Keep in mind planes flew pretty slow back then. Always a progression of both skills and technology. Analogy, kids and skateboards. Im 61, got the first skateboard with urethane wheels when I was about 11. It was a big deal just hanging on going down a hill. In the 80s and 90s pros started getting air, doing kickflips. Now every 5 year old on my block is doing that shit. Or how about EVH playing eruption in 1977... Now 8 yo girls do it on youtube.

@OneTequilaTwoTequilaРік тому
@@AlexdAviator You're on the right track with relativity, but the speed of the carrier is NOT almost zero relative to the speed of the plane. If it was, they'd have the same speed, and the plane would never catch up to the carrier. If the speed of the carrier was 20 knots and the wind was blowing at 25 knots, then the 'relative' approach and touchdown groundspeeds of the plane would be reduced by 45 knots vs. a no-wind approach to a land runway. Headwinds help, and the speed of the carrier into the wind helps additionally.

Imagine your runway is always moving it’s never in the same place on top of that it pitches up and down and rolls left to right. I don't believe we would see much in the dark of night. All landings whether by day or night are instrument assisted using some sort of glidescope to direct the pilot. He/she has to say "I got the ball" and a man on deck has to agree or the pilot has to go around. Also, we shoudn't expect the deck to resemble a Christmas tree as it's a ship of war that needs to hide wherever possible from potential enemies.

A navy fighter pilot is no less than a lieutenant. Need a four year degree and 6 year service minimum to begin simulator training. Usually 33-34 years old at first solo flight. Even higher for ships deck. Generally 10 years of flying then become commanders. It's a 20 year inlist minimum.
@glennoc8585Рік тому
@@jaydensdream714on't they start training from the moment they to military college? If they go in at 18, graduate at 22 then it's feasible they could be training in jets by 25. I knew a guy in England that joined the RAF in the 80s and he was flying Jaguars after only a couple of years going from a single prop trainer to a twin then to fighter. There was no degree perse you just went into officer training at the airforce equivalent to Sandhurst i believe. It's moved more to a bachelor degree in pretty much everything now so it doesn't surprise me if it takes longer to get into a jet or any military aircraft but I've seen American fighter pilots that are Still in their 20s. There's no long enlistment required that not true not sure where you got that from; Commercial airlines in America have loads of ex military guys and gals in their 30s the same with many countries. It's like when you come to a stop at an intersection in a car. You are steering, letting off the gas, and applying the brakes quite quickly with minor and gradual adjustments which you have practiced sufficiently to stop the car smoothly behind the line. Well if you're straight and level and not accelerating, you're not pulling any g's...

awesome skills! thank you for the fly along!🖖👍🏻

Now that is absolutely cool! Even losing my lunch with that sudden stop wouldn’t stop me from having a ride.
@chriswilliams58182 місяці тому
That takes skill and the stopping time is amazing

Love the 360 military pattern. So smooth too.

Thank you for sharing this with us in Lansing Michigan.
@leebrewer7394Рік тому
Sped up a bit right? That approach was way over 300mph.
@funnyguy1487Рік тому
It's a 30 second youtube short... it HAS TO BE SPED UP to fit!! F'k people are stupid.
@LOD3654 місяці тому
147KTS to be exact. Far less than 300mph. Thanks for playing.
@leebrewer73944 місяці тому
@@LOD365 no I agree the plane was doing 147knts. I was meaning with the screen sped up it looked like 300mph.

Carrier landings have come a long way. I wonder how many people remember the story of how this came into being. I think about those pilots' super courage also.
@JP66495 місяців тому
He was coming in hot! Outstanding job, aviator.
@Brunzy1970Рік тому
Dam, I always thought they slowed down alot more. That was like a controlled crash more than a regular landing.
@jb47vintageРік тому
Jeff Bruns. In case something goes wrong with the tailhook or the cables, the pilot has to be able to fly off the end of the carrier and stay airborne.

LOVE THE JETS...LOVED BEING ON THE AIR CRAFT CARRIERS AND WATCHING ALL THE VARIOUS PLANES TAKE OFF AND LAND. THRILL OF A LIFE TIME.
@joshuachandler6541Рік тому
I don't know if it's been sped up or not but man my heart was racing whenever is coming down to the carrier almost felt like I was in the cockpit too..lol
@iseriver3982Рік тому
It's sped up. It's kinda embarrassing you didn't realise that to be honest.
@letsplayvideogames227Рік тому
That’s what I was thinking, sped up for sure based on the head movements, the speed he took that bank at and the speed he landed on the carrier unless he was trying to kill everyone lol
@Boris822 місяці тому
It's crazy how fast the plane still goes right before the landing 😮
@fayayers2357Рік тому
I like this Video! I can be in the Cockpit without loosing All of my bodily function's!! You American Fighter Pilots, are Awesome!!💖✝️💖🇺🇸🦅

@mdc25418 місяців тому
I wouldn't want to try that in a video game. He circled the carrier and nailed the landing in less than a minute. No room for error at speeds like that.
@adamwhite19202 місяці тому
The speed at which he comes in to land is incredible

This was a quality landing he had speed all the way through marshal and bled it off on final tight turn. hit third wire like a boss

Overhead break is really the tightest and safest possible pattern.

One day I hope to fly with them.
@RIVERANIEVESZРік тому
Yeah,you keep dreaming! Do research on dreamers such as you that actually even come close to becoming pilots in the armed forces. Just coming close, not even the ones that make it to flight school and graduate, which is very, very HARD!!!!!!!!! You give it your all kiddo, but chances are you'll just be an officer with a story most people won't even be interested in hearing. You can still become a pilot though, and fly dog shit out of Hong Kong,lol,lol.

He kept on looking round like he was expecting the carrier might disappear?! Fantastic perception and a skill that you cannot teach... Great vid 🙂👍
@ThrustV-Рік тому
He was looking at the landing lights….
@rwisswellРік тому
but it was taught.
@ThrustV-Рік тому
@@rwisswell Are you talking about the lights that direct the pilot to land?
@jonnywilkinРік тому
@@rwisswell perception is taught is it?? I'm not sure about that mate. Is a skill that you learn from experience. I also believe that perception is instinctual to a certain degree. What do you think?
@johnlucier56549 місяців тому
@@jonnywilkinyou can only let instinct take control when youve learned the skills. That said not everyone who wants to fly gets to fly in the navy, and not everyone who gets USN wings goes on to an F18 carrier unit. (And not every one of them will be accepted to the Blue Angels) So with all that in mind you are both correct. Instinct alone might get you a VFR rating in a Cessna. If your daddy is an admiral you might even get your wings and keep them long enough to get shot down on a bombing run over hanoi, while the rest of your squadron followed standing orders and made it back safely. Thats another subject, but I like heroes that dont get shot down.
