I've seen a lot of comments about how they hated Emma for braking up with Alyssa and no, they both have their reasons and they are both valid. I'm going to be talking about Emma, she wasn't forcing Alyssa to come out but some of y'all don't know how hard it is to be in a relationship like that, be constantly hiding and with the fear of anyone discovering your secret. They are both right, nobody is the “bad” person in this relationship.

Ariana’s acting was amazing in this!! She was very relatable and I’m sure many kids, including myself, related to Alyssa’s character. Be it coming out, or wanting something else besides the life your parents want you to lead you know your parents work hard to give you the life you have so you don’t want to disappoint them. I loved her performance both in Hamilton and in The Prom and I can’t wait to see her in West Side Story!!

Yup there is a reason that Ariana was nominated for a Tony for her performance in The Donna Summer Musical. Can't wait to see her as Anita in Spielberg's re-imagining of West Side Story.

Staying in the closet isn't ideal for Alyssa but she feels like she has to be perfect or she'll disappoint her mom, someone who she still cares about despite everything. Then on top of that she's also trying to juggle a relationship with Emma. Now, I am glad Emma broke up with Alyssa because her feelings are completely valid too and she was no longer comfortable having their relationship be a secret. Secret relationships only work if both partners agree and are comfortable with it but even then keeping it a secret can only last so long. Emma wasn't pressuring Alyssa to come out by breaking up with her, she was merely saying that they no longer see eye to eye on keeping their relationship a secret and that's okay but their different view points make it difficult to be in a relationship together so the break up was a good call. It's just a sucky situation for both of them seeing as they are still in love but it had to be done. So for all the couples like this in the world support your partner if they are in the closet but only as far as you are comfortable with. You deserve to be happy in the relationship too.

i really related to this song because im a supposed child prodigy, succeeding in all but really i do it because i cant face disappointment from my parents. my parents are somewhat christian and my brother and sister straight but i'm bisexual and in the closet. long hair is a must from my mom until my sister disobeyed the unspoken rule for the warren women and cut my hair. my mom is still upset about how i stand out in my family of russian dolls. i commented on my weight and how much sugar i consume every time a crumb is so much near my mouth. its made me insecure and i've developed anxiety from it.

The ONLY plot hole I found in this movie was that Alyssa's mom didn't find it the tiniest bit suspicious that her daughter, who she demanded perfection out of, didn't have a straight date to the prom. She was just totally okay with her going stag....to the prom. This is the woman who said she had to win homecoming queen. And in that scene clearly had a date since the king was wearing the same color as her.
