had I still been a young, naive kid I would have said that Pirlo is my idol. But since I'm grown up enough to know that having idols is not normal I will just say that Pirlo is (probably) my all-time favorite Italian player... almost 50-50 split in likeness between him and Paolo Maldini. And it's definitely top 10 favorite players in the world for me. Also, I will never forget Gattuso's quote in an interview when he said "when I see what Andrea does with the ball I wonder if I am a footballer" :) ... Such an elegant, visionary and efficient player! I've lost a friendship in mid-2000s because of my fanatism with AC Milan, and for good reason: Pirlo, Kaka, Shevchenko, Inzaghi, Maldini, Nesta and Seedorf on the pitch at the same time has been nothing short of spectacular and awe-inspiring. Even the officials of Barca or Real Madrid (I don't remember which one) have facepalmed themselves when they've been drawn up against the mighty Milan of the 2000s in one of the UCL knock-out rounds. THAT good have AC Milan been back then, and part of the reason is Pirlo.... Good 'ol memories....

I doubt we wil everl see again a player like Pirlo. He was the last great playmaker from the ronantic era of football which is gone forever. Greatest thing about gim is not his passing skills and technique but his football mind. He sees the game in different way than other players and aniticapates the movements and the action. To impact the game like he did you you need to do the right pass to right teammate with the right timing. A lot of players can do 1-2 of these 3. But only the 3 together make a football genius.
