I love how there is so much attention paid to the safety of the workers at this mill; helmets, goggles, ear protection, steel toe boots, gloves, saw shields, etc.. Must be a great worker's comp. plan there as well.

In the U.S., because lumber companies replant, we have more acres of forest now than we did a few decades ago. Old growth trees started as new growth, after all.

I'm not sure but this wood looks a lot like Bubinga, from Africa. Then seeing the CEMAC which I believe is Central African Economic and Monetary Community, it may be exported from Africa, from countries like Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Congo, and others to Vietnam for the processing. Mahogany typically has more figuring in the wood grain, and Bubinga, which is sometime called African Mahogany has more of a straight grain.

I love how so many comments are condemning this. Too funny. What is your furniture at home made from? What are the walls of your house made from? Wood is used for heating, cooking, construction, cabinetry, making bows and arrows for hunting, older fishing poles for fishing, It's a great product. It's a renewable resource that can be used to make almost anything. There's a type of wood called Lignum Vitae that is so hard it was used to make ball bearings for large ships. Wood is the mostly versatile, widely used resource on the planet. Sitka spruce is used to make masts for tall ships because it grows so straight and clear. Before condemning this do you have a better suggestion? Also, before complaining that this "1000 year old" tree was destroyed in vain maybe do some research about the industry. It might have been a standing dead tree that should have been removed for safety and to make room for new growth. Look at how many people have work because of this one tree. The truck driver, mill operators, lumber suppliers, carpenters, cabinet makers, artisans, etc......The firewood generated from the scraps can be used for heating and cooking. The sawdust will go to a farmer to use as clean bedding for livestock. It's real easy to be woke and ignorant in this day and age. Again, if anyone has a better suggestion please post it. I would love to hear from you. For anyone suggesting electricity please remember that 70 percent of the electricity generated on earth comes from burning coal.

A truck driver has a job, the millworkers all have jobs, the cabinet makers have jobs.......I don't see where your going with that. Wood is a terrific renewable resource. It makes houses and various other buildings, creates heat, used for cooking, making furniture, makes art work, landscaping projects etc.........For all we know that tree could have died naturally and is being used to its best potential.

You have to be careful what kind of wood you use to make logs a lot of exotic trees put off toxins when cut or burned a prime example of this and I know it for a fact the Brazilian cherry when it was first brought to the sawmill in Louisiana the workers began coughing up blood until they discovered that it was the oil in the wood that was toxic and they needed to start wearing face mask with respiration so that they wouldn't be breathing in the fumes

I feel you on this. However, how will we make lumber, plywood, paper, toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, paper plates, cups, cardboard, packaging etc. even things you don’t think of need wood. Like the paper face of drywall, MDF and all kind of other building supplies. Paper and things can be recycled but not at the rate of consumption. And many things can be made from new growth wood planted specifically for such products, But what about things that require bigger pieces of wood. Like 2x12” lumber for framing houses, or slabs for tables and cabinetry. They are doing a good job to replace the need for these materials with modern materials and veneers that can come from smaller, dedicated woods. But not everything can be made from new growth wood as it’s grown for speed. It’s wet and pulpy and lacks the density required for certain things. Lastly, trees have a life span. Big trees like you see on the truck could be nearing the end of their life span. Meaning soon it could just be dead rotting wood on the forest floor. It would serve a greater purpose as 1000 board feet of lumber rather than worm food on the ground.
@carbonEYE007
@carbonEYE007 5 місяців тому
@@MrMarkparkthis isn’t going to be toilet paper this wood is destined for luxury Aisan markets.
@MrMarkpark
@MrMarkpark 5 місяців тому
@@carbonEYE007like the table slabs I spoke about? Paper plates aren’t any more necessary than tables. But What it’s used for is irrelevant. It’s needed, there is plenty of it, the shortage isn’t as great as people think it is……… and like I said it could be nearing its life expectancy and needs to be used before it’s rotting on the forest floor.
