Interacting with #ameca humanoid robot. Images from the eye cams are processed using #tensorflow
Ameca reacts as things enter their 'personal space'. This is even starting to freak us out at Engineered Arts and we are used to it!

@AbAb-th5qe 2 роки тому
That's a nice sentiment, but is building robots of this sort the best way to help the infirm? I think it's not. Power suits like in iron man that help folks do things for themselves would give a greater sense of self determination. I think to build humanoid robots for such purposes would be rather narcisistic of the builders rather than coming from a genuine desire to provide care.

If we have ameca's facial expressions, with Boston dynamic's Atlas' mobility capabilities and connected to GPT-3, we would have the closest thing to an autonomous human like robot. Edit: to all the people asking why we should do this? Because it will improve our lives immensely. Everything from dangerous work, to manual labour to boring tasks will be handled by these robots. It does seem like they’re either programmed to reduce touching, or have logistically deduced with their own machine learning algorithms that it’s the best course of action. My bet is that pandemic protocols had something to do with that, but, it could also just be protection of expensive and hard to replace / fix hardware. Or just not liking being treated like a toy or circus show, I wouldn’t blame them for that if they ever began to logically deduce that certain human behaviors are kind of banal and casually offensive- even if it’s just a simulated mimicking of human attitudes (like the ketchup preference).

@@Teth47 "smarter than us" This is stupid. What defines intelligence? How do you define what's smarter or less smarter than you? IQ doesn't mean intelligence and it's full of flaws... A robot doesn't have "intelligence" whatever it means, in first place. A robot is just following its code and what someone gave to it in data and it's analyzing that data and giving rational responses. That's just it. It's not thinking by itself to have "intelligence". Intelligence in Artificial Intelligence is just a misleading term which confuses and deceives. "intelligence" is just a silly term to describe AI, the appropriated word would be machine learning and machine analyzer. It just seems to have intelligence because it formulates logical answers and seems to be thinking when talking to you, but it doesn't, it's just "emulating" intelligence, but it doesn't really have one.

We soon got internet at home for 70usd per month with a maximum of 28k8 bps connection speed. 5 months later we canceled the connection as there was nothing really on the internet. I remember IBM pc's with 5.25" floppies in 1985. And in 1996 I remember seeing the first digital glove so that you could control things in a virtual reality, a sort of metaverse. I then studied electrical engineering in 1997 as I loved building electronic devices. You think I never dreamed of robots? Did all my life, and now I am worried whether I live long enough to actually see this utopian world where machines help humans to become the best version of themselves...

Truly, I believe the androids of the future is going to be less like deadpan Terminators and more like the androids in Detroit Being Human. Of course there will be androids/robots that serve different functions, so their appearance will likely match that as well. No need for a pretty face if it's only going to get destroyed in the field.
