How will we benefit from increased cost of 5G modem when a 4G modem would have been more than enough for us.

Well, a few things. 1) Cellular companies won't roll out 5G if there aren't devices that support it. So the handsets have to come first. It also means your phone is future proofed so that when 5G does come out, your phone can use it. Also not every one live in your country, some live in places where 5G is being deployed. 2) You are assuming there will be an extra cost, that might be true, but I don't see that as a big issue. I don't think the price of a Snapdragon 865 phone will leap from say $800 to $1000 just because of the 5G. 3). If you are buying a flagship device you are already happy to spend $800 maybe even $1000 on a smartphone, why are you moaning about the price?

Average life of a phone is not more than 2 years which is how much minimum time it will take for meaningful 5G coverage. Didn't you see how last year flagships with 5G coverage were priced compared to 4G counterparts? While I agree Qualcomm won't be charging that high for OEMs but their prices aren't transparent like AMD or Intel. OEMs can charge anything in the name of 5G. Not just my country most countries don't have 5G. Last year;s 5G phones cost more because the companies could charge more for them (and make more profit), not because they cost more to make due to the 5G modems. And if you are worried about the price of the next flagship killer from Poco or Realme, don't worry. The designers of those devices are experts at cutting corners and remove features to hit the price point. I am sure they will manage that with the SD865 as well.

The X55 modems supports 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G.

5G uses two frequency ranges sub 6GHz, which is similar to the frequencies used in 4G and in Wi-Fi, and mmWave. There is lots of talk about mmWave being line of sight only, which is true in that it doesn't pass through obstacles very well, but it isnb't quite line of sight. But "5G" is sub-6 and mmWave.

@@Utzpah That's because their mobile networks don't have the right frequency bands that penetrate buildings well yet. In the rush to say they have 5G first or the fastest they buy up some of the spectrum and don't have the entire frequencies that would make 5G usable most of the time
