If they sense you are afraid they can become very protective and act aggressively toward people or other dogs. Ours was well-behaved on leash with confident members of our family but often felt the need to "defend" the nervous members of her pack, which would usually cause them to feel even more nervous. I doubt you would be in danger from your own Akita but strangers might end up feeling threatened by your dog if it doesn't feel like you're in charge of the situation.

Hmm!...two points of concern, no 1. The Akita is a primitive breed, their behavior is sometimes hard to read, you must expose them to other people and dogs while still puppy. they sometimes don't care for other dogs as they get older, especially of the same sex, they usually don't have that overwhelming need to please! No 2. They are a dominant breed, if you are timid, uncertain, not consistent with rules and training, they will sometimes take charge and they will run you in your own house! They can also be very food possessive. Firm and consistent training (short lessons) while still a puppy is critical! They are a great breed, but requires a firm person, let them know you are the alpha!

If you can handle a dog that "mouths" quite a bit. I'm on my third Akita, 8 month old boy, Cain, and it's definitely a trait with this breed. He is my first that doesn't get along with other dogs. It genuinely is just luck the temperament of the dog you get, reputable breeder definitely helps

I do not know it. When he was 12 months old, he was 70 cm tall.
