A few reasons dietary issues are more common now- 1- improved cleanliness has a side effect of reduced exposure to triggers causing the body to react in more dramatic ways 2- increased vitamin D deficiency, vitamin d is good for the immune system, and in the modern world it’s harder to get enough for several reasons 3- identification, we’re better at recognizing them now, if someone becomes sick or dies, we are able to identify the cause. 4- Survival rates, We aren’t letting them die most of the time, it’s more preventable now, and with less people dying, obviously that increases the number somewhat.
@tacticallemon751815 днів тому
about 1 and 2, the Hygiene Hypothesis is a Hypothesis, meaning we don’t currently have significant evidence to support it secondly, an allergic reaction is the body reacting to something it assumes to be a threat, a weaker immune system would lead to less severe reactions, not more reactions If anything, it would appear as if someone has less allergies than they do if their immune system was compromised because the severity might not even tip you off that it’s an allergic reaction But yea, 3 is also why people believe vaccines cause autism or allergies, as we get better at identifying diseases, autism, and allergies, we get better at treating and preventing diseases (vaccines) On the surface, it looks like Vaccines cause allergies and Autism if you’re looking for proof that they do i think the main reason is that it was more common for children to be forced to eat what’s on their plate and told to not whine about it than it is today

Improved hygiene - I would like to mention a surprising part of this is... PARASITES are actually really good for calming your immune system! I'm not talking about tapeworms or those kinds but most people have several small parasites and they generally get them as children when they ate dirt and stuff! And with new standards of clean children are exposed to so few common parasites that yeah ppl are more sensitive to foods and it can cause allergies It's actually to the point that if humans make it to other planets it would be beneficial to bring a couple jars of earth dirt for kids to play in

An intolerance isn't the same as an allergy. Allergy = immune response a.k.s. your immune system is going crazy in response to something. Intolerance = Your digestive system throws a fit about it. Both can vary from mild to severe and both can be deadly (anaphalaxis can kill you, so can severe dehydration from diarrhea). But a true allergy always involves an immune response. While an intolerance will generally only affect the digestive system.

This reminds me of a Reddit story where a mother had been through so much trying to figure out what her daughter was allergic too after coming home from the hospital with her second child - going as far as to move to a different home and try to remove any potential allergens from the home. Finally, she figured out her daughter was allergic to coconut! It made sense why she never recovered despite everything the mom was doing because it was a custom in their culture to put coconut oil in their hair. Of course once learning this she removed any coconut products from her home and stoped using it in her and her eldest daughter’s hair. But her mother didn’t. She knew all about the daughter’s allergies and had even gotten in trouble previously from bringing coconut oil near the daughter. Unfortunately one night while babysitting the girls, the grandmother decided to put coconut oil in both of their hair and when the younger daughter with the allergy (obviously) started to have an allergic reaction to it, she gave her friggin Benadryl which resulted in the child dying in her sleep! The family was obviously furious and has since and probably will forever have nothing to do with her - because her refusal to acknowledge her granddaughter’s allergy lead to her death.

severely allergic to citrus...can't drink orange juice or have anything with limes, lemons etc. in it...once in a restaurant made my allergy known yet when i got my burger there was some aioli mayo on it that had lemon juice in it...luckily I KNEW what was in that sauce so I didn't eat it but #1 when the burger was described in menu that wasn't listed as being on it and #2 the waiter was told and obv. didn't relay the msg.

Was it a fancy restaurant? I went to one of those fancy restaurants and had to reiterate every time I ordered that I was allergic to nuts because they didn't seem on it. Was fine until it got to desserts and I ordered raspberry sorbet. It came out with red crushed up biscuits that we were 99% sure were macarons. Luckily I'm not allergic to almonds but the waitress wasn't getting our concerns and kept saying "it's just edible decoration", so we asked for her manager and he wasn't getting our concerns so we asked to speak to the head chef who finally worked out their mistake and profusely apologised. It really boggles my mind how carefree people without allergies live.

I have lived my life basically allergy free. When I joined the Navy in the early 2000s NKDA, no known drug allergies, became a pretty common thing to list on all medical forms. Eventually I got out and my fiance wanted to practice her special effects. From out of litterally nowhere...I learn I am severely allergic to latex. Like my skin forms blisters just from being in contact with any form of it. Recently, my fiance went glutten free, flavor didn't matter to me anyways due to covid messing up my taste. On the good side most stuff prominately labels whether it contains gluten or not...on the bad side there are products which one would expect to be gluten free and I now understand the need for the gluten free label. It is so important that if we can't tell, we tend to not buy it. The difference in my fiances gut health is super noticeable. It is frustrating because people seem to genuinely not care and it really is a problem we need to address as a society. I really do feel for anybody who has to live with people like the lady in this video who believes allergies are made up.

When getting to know each other I told them directly I am allergic to mushrooms. Turns out they all thought food allergies weren't real and on one of our spaghetti nights added minced shrooms to the sauce. Got to see me break out in hives and start throwing up all over and got freaked out. One ambulance visit later they admitted to adding the shrooms and got schooled right there pretty hard. They had to pay my medical bills and I returned home opting to deal with a long commute to and from collage.

