To clarify for everyone who hasn’t seen the movie. The enemy are alive “condensate”, made from human minds connected to an artificial body which is extremely cold so can kill to the touch and aren’t in the visible spectre of light (invisible) To fight it, the scientist of the team managed to modify military and optical gear to make guns that can fire blasts of plasma (extremely hot) to kill the condensate, and “spectral lights” that lets humans see the condensate at the naked eye. Those were mounted on the robots so that the humans can hold those big guns, and that’s why some were getting very close to the enemy, if they were in an area that wasn’t lighted by the robots, they couldn’t see them coming until the last moment.

Movie is called Spectral. The soldiers had to be close enough to their ghostly enemy. Their walking spot lights had to have close enough proximity to expose the spectres. Otherwise, the soldiers wouldn't have seen the spectres until there were within 5 feet and too close to survive by then. Also, their weapons had small magazines and were semi-automatic. The armor is completely useless because the specters don't shoot back, they pass through you, and if they do, it doesn't matter if you're in a tank or just standing there wearing your underwear. First part of this scene proves to anybody, regardless of whether of not they have seen the movie, that the troops can see the "ghosts" from around 50 meters. So there is no need to close further with your heavy weapons squad in a charge. I've seen the movie btw, but the rest of these comment critics know they are sitting on their "it's just a movie" cards just in case the logic starts to overwhelm them.
