Witness the eerily beautiful growth of larvae into bees in this mesmerizing time-lapse video from photographer Anand Varma. Varma said the six-month project, for which he built a beehive in his workshop, gave him a new respect for the meticulous job of beekeeping.

@@AnasKhan-ht2tb there's capped honey in hives, they don't search for food. The queen also decreases egg production during winter because food is low and increases production in summer months when food is abundant. For those wondering, the varroa mites seen in the video are parasites that suck the hemolymph (Essentially blood) of the bees. This weakens the bee directly and also may lead to the transfer of viruses, which could significantly damage a bee colony.

Doesnt the bee security division stop them?
@H0kram
@H0kram 8 років тому
This parasite comes from south east Asia. Bees of this area can deal with it and kick their asses any day. Sadly, human activities imported those mites in Europe, North America, you name it...where bees never had to deal with this parasite. So they don't know what to do and if the infestation is big enough, it will eventually destroy the whole hive. It's a big, big problem. Some say it's the top reason of the disappearance of the bees along with pesticides. A worldwide problem. Beekeepers, bee's best friends, have their ways of dealing with varroa destructor ( the name of this god damn mite ). I think we should all be beekeepers if we have the chance. I know I will :)

A couple of years ago I found what looked like a very tired bee in my back garden. I picked him up with the use of a small stick but he wouldn't fly off. So I decided to give him some honey on a spoon. Looking at the bees in this video reminded me of that day, because near the end, you can see their tongues out, licking the sides of their 'birth channels'. I watched as the bee licked the honey from the spoon. He then flew off.

In one of the chapters of William Gibson's Neuromancer, the protagonist, Case, stares at a wasp nest cut in half while high. He compares it to a "biological machine gun" or something among those lines. He then starts going on about how perfect the "system" under which the wasps live is perfect and at the same time inhumane, with each wasp that dies being replaced by another one. He also says that he felt that looking at the nest was very unnerving for him. This video reminds me of that chapter.

What good do wasps do again? They're poisonous, and I don't want the insects themselves or nest around my living arrangements.
@samuelaraujomedeiros6682
@samuelaraujomedeiros6682 Рік тому
@@emilyandrews9857 What, do you think I keep a wasp nest on my living room or something? They have an important ecological job, though. And I'm sure they don't like you very much also. Though I don't blame them for that.

I think they were just laid later than the others. If you look early on in the video, you can see that their larvae look a lot smaller than the ones around them. So it's possible the others just got a head start and in a day or so they'll finish transforming, too.

Use Manley syrup to kill them off. I don't know the proportions, but you dissolve thymol in really pure grain alcohol, then mix a little of that into sugar and hot water to make a thin syrup for the bees to eat in the winter.

Seems bee larva tissue literally liquefy inside pupa and then reform in adult form. Would like repeated slower shot of hatching process. Probably feeding mite at 0:30 slowed down development of those pupas later.
