ICC’s arrest warrant for Putin. Suspilne News explains how it isolates the Russian president and brings him closer to the trial for the war crimes. On March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued arrest warrants for Russian President Putin and the Russian Commissioner for Children's Rights, Lvova-Belova. Both are suspects in the illegal forced transfer of Ukrainian children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia. According to the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine, the Russian Federation has already managed to deport more than 16,000 children.
This is the first decision from the International Criminal Court regarding Russia's war in Ukraine and only the fourth such example in history. Why were the first warrants issued precisely for this crime and whether the ICC will be able to punish Putin if he does not appear on trial in the Hague, Suspilne News explains.
