(American Sailors Series, Part 1) Watch our video Americans Would Push The Entire Japanese Empire Toward Collapse (Ep.1) and "Dive into the heart of one of World War II's most daunting naval confrontations on October 25, 1944, when a vastly outnumbered group of American ships faced the might of the Japanese fleet. In this gripping series of 'WW2 Tales,' we explore the Battle off Samar, where Rear Admiral Clifton A. F. Sprague's Task Unit 77.4.3, known as 'Taffy 3,' heroically clashed with enemy battleships and cruisers. Discover the saga of the USS Hoel, USS Johnston, USS Samuel B. Roberts, and USS Gambier Bay-ships that valiantly fought and were lost, leaving their crews fighting for survival in the shark-infested waters. We also honor the USS St. Lo, whose fate was sealed by a kamikaze attack. Witness the extraordinary courage and resilience of the men who faced near-certain end yet fought to the last shell. Don't miss this incredible story of bravery and survival-subscribe now to catch each episode of our World War II series."

On a destroyer escort in Vietnam we were sent to the Middle East for the war in Israel. I got seasick pretty easily and everyone made fun of me. Leaving Taiwan we went straight into a hurricane. It was frightening as we went through 80-90 foot swells. I thought we were going to die..the only satisfaction I got during the 3 day storm was when we were at general quarters and shutting everything up to survive. I watched every hotshot that bragged about not getting seasick puked relentlessly and I didn’t!

1967? So what kind of duty did you have when you arrived there? That was "The Six Day War" if I'm recalling correctly, so I'm guessing you arrived after the shoot'n was over.

Nimitz was NEVER won over to Dugout Doug’s plan. He was simply the less egotist. Time would prove the pouting petulance when Little Douglass didn’t get his way. His incompetence cost thousands of Marines.

My Grand Dad was a old man among babies on his LST, and he made it to Tokyo Bay, and I have 2-IJN sake cups he picked up, along with his whites and Dress Blues. He went to Great Lakes, as my cousin Ritchie did in 67, instead of Army and Vietnam. I chose Army🤥

My father was a Navy Chief Commissary Steward aboard an LST bound for the Tarawa invasion. He was responsible for feeding some 1200 people on the long, slow trip to the invasion.

The ship first seen in this video is a Cleveland Class Light Cruiser: 10,000 tons, 33 knot speed, Twelve 6” guns, twelve 5” guns, numerous 40mm Bofors Anti Aircraft Batteries, plenty of 20mm guns. The most balanced light cruiser ever designed or built.

I have seen just this kind of empty comments HUNDREDS of times. It's tedious and boring. Pretty much any video invites some kind of intelligent remark. Why not do that rather than something completely empty? It's not unusual for people to make dumb comments. Heck, I make dumb comments often enough! But I'd appreciate you making the effort! And perhaps this is just an example of such a dumb comment....

2:20 -Japan had succeeded in landing sucker-punches on un-prepared opponents, and as sometimes happens in such circumstances, those throwing such punches assume they represent strength. They don't; the opponent was not KO'd. You are now in trouble. VERY bad trouble. 3:03 - THAT sort of trouble; surrender trouble if you had the sense. 5:18 - Even if the plan worked, what could BB's ammo do to an invasion force, especially with no direction? They had no fuel; they had to withdraw, so they could delay it by maybe a week? Like Pearl, this was both a tactical and strategic disaster. Japan denuded the rest of PI and Tiawan of airpower, and nothing came of it. The war was decided; it takes a Japanese desire for victimhood to make any claim to continuation at this point. And it continues to this day. 10:30 - Like Hirohito, FDR was revered by many in the US, including many who should have understood that he was (like Biden) a slobbering idiot who was circling the drain and known better. 12:25 - Pretty sure it was O'Brien ("How the War Was Won") who made clear that Mac's demand to take PI probably cost many, many thousands of Philippine lives; by-passing it would have saved those and the Allied lives. Mac could have profited greatly by an injection of 'humility'. 14:16 - And by now, torpedoes which exploded! 15:XX - The CEO of the non-profit needs to focus on Hamas who started the current war if he'd like support. Please tell us how you'd prevent future idiocy before asking for money.

12:25 Nope, Mac was right in retaking the Philippines, it wasn't some obscure island somewhere, it was a major part of the United States with a loyal population. I spent a lot of time in the Philippines in the 80s talking to WW2 Filipino vets, and I can say for a fact, that they were happy to see us retake the Philippines. My Filipino grandmother, who told me about her watching Japanese soldiers bayonet babies was happy to see us retake the Philippines also. Bypassing the Philippines would have been a total public relations disaster.

Philippines was indeed part of the US at the time. Definitely not going to bypass it, not for one day.

@blockmasterscott
@blockmasterscott 10 днів тому
@@joebombero1 Exactly this. And it wasn’t just a small part of the States, it was up on par with Alaska or Hawaii at the time. To put this in context, my Filipina grandmother loved Americans for the rest of her life after WW2, and her brother flew an American flag in front of his house until he died about ten years ago. Oh yeah, we definitely did the right thing in retaking the Philippines.