Food allergies are incredibly dangerous, but some people genuinely lie about having food allergies which makes some people doubt all food allergies. I’ve used to work in the restaurant industry for years and the amount of times I’d overhear people talking at a table about a dish that they wished came w/ or w/out this particular ingredient or whatever & then I’d hear another person quietly tell them “just tell the waiter you’re allergic to that & ask them to replace it whatever you want” 🙄😑🤦♀️ Or they’d tell us oh I’m deathly allergic to mushrooms or something & so their server would come back and ask the cook to make it separately from everything else due to the persons “allergy” & we’d have to be super careful when bringing out their food to make sure we didn’t have any trace of whatever the food was on our hands and then the next week the same person would come in and order the steak smothered in mushrooms & onions thinking either the server wouldn’t remember them or that since I wasn’t their server that night I wouldn’t know they had lied about it 🙄 I’ve actually pulled a Nicole from the bistro huddy videos & called a few of these people out & let me tell you their faces would be priceless 😂 or they’d try to lie again and say they got over the allergy or “a new medication came out that allows them to eat whatever they want” so I’d ask them what that med was bc my kid is also deathly allergic to______ & they would stammer all over the place or I’d just outright call them a liar and tell them that they’re making it hard on people who actually have allergies. There are actually cats that don't trigger allergic reactions! There's a specific protein or oil in cat hair that triggers the allergic reaction and some cats have been bred to not produce that protein/oil! I forget what it's called exactly but there are hypoallergenic cats! Just look up "hypoallergenic cats" and you can see different breeds that (hopefully) won't give you an allergic reaction!

Have you seen the new thing with chicken eggs and cat allergies? It's fascinating, but if you raise chickens with cats, they'll start to make a thing for cat allergens. Then you take the eggs and feed them to the cats, and the cats stop making the allergen. It's really wild, but I swear it's a real thing. So now, you can buy anti-allergen cat food to make your cats not give you allergies! Don't take my word for it, ask Google.

@Jane-jw1ls15 днів тому
The increase in allergies is actually true. This is due to a whole bunch of things like people being more aware of them meaning those with these allergies being less likely to die, people having this issue being less taboo, but a big thing that affects everyone is the kind of thing we eat and consume- and no I’m not saying like eating peanuts while pregnant will fix the problem. It’s more like the micro plastics and medications having long term affects. It’s really fascinating if you have the time but studies show that the food and water we consume contains plastics that can imitate certain chemicals and hormones in the body causing a decrease of these vital components which can lead to complications and issues down the road. But this only accounts for some health issues like deficiencies, autoimmune disorders, etc. these allergies could more likely be caused by genetics or maybe a mixture of everything. I have a food allergy myself and it oddly only affects just the girls in the family so taking the time to learn about this subject is important to me but is also fascinating if anyone is bored and has the time 👍

Food allergies and intolerances have always existed like diabetes and asthma have always existed as health issues. We're just better at identifying it now and those with more severe cases aren't dying in childhood the way they used to. Like no duh people seem to have more varied allergies, when the kids allergic to rarer things before had deadly reactions, they died. Just like when asthmatic people used to have asthma attacks, they died. And when diabetic people used to have their blood sugars spike to hell, they died. Turns out when people stop dying, more people with these issues, are alive, at the same time, rather than in graves by the age of 8.

Im in a case study for food allergies. My dairy allergy and gluten sensitivity was caused by an autoimmune disease as an adult. It started as anemia without a cause and I ended up pre-leukemic and at the cancer center because of it. After genetic testing my children and grand daughter have the dna to get the same thing. Allergies can develop into auto immune diseases too. The scary part was how close to getting leukemia i was from eating my favorite food!!! Most people still think its all a myth. But research into whats causing autoimmune diseases and doctors doing more testing is a big factor in why there are more cases of food allergies now. They were just undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
@kimvannatter521413 днів тому
Yeah some kid our the Sunday school notes wasn't allowed to have gluten, and the (older) lady in charge was like "Pfft. Everyone's got SOMETHING these days." I told her I found out as an adult I couldn't have dairy and I stopped having episodes of stomach cramps and vomiting (not the more common lactose intolerance, takes a few days to show symptoms which made it super tricky to discover). There was zero thoughts of "getting attention" in removing dairy from my diet. But also my mom has always had "mystery health issues", it's just less info & awareness meant she suffered silently. Older generations just assumed their health issues were meant to be tolerated (like incontinence for the rest of their life cause they had a baby, versus visiting a pelvic floor PT).

I ordered a drink (forgot which) with almond milk, making it clear that I COULD NOT have regular milk. Flash forward to boarding the plane, and an all too familiar feeling in my gut starts brewing. They put regular milk in the coffee. My intestines felt like balloon animals and I genuinely thought I was going to explode. The pain was so horrible I couldn't even stand up or walk to the bathroom, but eventually I had to just power through it. If that plane ride had been any longer, I could've died. Looking back, I should've reported that to Starbucks management. Allergies and Intolerances should be taken WAY more seriously in the service industry and in general.
