Amanda Seales joins Shannon Sharpe at Club Shay Shay for a conversation full of raw honesty about her life, career, and personal journey. Opening up about her Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, Amanda discusses the challenges she's faced due to misconceptions about her personality, emphasizing her literalness and the difficulties it can create in social interactions. Reflecting on her upbringing, Amanda credits her supportive mother for accepting her and providing a strong foundation, despite societal norms. Then, Amanda shares her childhood memories of working for Disney and Nickelodeon, explaining how her experiences were unlike those depicted on the documentary All Quiet on Set, despite facing racism from other children. Amanda opens up about the complexities of navigating academia, like how she almost faced expulsion based on the accusations of another student which forced her to create her own major. Amanda comments on the growing number of hip-hop beefs, how they are good for the genre if they force performers to elevate their music, and says Nas won his beef vs Jay-Z. Amanda remarks on why her time with Floetry wasn’t always the smoothest which is punctuated by her being aired out on the Wendy Williams Show. Amanda recounts how she got her start in radio as a result of her poetry, having her first interview while working for Sirius be of OutKast, and how industry politics involving Jay-Z and Pusha T ultimately got her fired from Sirius. Continuing on the subject of industry politics, Amanda shares the time she was kicked out of the Black Emmy’s party because Issa Rae’s publicist wanted her gone, which led to a scuffle and confusion. Amanda goes further into the tumultuous relationship she’s had with Issa Rae’s publicist over the years and how it’s spilled over into her work on Insecure, which created a work environment that ultimately has led Amanda to disagree with Lil Rel’s opinion that Issa creates environments that empower women. Amanda also touches on other sets and productions like Bring the Funny, The Real, hosting the BET Awards during COVID, and working with Kevin Hart. Amanda also discusses Queen Latifah coming to her defense, Candace Owens, Emmanuel Acho’s comments about Angel Reese, and how her expectations for dating differ drastically from Shannon’s. This second portion of the interview is a testament to Amanda's unwavering courage and resilience, as well as her commitment to speaking truth to power in pursuit of justice and authenticity.

As a white male who grew up with a culturally diverse extended family . 100% Racism in all forms is LEARNED as is colourism within each race. I had friends of all colours and ethnicities and only understood is all to be different not “different” I do believe Children brought up in racist environment don’t understand the effect or impact of their behaviour being racist because it’s simply what they’re brought up with no less excusable but up to an age ( because if your not being educated at home it your being taught at school ) it’s about the fact that your hurting someone period regardless of context and correcting that behaviour immediately. You blame the upbringing not necessarily the product. Unfortunately it’s all learned behaviour … children are not born thinking their differences can be perceived as negative be it race lifestyle gender sexuality religion….. they are taught to be cogniscent of these perceptions based on things passed on . The hard part on both sides is just letting go. On one side it’s realizing your ancestors passed issues have nothing to to do with your current existence understand we are just people and differences are surface level in every way . On the receiving side it’s hard to let go of all the of the atrocities youre ancestors experienced as the hands of people with these issues , because while you’re world is different they went through it get you here and letting go may feel like you’d be denying their struggle so you end up carrying it forward in a way as well .

@@matthewlima7121 Racism is a form of otherism and humans are predisposed to some form of the latter. Studies have shown 1) We prefer people who look like us (or like someone in our family), 2) We prefer people we see as similar to ourselves, etc. So while a specific strain may be “learned”, we are easy to learn and apply it and in the case of “racism” of whites against non-whites, and for the former it has been immensely enriching and empowering as morally degrading as it may be, therefore it survives and perpetuates.

@@dutchdillinger3183exactly. And I think he’s right. No teacher is going to be ok with their students constantly correcting them in front of the class. Doesn’t matter if the teacher was right or wrong about the topic. The teacher would have complained either way. Amanda took it the wrong way. Amanda is one of those people who makes valid points a lot of the time but she lacks tact. She also doesn’t understand the concept of choosing your battles. In the first 5 minutes of the conversation I knew Shannon was gonna have to come outta the shallow end and join her in the deep. She holds conversations on multiple levels, understanding her experience in the context of structurial, cultural, and individual. Initially he didn't realize it was gonna be at that altitude. @rla8713 Many people with autism have this experience where they are bullied, exploited, and ostracized! Even if people didn't like her, why are they comfortable at openly humiliating her, saying cruel things to and about her! That type of behavior is inappropriate regardless if they like a person or not! Even if I don't particularly care for someone, I don't need to gossip, slander, judge, or humiliate another human being because that isn't a reflection of that person, it's a reflection of me. Now, if someone does something to you, then you directly go to that person and address it. My heart goes out to autistic individuals because they aren't harming anyone. They just operate, process, and show up differently than mainstream society! But they deserve to be seen, heard, and respected as well!

Watching her lead him through the logic of his own words that he didn’t realize was so beautiful. The thing I’ve learned is that most people just run their mouths with no consistency to what they are saying and they don’t even realize the implication of their words. Most people communicate very poorly. The number of times I’ve had someone argue with me over what they assumed I meant instead of accepting the words I said is equal to the number of people I’ve had to walk through their own comments to show them they didn’t say what they meant. It’s so exhausting. But sure she’s the one that’s being difficult for wanting logical consistency and understanding.

@@technicaldeathmetalhead she definitely hasn't been clinically diagnosed because she refuses to even pay money for her supposed autism diagnosis. But when everyone around you hates you, you constantly lie about things, inflate you're ego by calling yourself kind, humble a Genius, comparing yourself to MLK. Saying offensive words to people and thinking you didn't do wrong, but they did and countless other stories with this lady. My personal opinion is that she definitely has some sort of narcissism within her. Especially when she got so upset at Shannon for simply wanting her to clarify that she got a clinical diagnosis for autism and decided to immediately play victim and claim how he's trying to twist things. If none of those get you close to thinking someone's are narcissist. Then maybe there's something else that's wrong with her. When a person is exposed to an environment where they have to make a choice to fight for what is right or just comply with or be passive to what is happening, then they choose to fight or speak out!! this is the result!! Constantly fighting for yourself and others will mold you to a particular character. Being real all the time is a lonely path, you can not subject yourself to things like validation. If you do, you will be broken, and your conviction will be lost along with your identity that was molded by the environment that made you.

@notthe1_orthe2 it helped me see my own biases with her and others. Life is about constant evolution + growth. I too followed narratives about her coming from some of those news outlets. I mean, honestly, if she was diagnosed Asperger‘s, she definitely has all the traits of Asperger‘s. My sister has Asperger’s and she is very much like Amanda. In fact, she calls herself a truth teller. The problem with these people is that they have to be taught to understand that they are not always right Because they really believe that they are always right and everyone else is wrong and they can never ever get their mind around the idea that they might be fallible. They think it’s their job to tell people about themselves but they don’t like to be told about themselves at all, so they’re kind of sociopaths away also and she calls herself an empath, but these people are not empathic. They do feel deeply but they have a lot of trouble understanding what they say and do affects other people so I think she definitely is on the spectrum.
