An eventful Day in the Life of a Google Software Engineer (NYC Edition)

22 year old does coding, gym, dogs, ping pong, nightlife and more. Follow me through my day (and night) as a software engineer in New York City!
DISCLAIMER: While everything in this video did happen on the same day, I had to use alternate footage for a few things like ping pong, because I wasn't able to get permission from everyone that was in the original footage. Something cool though is that the fireworks were from the same night, and it wasn't even July 4th!
Also, this definitely wasn't a typical day, since on most weekdays I just go home after the gym.

Lived this life on my 20s and it was great. Now I'm 45 and long retired living outside of Boulder, Colorado with no one around for 4 to 5 miles in any direction. I love the peace and quiet now. Enjoy it, because the years go by fast.

I wouldn't mind a life like this at all. My current days consist of having a career crises cause I'm so unsure of what I want to do in tech but this fully swayed me. Hi Matt - thanks for sharing. Crazy question coming. About your Google office monitor setup. Are those shared desk spaces? Did I see 2ea USB-C cable connections coming from the desk monitors? You just occupy both of your devices ports on your MacBook to get 2 extended screens? My company looking for a way to satisfy the Windows and Mac users in shared spaces to get 2 extended screens without using a dock. Does this work well in your environment?

I'd say for school it doesn't matter much. The biggest thing is getting one that can output to more than one display, but even then you can work around it with certain docks. Def get a Mac tho. For work they will give you a laptop so focus on what you will be doing with your laptop outside of work.

as a controls engineer my days are also pretty similar to this except i wake up at 7am, get to work at 8am, stare at excel spreadsheets for 9 hours, go home, eat and then cry myself to sleep then repeat

I think I got fairly comfortable after spending ~3 months here. I still google maps 24/7 for train schedules, but now I know where the subway stations are without needing the map LOL For biking, I basically just try to memorize the next 2-3 steps of the directions but check google maps fairly often.
